Mike LaRocco because he never stopped charging from start to finish. While the rest of the pack would be slowing down towards the end, he'd be getting faster. The longer the race, the more a factor he was.

Dude was just a bad mother. Always had the sick gear like the barbed wire Fox stuff but when he switched to AXO and rocked the new Shoei VFX he was just next level. Fuck with Damon and you found yourself in the cheap seats! Was so much faster than the competition in the 1992 SX season, it's a crime he couldn't close the deal. If he had won that title and got the monkey off his back, I think the record books would be allot diff

Roger DeCoster. Beautiful style, ferocious competitor, and dedicated his life to moto.

James Stewart. I've honestly never seen anyone who can do the things he does on a motorcycle and also do it with style. I think he's the most naturally gifted rider in history.

Of all the attributes RC had, the most often overlooked was his ability to find new, cleaner lines. RC saw all the different lines possible on the track before they wore in. One of a kind.
Wholly agree, Ricky's race craft and line selection, NEVER gets talked about but he did a lot of stuff perfect, he just also happened to get sideways more than most

Trampas Parker He took a chance, went to Europe and won the 125 and 250 world championships. Almost won the 500cc series also.

He was just the smoothest, most perfect rider ever. Look at any picture of him and he is always in the perfect position on the bike and there is no denying that with 7 AMA titles and quite a few close 2nds, he is a superstar in motocross.

Hannah is my close second...not sure why, because he is without a doubt the most naturally talented rider ever. Coming from riding at home in the desert without anybody to push him, to dominating the moto word within 3 years...nobody else could ever do that!

Broke his back multiple times, always came back. Broke both wrists and came back. Revolutionized the sport as we know it on the YZM400. First rider to win on a four stroke in the modern era, both indoors and outdoors. Won championships on two and four strokes. The list goes on and on. Growing up this guy was my hero. He was the anchor at team yamaha after emig left for kawasaki, along with John Dowd, Ezra lusk, and a new kid by the name of Kevin Windham. The mid to late 90's were absolutely superb.

Thanks, I was there in 79 . In 79 he won the first moto, and then faded and pulled off in the second moto if I recall. Tripes was supremely talented but plagued by his love of food I thinkWink . Hannah won the second moto after battling Howerton but they tied on score with 3/1 and 2/2 and Howerton got the win because the FIM used overall time to settle ties and not second moto scores. It sucked! (I was Hurricane fan...lol). Notice Tripes is wearing the Scott boots in the picture and also look at the crowd 3 and 4 rows deep at the fence. Also 79 is the year that the classic Hannah gravity cavity shot came from.

Jeff Ward. His riding credentials are tough to beat. I started riding Kawasaki's when I was a kid and he was the fastest Kawasaki rider at the time. To this day the riders I cheer for are similar: they ride clean and are respected by their peers on and off the track.
My favorite rider today would be a toss up between Wil Hahn and Marvin Musquin.

Roger DeCoster has always been my hero. Nobody even comes close. He had style like no other, and always had the coolest gear sets too. He will always be "The Man", at least to me.

He was always the epitome of Euro-Cool and he answered every stupid question I asked him when I met him at a Trans-AM round at Rio Bravo (1972...I was 13) with calmness & humor. He never came off as a big shot. Really a very cool guy.

Jeff Ward through the 80s and 90s

Became a big Henry fan after that. Recently met him at a wounded warrior benefit we had. Super cool dude. Still fast as hell too!

Windham came into the picture for me after that.

Nw, I would have to say Eli Tomac. Just a super cool and stand up kid. He and I talk on twitter occasionally about bow hunting. Just a cool kid.

I am still a big fan of all these guys too.
