There's so much talk about this little situation but come on guys my dad asked for a few of his rules to be acknowledged and the guy couldn't. If he couldn't agree to meeting my dad at 5 to go over what he was going to try and bring up in the interview then he shouldn't be aloud to come walking into the pits like he owns the place. We have had enough problems with Mathes to know you have to cover yourself or else he will more then likely use every word against you and cause more of a headache then it's worth. If someone feels they don't like the conditions of communicating information with another person they have the right to go on and keep it to themself and I can assure you if this interview was with someone professional he wouldn't mind talking to them. It's just professionalism and mike was looking out for himself.
Or could it be that the team had a off weekend and the moto concepts team manager was loosing his mind because I'm guessing that you guys expected to come up and clean house and take the title home with all smiles. It's embarrassing for the team and riders and people associated with the team manager. The Alessi legacy is going to be one of the poorest in history of mx filled with black clouds and negativity.

Steve "reported" it on Twitter. Thats about the level it deserves. He didnt write a column about it or interview other teams that witnessed the tet a ta. Just Twitter.

And really, what this is is more evidence to those that have dealt with Tony over years to verify that hes an odd duck at best and certainly difficult to deal with.

This whole deal amuses me. And this thread gave JT$ to opportunity to once again use the term "paddock"Smile

Matthes is my favorite journalist to read and PulpMX is great to listen to. He just tells it like it is. To say he dislikes MA800 or has it in for him, OR Tony, just doesn't make sense. He has helped him, been nice to him and given that team the benefit of the doubt and a platform to right their sinking ship on more then 1 occasion. If they take that platform and spout crazy-ass shit and give PulpMX hilarious sound-drops that's their own fault. If people don't like Matthes' journalistic reporting that's fine but don't say that everybody else thinks the same. As for JT$ and the entire PulpMX crew for that matter.....week in and week out, those guys come off as fair, balanced, knowledgeable and entertaining!!!!!!!!!! Just sayin.

To all you blokes saying he should have just dealt with Tony Alessi in person, I refer you to the old quote - "Never argue with an idiot. They will just drag you down to their level and beat you with their experience."

Still trying to understand why Matthes would travel to see Alessi. Is the Canadian National scene something Steve enjoys reporting on and has done it in past years? If not, was he there to print a positive viewpoint of Alessi's Team? If not, he was there just to fuck around and Tony saw thru the bull shit.

I'm Canadian, I go to a race or two almost every year. Because I enjoy it, it costs me money out of my pocket to go but I usually enjoy it. This trip, because of the horrendous conditions, not so much.

Steve, I pay money out of my pocket too. Track conditions up there did look bad. I guess I just don't twitter because someone tells me to go fuck myself. Tony's hand written "contract" appears that it is targeted towards you. Maybe you didn't take it that way. I don't know if I would have been "shocked" by his comments towards you. You won the war when you kept the piece of paper and I would have kept it too. If your goal was to additionally embarrass him I am sure this goal was reached too. I believe the Alessi's are racing the Canadian Nationals to avoid bad publicity and writing stories about the actions of Tony is good fodder. Maybe Tony deserves this negative publicity. Maybe it didn't need to be reported at all. That's your right. Unfortunately, it also falls on Mike Alessi.....Putting your incident with Tony aside, how was Mike riding considering the conditions?
I see it as tony instigating mathes with a chicken scratch amateur looking contract to push steves buttons.why else would he yell out "your not protected here" or something to that affect.
its tony.
would or has mike ever said to any reporter including steve,"as long as my dad said its ok,i can give you an interview".
vf got fucked out an interview.thank you puppet master tony.

Wow, TA and Matthes/Mathis/??? continue to deliver.

If I was Matthes, I would have asked to keep the contract to have my attorney go over it and reply at a later date. This is where Matthes messed up. He should have explained that if he couldn't review it with an attorney, he wouldn't sign it and he wouldn't interview his riders anymore, thus not promote their product/image.

Mr Genova - you should think real hard about continuing your relationship with Tony Alessi. If you indeed went to Canada to sell your Smartop product, Tony Alessi isn't a face/image I'd want trying to sell it. He continues to act inappropriately over and over again. Fire the guy and move on. See if you can sweet talk DV12 back into managing the team.

.....Mattlthes is indeed pretty universally disliked in the pits.

Tony comes off as a idiot for vocalizing it, but the truth is he ain't saying anything most in pits dont agree with.

Lame post

What is your basis for "Universally disliked in the pits"
Are you a bro-friend to someone that is upset with Matthes

If a little bit you say is true, well then he is doing his job
Imo he is the best we got when it comes to moto

It amazes me that Mike Genova continues to hitch his wagon to Tony Alessi. In my opinion he does nothing but bring bad press to the team and their rider (Mike). Since Matthes writes for the biggest mag. in the sport and has his own renowned weekly pod cast and web site you would think you would try to be on his good side. Every time there is one of these "Tony Alessi Moments" it does nothing but tarnish Moto Concepts image even more. If I were Genova I would get rid of Tony and keep him away from the M.C. pits. Then hire the best P.R. guy you can find to try and repair your teams image asap. Tony has clearly effected Mikes marketability and is doing the same to Moto Concepts. Wonder why your team is looked down on and cant seem to get factory support?? This sport is a daily battle of good results and getting the best press possible. Tony seems to be oblivious to the latter...

MotoConcepts has been calling their bikes MC450's for much longer than Tony had a say in anything, hence no factory willing to throw their hat in the ring. my guess is that Tony isn't the only one responsible for any bad rep that team has.

This "story" is exactly what twitter was invented for. Instant exposure of a real life event. This event is not article worthy even if it was an online article it would be a waste of space but its documentation on twitter is absolutley apropriate.

Steve was presented with a bullshit contract and he had one of those "you gotta be F'n kidding me" moments we all love to tell the story about. Steve had twitter to tell the story instantly. His name wasnt even spelled correctly!!! Good for him for taking the opporitunity.

I could see presenting a contract to steve regarding interviews if i were MCR because of their history, but their approach was idiotic.

I support Steve in this, hes not my favorite person in the world but i enjoy his work as well as the whole pulpmx and RacerX crew.

Just a question, has anyone here actually bought anything from Motoconcepts? Did anyone buy a hot tub cover because Mike is on that team?

Just curious.

I can tell you that after tony and genova were on the pulpmx show and went into that tirade, I have purposefully NOT bought motoconcepts products and stuck to other brands. It is unfortunate because I like Mike and would love to support his cause, but I just can't bring myself to support that team.

Edit: grammar

Well said. I myself would never buy from MC for the same reasons. Plenty of other suppliers that aren't nuts.

Dear someone in the Alessi family or Motoconcepts, That's exactly what I did. I laughed, realized he was serious, said I wasn't signing the "contract" and proceeded to walk away. End of story...EXCEPT Tony asked for the contract back (and again, shouldn't I get to keep a copy of this underhanded attempt to control media? Why was there something in there that said I couldn't tell anyone I signed this? Pretty shady no?) and I said I would have to look it over and walked away.

And that is when he exploded, calling me a mother fucker, saying I'm not "protected" in Canada, asking me if I wanted to "go", some more Mother fuckers, telling me that no one likes me, etc etc. And he was yelling all this.

Once presented with the terms, I refused and walked away with my "contract" to review...then he, once again, became very unprofessional and an incredible asshole. This is on him. I posted it, (like I said in the other post) because when people are bullies and a-holes, they need to be called out on it. Maybe next time, he thinks a little bit harder.

You can try and defend yourself all you want. Be a man and stand up to Tonys childish outburst and tell him what you think of his paper to his face....or are you intimidated by a profanity spewing guy that may top out at 5' 4" if he's wearing fuck me pumps? Running off like a little butthurt baby and tweeting this bullshit makes you no better than the guy you were trying to make a fool of. Until you opened your gossiping mouth to the internet masses the only people that would have known about this are you and Tony. It's up to you to show who the adult was in this childish situation and you failed. Like I said before, if this took place between Tony and DC I can guarantee you it would have never made twitter. Act your age, be professional, and maybe you will get a few more followers other than the drama desiring kids that listen to you now

Poor comparison with DC. He is a series promoter/organiser, of course he's not going to run to twitter or anywhere else.

Matthes is a reporter, he reports on MX news and events.
Let us know when he makes a report on actual MX news or events.

Cause this ain't it.

Riling Tony up for page clicks is exactly what KennyT is saying it is. Its not news. Its going after low hanging fruit.

Any formal training in journalism would tell you that objectivity is priority uno. Lose that and ur not a journalist anymore. Matthews has shown time and time again his penchant for agendas with riders. How anyone can take it seriously is beyond me.

But that is how low the bar is set in this sport. If any of this sports media actually dug deep and reported its dark secrets then they'd be shunned, likely fired, and most likely bashed by most fans for spitting the truth. Ultimately we as fans are to blame. We dont want the truth. And so this TMZ type bullshit is instead considered "insider info".

You know some people have so much money that they can piss it away traveling the world with semi trucks and MX riders. Just a guess, but I have a feeling that Genova could give a rats ass if he ever sells a hot tub cover to the "Moto market"

It is such a minute fraction of their sales that I would guess no amount of Tonys antics will affect how Genova lives.

In regards to cycle parts. The only people that have any idea what has gone on with Alessi are the hardcore fans. I probably have 50 acquaintances that r into Moto.....maybe one or two of them heard of this latest Tony tirade. Pulp show, message boards etc...the majority of parts/bike sale customers have no idea these places exist

It's pretty obvious Genova does not let the TMZ drama affect his decisions, because it has zero effect on his bottom line. He probably sits at home laughing at this crap just like I do

Following this logic, it makes one wonder about the marketing benefit of owning a race team.
