Unless someone has asked this before, I think it could be a fun topic...

Who is the baddest rider to ever pass you on the track? Practice, race time... just not on MX/ATV Unleashed...

Mine? Larocco... Winter Series race way back ('89 maybe) during practice... I was a C rider but was jumping what used to be a double coming out of the gator pit... He blew by me coming out of the right to left after the jump... He was gone before we got the that big sweeper... I knew right then that I would never be pro...

Shit just go ride glen helen on any thurs before the nats and you get passed by the top 10 in each class.

Yeah, thats true... but I didn't grow up racing out here... Not very often did we get to see top pros out in the southeast back in late 80's early 90's... You guys are freakin' spoiled.

BTW looks like you're from southern CA what track has a Gator Pit? I've yet to encounter it.

Back in 93 at Mammoth on one of the practice days I looked over in a corner and Damon Huffman went blasting around the outside of me then the next corner it was Lamson lol

The gator pit is in Gainesville Florida.

Travis Preston at Competitive Edge about 2 months ago. First pro ive been on the track with. Heard him pinned coming up from behind but on top of a blind downhill, saw him for a split second and he was gone

Dick Mann. I managed to find myself on the same track with him during a practice session at a local MX race in Norcal. I heard him coming up behind me on his TT500 and knew it was him, as he was the only racer on a 4 stroke at the time. I was going to try and stay with him and gassed it, but he blew past me like I was standing still and was literally gone before I could blink an eye. I was flabbergasted at how fast the "old guy" was. This was the first time I had ever been on the same track with an actual Pro rider and realized right then just how fast these guys really are. There were probably other incidents with others over the years, but this one really stands out in my mind. Mann is/was a Legend of the highest order.

I was one of the last to leave the line for my amateur day practice at Washougal one year. I had picked a few guys off, but wasn't exactly tearing through the pack and was still way back.

All of a sudden I hear this bike just screaming coming up behind me and I start to think to myself, shoot it's only the second lap of practice the leaders couldn't possibly be coming up to lap me. I'm not that bloody slow...

...then Ezra Lusk rails around the outside of me and proved that yes, yes I was that slow.

The worst part was I thought to myself, just try and stick with him for a few corners and see how fast these guys really are. By the third corner I had one of those "what the fuck do you think you're trying to do moments" and backed off before I killed myself.

Donavan Mitchell and Tallon Vohland...both passed me at Hangtown. I was smoking them by a 1/2 track length when I jumped on the track. But I believe their factory bikes were just faster than my modified stocker.

On the Pro line (my first) at Corona Raceway, 1978...I got the holeshot !


Was quickly passed by Danny "MaGoo" Chandler, Rex Staten, Rich Eirstedt, and a host of others. I ended up beating one guy...I think he was carrying his bike.

Got passed by McGrath, at the last Christmas GP at Carlsbad. He was on a CR250, I was on a CRF450...I ran with him down the straight, a few turns later, he was out of sight.

RC4 on a backroad in Tallahassee in his pickup. His Gramps was in the passenger seat and his101 MXoN Suzuki from France was in the back. I laughed at that picture. I still couldn't keep up.

Doug Henry in 94' at the Budds Creek National in practice.
I lined up next to Mike Brown on the start of the qualifier and never saw him again either.
