... Only beaten by skiing, swimming, and gymnastics.

The description for all of these looks to be some bot searching Wikipedia. I found this link on Facebook

I spoke to a guy who`s done a lot of them and he said skiing and being a passenger in a sidecar is the most difficult sports.
Distance skiing that is.

How in the hell swimming, no doubt physical for a short period of time, up to 10 minute races or Gymnastics where the athletes exerts themselves for a couple of minutes, can rank ahead of motoR cross?

Cross country skiing, maybe, i dont know, I can only moto for 2 laps anyways.

But swimming??????????????????

The author calling it motoR cross says it all.

How come on a forum where everyone is constantly complaining that everyone else underestimates how hard motocross is, so many of you display the same ignorance when judging other sports?
Swimming? Of course f*cking swimming! If you think otherwise you just haven't been involves in competitive swimming at any stage. Just 'cos the athletes make it look easy, doesn't make it easy.
So many more sports could be on that list, cycling and boxing are just two that spring to mind.

no sport is easy at the highest level.

Boxing, yep, brutal. Anyone who has done any crosstraining with boxing would know how farking hard that is.
Any professional sport is difficult and can't be compared against each other, otherwise all of us bozos would be champs!

always an unending debate on this so just some anecdotes

yes swimming sometimes goes for much longer and for most strokes you have to fully regulate your breathing and/or alter
your swim strokes, thats the hard part, you just cant breath in and out as quickly and as much as your body needs.

now i'm well represented, 2nd,3rd and 4th, (bit old to take up no 1)

skiing has always been my second sport to mx
even though i started skiing much earlier at 9 (my dad was into it) and mx not till 15,
was pretty good there for awhile

i grew up with a father who was a national swimming champ, and worked as a coach and swim school owner for most of his
life, so he was very determined to make me even better and i was heading that way....senior squads (16 and over)
when i was 11,problem was i hated it by 13, sooo boooring doing endless un exciting laps, brrrr
i stil shudder at that call and whislte....
"WARM UP 32 LAPS NOW!"
(i appreciated it much more now and can swim like a fish and have impeccable technique thanks dad.)

I did gymnastics a while back at a provincial level and my brother was in the pre Olympic training camp and I will say it is more difficult than moto but in different ways. It's not more physically demanding but is harder on the body for sure. Swimming.. Well I can't swim 5 laps but I can ride a 30 min moto so that says something. The article is pretty in line

My sister just recently completed her second half triathalon. Ask her how easy swimming is. It was only 1/2 mile, but damn, she says it was a bitch. She's also a certified P90X instructor and is friends with Mr. Horton.

I have never heard of this "motor cross", is it a blending of motors and religions?

Hard part about motocross is: make one mistake and you're on the ground. Same with allot of other sports.

Gymnastics is insane tho. I can ride a bike around a track, but i can't summersault trough the air like those chicks do.

Its not just a chick sport lol my mom put me in it when I was like 6 so I could be better at other sports because I would at least have the speed and flexibility.

Yes, swimming. I can believe that. My youngest son was on the high school swim team and he would have made the majority of pro motocrossers look overweight and out of shape.

yeah i know there's dudes in that sport as well. Just mentioned the chicks to point out that the females in that sport are serious business. It's not just a beauty contest, they do some real crazy shit with their body.

I can't even do this shit for 2 seconds

I'm not going to get into the difficulty argument. But I'm a big advocate for getting in gymnastics when they are young. I think it helps in all sports because it gives kids a head start on learning how to manipulate their body in space.

I did a short triathlon once a few years ago for a big corporate competition here in Kansas City. I though 1/3 mile swim no big deal I'm a pretty good swimmer. I about drowned I swear, about the time I was getting passed by old ladies in the group behind me I realized I had under estimated it. It took me a full lap on the bike before I worked out how much water I had swallowed. It was awful. Swimming in open water is pretty dang hard. It's still no moto though.

one thing that list doesn't mention is Balls, yes gymnastics, swimming, and skiing may be harder or just as hard but minus any real danger, you screw up on a moto track and its lights out/ hospital time

Not one of those sports requires an ambulance to be on site before a competition starts

While swimming in open water might be difficult to a novice...the "getting passed by old ladies" says all there needs to be said about swimming.

Anybody can train a month or so and swim....I'd like to see those old ladies get on a SX track for a month....

I think this list was about the top echelon of each sport, not the weekend warriors. The top gymnasts, swimmers and skiers are definitely just as fit (or even more fit) as the top moto riders.

I would put bull riding right behind moto. Even though it's only 8 seconds, I would never get on top of one of those gigantic bulls to try and ride them. Not taking anything away from the top ice skaters (ice f'n hurts when you fall, let alone trying to throw someone in the air), but the variability of riding a huge creature with a mind of its own seems harder in my book.

Motocross would be higher up on the list. What is Motor Cross?

The hard about this argument (and will never change) is that people don't even agree on what the definition of an athlete or a sport is. If there is no absolute definition, how can you compare them? I've said it before and i'll say it again...throwing a ball of any sorts to most pro racers and then watching just how awkward they are running to catch it and then throw it, is just about as funny as watching a top stick and ball player get on a motorcycle and whiskey throttle right off the bat. All sports have their own difficulties and traits that make them individually difficult.

And all this time I always thought RUGBY would of been #1 on anyone's list......what the hell? That's supposed to be the most brutal sport out there. And it didn't even make the list?

Horse back riding made it......and Rugby didn't?

I don't agree with some of the sports on there.

True story! My 8 year old was throwing a football with 2 kids (both LL's winners), it looked like the three stooges! Their Dad's and I chuckled as they were being battered by that ball! "Hands in front of your faces!"
