Stars & Stripes open face helmet.

Yep that is what I had.

One afternoon I saw Easy Rider and Wild in the Streets on a double bill. Easy Rider opened with Fonda and Hopper doing a coke deal with a chauffeured dude in a Rolls-Royce. That cat was convicted murderer Phil Specter of Wall of Sound fame......little Cliff Claven trivia for you.

Some cheapo open face was my first. Then to a green mi-90's shoei that I cannot find a picture of. But this troy lee was my all time favorite...she has a place on my wall now.

My first helmet in 1980 was a burgundy colored open faced helmet that the local dealer stocked, with one of those clear shields snapped over the front. After reading a couple issues of Dirt Bike and MXA, I realized I needed a visor and goggles. So then I got a silver, vented snap on visor and a pair of red and white Scott goggles!
The first real MX helmet that I personally purchased was a yellow Bell Moto 3 in 1982. My dealer even custom painted it for me! He taped off the bottom portion, painted it dark blue and then separated the two colors with a lighter blue tape stripe. That thing was sweet for 1982! Looked very similar to the helmet Marty Smith wore when he was with Suzuki!

Some plain white helmet, don't know the brand. It was for riding a ttr125 around the yard it had a thin plastic bolt on chin bar. Glad I never crashed in that thing because it wouldn't have stopped anything.
My first real moto helmet was a $100 fulmer.

White Bell Moto Star. That thing weighed probably 5lbs., but it was the epitome of cool in 1977 (for me, anyway).

Like many here, my first helmet was one of the cheapo metalflake "Captain America" helmets that I wore whilst beating the every loving hell out of a Honda CT-70 at a local track.

My first "real" helmet was a Bell Magnum open-face that I wore with a Hallman 5-snap peak visor and Scott goggles and facemask.

Back in 1985 I ran a Bell BMX3 as I ripped around on my XR80. I always wondered if my BMX3 was as good as my brothers Moto3 and if they were built differently or just branded for BMX instead of MX.

Bought it at a True Value hardware store in 1981. Decorated with a JT Racing sticker, electrical tape and stickers from a cereal box. I was so cool...lol.

Electro open face 1976

Got the Bell Moto full face the day it came out. I went down to check my race results on a Friday night Inian Dunes race, while my nice new helmet was sitting on the tailgate. When I got back, my 3 day old helmet and a brand new pair of Jones goggles were gone. I was only 13, but I was ready to fight the guy who stole my helmet. Fugging thieves SUCK !!

It was 1968, a hand me down Bell open face that I had to wear a stocking hat to make it fit.

Open face brain bucket from the local Yamaha dealership. My Dad had a no helmet no ride policy and if it was ever broken, the bike was to be sold. Went from that to Bell moto 3 then 4

The classic "Easy Rider" flag helmet mentioned above.
A white XXL garage sale find.
Then the Electro in my pic.

Open face Arctic Cat snowmobile helmet. It was black with a big green stripe going diagnolly across it. No visor but did have some cool metal flake paint that sparkled.

My first real helmet was a Bell Moto 4 with blue visor. I wore it off an on as I did not ride much when I was younger. So a few years ago I moved to Sacramento for a while and when I was not in the mountains riding and wanted to be on the bike for an hour or two, I would go ride at Praire City (local mc park) and my buddies or acquaintances that I used to ride would come buzzing over because I was the only cue ball out there because they recognized me and we would all hang out. Good times those times were, didn't need rest, just needed to get to the next riding spot.

I found these online, someone must've had them in their mancave.

If anyone is looking to sell their vintage helmets, let me know. I collect them and display them on a shelf at my place. I have around 60 of them so far.

My older sisters US ski team issue helmet just like the one Robert Redford is wearing in the movie Downhill Racer.

When I got into MX, I started with one of these puppies.. I had a Moto 3 near the end of my BMX days, apparently I thought these were cooler:

Open face Bell with an ironjaw, then a Moto III , then a Red Simpson exactly like the one pictured above... still have it too. Man the eps inside is like dust too!! A couple concussions in that old bad boy.

Counterfeit monster helmet. But don't ask where I got it. Snitches get stitches.
