What amazes me more than this incident is
How stupid is mike Genova , to keep allowing these things to happen .
Just kick tony to the curb

The thing everyone is missing in this "saga" is that both mike and Jeff have talent (jeff untapped I think) yet both have had their chances ruined by tony and his antics , antics which have held both back & caused negative light to be cast on them.
all I can say is "cut the cord & go youre own way" this is unless tony has both under some top secret binding contact .

You're telling me you would let someone get in your face, insult you, make threats, disrespect you and your work and you wouldn't put it out there? Especially given the dynamic here where he is reporting on a team/race and one of the participants goes off like this and has done so in the past, all without any justification. Matthes is a very patient guy cuz if TA did that to me, he would be in the Asterisk Medical unit wondering where his teeth went. Why not report it, TA has no problem making a huge scene in front of Matthes' peers on multiple occassions even, do you expect him to smile and say thank you? FYI, Matthes didnt start any "bashing thread" and he does his share to help out Mike Alessi and even his team, what exactly have you done?

And anyone referring this this 1st grade hand written note as a "contract" is a complete fucking moron.
Exactly.

Kenny T and Whiskeythrottlejunkie- you two are complete fucking morons. Even Bobby M is smart enough to not be running his mouth but you two idiots keep making yourselves look dumber and dumber.

How Jeff Alessi thinks he has any credibility after his laser gate incident and then threatening to "elbow" steve's face/throat is hilarious

Tony wanted Steve to "submit in writing 3 statements on how he plans on upgrading MCR racers, team, and/or series" lol. Wow

Who is Mathis? How can anyone call this a legal document when one of the parties involved has their name clearly spelt wrong? Does Steve sign Mathis or Matthes? lol

The Alessi's will never learn. I thought after laser gate everything would mellow out, but no, Tony goes ahead and does his "drug ring" tirade. Eventually everything mellowed down. Then Mike "accidentally" torpedoes Tickle. Then finally we have this gem. The Tedesco kill switch thing was completely ridiculous as well, but at least Mike was a teenager back then.

I agree with you guys that Mike Alessi needs to get rid of his dad, but it will never happen. I don't know if he would be any faster, but at least there would be less incidents to distract him. All the talk of him winning a championship here in the US if he gets out from underneath his dad is complete BS though. Mike Alessi will never win a MX or SX championship in the US.

Mike Genova needs to wake up and realize that having the Alessi's is not good for his team. At the very least get rid of Tony and I hope Genova is smart enough to have permanently cut Jeff's official ties with the team. Keep Mike Alessi as a rider if you want, but please get rid of Tony. That guy is only bad news. If it was me I'd cut all ties with team Alessi, but it's not my team so it doesn't really matter but damn, when is it gonna be enough.

Sure maybe Matthes (or Mathis) didn't need to go and tweet the picture of the contract, but like a previous dude said, that is Steve's only proof and if he didn't take a picture of it, Tony and the rest of the crew could have tried to spin this story anyway they wanted. Steve was covering his own ass. I think Steve does a good job and should not be criticized for reporting the facts. That's what reporters do. Like another previous poster stated- Steve has let Mike Alessi and Genova both come on pulp MX to voice their side of some of these incidents even after Jeff physically threatened him. While I don't think Steve is Tony's biggest fan, I doubt he spends his days planning ways to embarrass Tony, Mike, Jeff, or the MCR team. They do a fine job of that on their own. I really hope Mike Genova makes a change.

After most of these posts, I can't help but to think this is a redo the the Britney Spears meltdown. Think about it for a minute, if you are going to behave outside the norm, and you're a high profile individual, then people like the paparazzi are going to hound you until the drama stops. If MCR wants the negative attention to stop, then they need to fly straight, stay within the confines of normalcy, behave like any other professional team, and let the results speak for themselves. Don't feed the press what they are looking for.
If Mike was asked "Why do you think you were lapped in that race by the top three riders?" He could simply answered "Today I wasn't on it and I simply got beat by better mud riders, Why do you think 39 other riders got lapped by RC in the big mud race in '02 (or '04). If I had the answer to that question, it wouldn't have happened, but it did so here we are. Next question."

LMAO! IMO......all you people that are "insiders" to the sport in any way shape or form all know each other to well!!
It seems like there is a big lack of respect of each other and personal space.

Honestly I think both parties could have handled everything better (more professionally) by not being so much on the defense and "expecting" things to go bad before they even start talking to one another.

If it had been me, the second Tony showed his ass and handed me that piece of paper I would have handed it back and said "have a nice day" and walked away.

HOWEVER.......Im NOT in that position and really dont mind having big drama to read over morning coffee!Laughing

Tony is as professional a team manager as Steve is a professional journalist. I can't imagine an NFL coach handing an ESPN journalist a contract like this and I can imagine an ESPN journalist grabbing it and running away yelling ooh I'm going to tweet this.

For all of you that say Matthes shouldn't have posted this, a journalist has one job and that job is to drum up business (readers or listeners).
Mission Accomplished!
If Tony didn't want to be in the spotlight he should have stayed in the hauler.

The only thing I want to say about this is I see several people in this thread bagging on the contract because of the handwriting and I think it is actually very nice handwriting. Except for the "R's" it's much nicer than my handwriting, so I want you guys to know that you hurt my feelings, jerks!

It's comical how people still find excuses and stick up for the biggest jerkoff family in the sport. . Yep it's everyone else fault

As a follower of plenty of sports outside of moto, I could absolutely see that happening if an nfl coach did that. The difference is, the coach wouldn't do that, because other sports have figured out to employ a PR person for this type of stuff, not some hot head dad of one of its players

8 pages of discussion on this. I think Steve achieved his goal with this. Journalist want people talking about what they wrote or the news they delivered. Even if people disagree with his method in reporting the news, or if it should have been reported at all, it has created discussion. That is the goal right?

Exactly. The team would be doing major PR to fix the mess of what the coach did.

I guess people don't pay attention to the reporters that blast coaches these days for their behavior in press conferences. Coaches know how to play the game. Tony doesn't.

Here's the deal, I have not spoken to Tony since Washougal last year after he lost it and never apologized to me. He was WAY out of line there but whatever, he doesn't need me and I don't need him. However I have interviewed Mike under the tent at a couple of SX's this year, had him on the Pulp show a few times (including Tickle-gate when Mike G asked to come on) & had Mike on the show 3 weeks ago in a positive conversation about how he likes Canada.

Today I was just doing my thing, interviewing riders about their race when I went to talk to Vince & Mike about their day. I record these interviews and put them straight up on Pulp. I saw Vince, asked him for an interview and he said sure if Tony lets him. I was confused because I hadn't needed Tony's "clearance" for Mike at the 2-3 SX's this year. But whatever...

Then Tony presents me with these terms and conditions that truthfully, are a joke. I would never agree to have Genova read anything before it prints, I would never "hide" a document I signed from the public, I would not ask for permission to enter a teams pits. I would just not bother...but I have talked to Mike or Cunningham under their tent. Keep in mind, I haven't done anything to the family but report on what they have done and offered up an opinion here or there on what/why the reasons Mike's career hasn't been as successful as many people thought. Also keep in mind some people in my shoes would NEVER EVER talk to Mike Alessi or Genova ever again...not only do I talk to them, I have helped out MIke with goggle stuff he's needed because I like Mike--I think at the end of the day he does some weird things but he's a nice guy.

Anyways, when I finished laughing and asked Tony if he was serious...and he was, I said I would have to look at this more. Keep in mind he gave it to me. Generally speaking any contracts that are agreed to by any two parties HAS TWO COPIES. So I figured this one was mine? Then I said that I'm not interviewing his riders and he lost it saying I had to give him the contract back.

He followed me out of his tent calling me a "mother fucker", said I'm not protected in Canada, that no one likes me in Canada or in the USA, that I think I'm some big guy and if I wanted to "go"...I'm telling him to go away and he just screwed himself and Genova out of any press and a possible magazine feature on how the team is enjoying the outdoors. The Leading Edge Kawasaki owner had to tell him to step outside the LE tent because it was "Washougal 2013" all over. He kept yelling that all I was there for was to talk shit on his riders and the series (huh? I'm Canadian and spend my own money to go to a race every year...any other USA media guy do that?) blah blah blah.

Here's how it could have gone-

A--Me walking in to tent and interviewing Vince and Mike on their days and I walk away and post their interviews.

B- Me trying to talk to Vince or Mike and them saying they couldn't talk to me on Tony's orders and I walk away.

C- Tony says you can't interview riders w/o signing this contract, here's your copy, I refuse and walk away.

D- Tony says I have to agree to these terms but can't tell anyone about our "deal", I refuse, keep the contract and he calls me a mother fucker and yells and screams and embarrasses himself and his team yet again.

Remember Rex Ryan's video leak about the foot fetish? Now that was news!

Sorry to piss you all off , just thought it was kinda childish the way it was handled. Would have preferred a brawl in the pits between the 2 and hope to god someone got it on video.

Next time leave the "I'm telling on you " Tweet to something a little more newsworthy. I know it's hard to do in the land of social media but it would be nice if the sport does not sink into this national enquirer bullshit. If this had happened between DC and Tony nobody would have never heard about it, someone with class like DC would have NEVER resorted to twitter to cry about it

It's hilarious that you want the media to sign a contract saying that your team has final say over editorial..it's amazing you would think this was cool but then the provision where the media guy can't tell anyone he signed it? Let's just humor that and say that this was somehow normal...you don't have a second copy for the media guy to take for his records?

If you're trying to be sneaky and underhanded by not giving someone a copy of what they sign AND you're trying to say that said person can't tell anyone about what they signed--well, in my opinion, you deserve to get called out for all the world to see.

More people should call out complete bullshit when it happens...maybe then there would be less bullshit in the world?
The bullshit didn't exist until you showed up. I do however admire your ability to create work for yourself...

He was yelling that I'm not protected up there, I'm a piece of shit, no one likes me down in USA or now in Canada & I'm just there to...

And every other name under the sun. Then Leading Edge Kawi owner had to tell him to leave their tent as he chased me over there..

Steve Matthes ‏@pulpmx · 10m
To talk shit on his team & the series itself. That's all I'm there for. I asked him if he knew I spent my own money to be there & I'm cdn!

Steve Matthes ‏@pulpmx · 8m
Then I asked Politelli & J Medag if they liked me & they were laughing. All I wanted to do was ask VF & Mike about their race that day &..

Steve Matthes ‏@pulpmx · 7m
We at RXI had talked about doing a feature on how MCR is doing in their cdn adventure but he can kiss that bye bye now- guy was absolute...
