Yeah he was one of the first to do this, I found this photo in my 1981 Saddleback photo stash, from Howerton's bike. He was an innovator to be sure.

The damn thing is still bent! If you spin the back wheel the front sprocket does this nasty little dance due to a bent countershaft coming out of the tranny. That's how it was when it came down to the championship winning race. Can you imagine Roczen, Dungey, Villo or Stewart heading to the line with a bent countershaft these days?
