I recently started a job that I have to wear my glasses more than usual and now it's tougher to see without them. I noticed yesterday I had a hard time seeing ruts clearly and different shades of the dirt threw me off.

Any issues riding with contacts?

I've been doing it for a few years, no real issues. If it's dusty I try to hydrate my eye with drops throughout the day. If you do get mud in your eye DO NOT RUB IT, or you will lose the contact.

I never could. I tried it several times and each time one or both would eventually blow out of my eyes. Yes, I wore goggles, but there was just enough air coming in to blow them out. Eventually I had LASIK and no longer have to deal with it.

Bob, how do you manage to keep yours in? Special goggles?

Maybe the secret is hard contacts? I always wore soft.

I hated my contacts for riding or snowboarding, could never get used to them for daily wear either. Got lasik & never looked back

My eyes are pretty messed up so hard contacts is all I coudl ever wear.

Goggle fit is everything. For me, the Scott Brand always worked well as did EKS brand. The best way to do this is to treat the goggle foam like it is an airfilter. Coat the outsideffo the foam with baby oil. Just a drop, and it will stop that fine dirt from entering.

I wore glasses for a long time and it is a terrible pain. I started doing contacts to ride about a year ago or so and it is 10 times better than dealing with glasses. I haven't had any issues yet.

I ride with contacts as well, having only one real issue that I can recall with a lens coming out on me. I carry a spare pair along with some drops just in case and haven't really had another problem. Like rcannon said, make sure your goggles fit well and do not let dust/dirt in.

I wear mine when riding and carry an extra set too.

One time on the starting line my contact folded in my eye just as the gate went down. I didn't even start that race, just went back to the truck and cried.

I also had the same thing happen while racing an enduro. The thing folded up just as our row took off. I raced back to the truck to put in another one and ended up starting about a minute late. I ended up winning my class that day anyway...

I hate contacts!

I don't think that's the answer, "hard/rigid lenses" at least it was not in my case.

I have worn contact lenses for 41 years (since I was 14) and up until the last 6 years ago, I was sporting the old school "hard" or "gas permeable" lenses.

Dust was always a problem, especially in a windy climate, which was a given riding in the desert! Just horrible.

My soft-daliy disposable lenses have been the best thing to ever happen for my sight, it's like I'm not wearing contacts at all.

I have never had them "pop" out from my eyes, with either soft or hard.

Wind, dust, dust and wind, bring it on.

Your personal experience may very well be different.

Take it from a guy who also works 12 hours a day in saw-dust (for the last 37 years), my "2 cents" may be much more valuable then just 2cents.

Hope this helps, good luck.

I told the story on here before, a friend of mine wore contacts to ride. He was blind without them. We were at a mud race one time. A horrible mud race where virtually everyone was tossing their goggles. Since he had contacts taking his off was not an option. I loaned him a set of goggles with roll offs. He had never used them before. He failed to clip the roll case shut properly. First pull of the string the whole roll popped out and was trailing behind him as a 25ft long streamer. He came into a tight hairpin corner. Just as he was grabbing a handful of throttle to exit the corner the rider behind him rolled on top of the streamer. The film went taut, jerked his head violently to the left and backwards and pulled him right off the bike. He never wanted to ride in mud again after that.

I only wear one. The other is a 'lazy eye' that is not correctable with glasses or contact lens.

I have the option for Lasik but want to try contacts first. I guess it won't hurt to try them.

Used contacts for 15 years, got Lasik around five years ago. Best decision ever and helped a ton with riding. Biggest problems with contacts was that sometimes in braking bumps they moved around and could not see clearly and drying in dusty conditions.

10000x better than glasses. No problems in ruts, super happy with contacts.

I pulled my goggles off once and found one of my contacts on my radiator shroud. that was the only problem I've ever had with Scott goggles. I use to really struggle with oakleys. I wear 30 day overnight contacts. I leave them in until they hurt then change them.

No issues here. Been riding with contacts most of my life and I'm 40. I always take a spare set (disposables) with me just in case but I've only had to use the spares once. I keep a bottle of solution in my truck as well just in case.

Thanks guys. Only down fall sounds like is I might have to switch goggle brands. My good friend works for Oakley so I stay pretty well hooked up.

I've been cursed with bad eyesight and have to wear hard/gas perms if I want to see anything. It's a major pain in the ass, especially on windy days when the dust kicks up. One tiny speck of dust under the lens and it feels like you have a large rock scraping against your cornea. A pair of goggles with a good airtight seal is the most important thing along with some re-wetting drops and a backup pair of contacts.

I have tried many times to use both hard and soft contacts while riding and could not make them work. The air flow in the goggles created a real bad case of dry eye. If cut off the air flow it made the goggles fog up even with a fog guard applied.

I have a condition where I have to wear RGP contacts.

It sounds like you are wearing small RGPS invest in some 12mm RGPs they suck on to the whites of your eyes and do not move, I even get away surfing with them on.

My biggest problem is forgetting to blink sometimes and my contacts dry out a little ha, but never had a problem besides that

hmm 12mm lenses and you requested them from your doc? I've been wearing RGP lenses for 20 years (Keratoconus) and have never had success with them staying in especially in water. I don't even bother to try to ride its unbearable with even the slightest of dust.

I actually started a thread about this too.

I have been wearing glasses since I was 7-8 and IM 33 now.

I have finally got sick of it with riding, tired of them fogging, cant see as good, sweat gets on them, etc. etc. I had tried contacts in past and could never wear them, raced SX overseas everything with glasses.

Well I am now trying contacts again and started with Dailies big NO for me on those I had foggy / blurred vision usually half the day or always theyd get clear for hour then cloudy again didn't matter how many time I blinked drops used, etc. so scratch those I still have some that Ill keep as some spares in case but they sucked plus had 2 fall out randomly too no reason this wasn't even riding.

Next ones I tried 2 weeks ago are Acuvue 2 week ones take out every night still and after 2 weeks throw out, these were much better from the get go much less bothering in my eye didn't get so dried out feeling could barely tell even there half time but still had on and off cloudiness etc. but way better then daily ones.

So they got me a pair of Air Optix 30 day and night ones that you can leave in for up to 30 days straight got those last Thursday and holy hell perfect vision not once did they get blurry or anything besides in middle of night or in morning maybe little and after 15 minutes blinking and stuff were fine again all day they told me to take out once a week or so till I went back in supposed to be this Friday well took them out after 5 days non stop wear and on cloud nine cause they were that great and ever since I took them out for a night they have been like the previous ones ok most time but cloudy here or there IM guessing from taking them out something got on them that solution even wasn't removing well anyway took them out last night cause bothering me and the one tore so there getting me another pair and I am going to leave this in and not take out at all for the full 30 days and see how they do but hopefully these are the ones to be perfect.

Well there is a book for you haha.

never raced on dirt but have rode since age 14 on dirt in some serious dust bowls for 26 years with soft contact lenses and never had a "real" issue. This was way back when a lost contact was $100.00.

Used to keep a bottle of saline in the truck and on long rides in my camelback just in case. Once the daily thing came about I kept a spare pair in my camelback in case I took a major digger and lost one.

I did road race for quite a few years with them in as well. Granted less wind/dust on the road with a full face closed windshield but still no issues.

Someone earlier mentioned the 12mm diameter rpg lenses, and they are amazing. You'll be angry at your dr for not mentioning them.
I've had them for many years.Regular sized lenses kept irritating my cornea transplant, so they went to this cartoonish large diameter.

They have to fit perfectly, but if they do, you'll forget you have lenses on. No more looking through the sides when you blink, either. No issues with dust, either. Its almost like the large diameter covers your eye. One thing to make sure of is have the system down for right to left. If you happen to stick one in the incorrect eye, it can be difficult to remove. They really stick!
