Hopefully the forks haven't been cranked down since 03 like thatDizzy That sub frame looks liek the new Yamaha's!

I remember reading the shoot out on this against the other bikes. Didn't it actually do pretty good? It would be cool to have in the collection, if I had oneGrinning

Motorcycle USA had it in a shootout I think. They said it wasn't up to par with the other bikes. 280 lbs. and 43 hp.

Pretty cool and sad.

They're pretty cheap on the used market, so once you cut those straps....

Bad mapping for the FI , would not idle or it would idle so high that you could ride a lap without turning the throttle. Heavy slow etc etc and it put a great bicycle company out of business.

A few showed up the at some off-road races.......never saw one finish!

I saw Robbie Reynard smoke the entire field at the 4-Stroke Nationals on that bike, and he told me it was the best handing bike he had ever ridden.

In all fairness. Robbie could probably have done that on a 2000 xr 250......Smile I kid , i kid. (Not really...)

Consensus was it was a steaming pile of shit. Barely rideable and who supplies the parts for ii? A museum piece but that is about it.

I'd love to have that thing but can't justify spending the money on it. I'd want to ride it and I doubt parts are easy to come by.

A friend-of-a-friend here in UT had one - we conversed through email a few times about meeting up to ride at some point. He proceeded to tell me he had an ATK (Cannondale) and went on and on about how much it is ahead of the curve, ahead of the times, great bike, start of the art...you name it. He thought it was stellar.

Based on that, I never met up to ride with him; I wanted to make it back.

A good buddy of mine rode one when they were new; he likened it to riding a John Deere tractor.

Speaking of museum, I believe the Moto Armory has one in the collection.

No one would/should pay that price for a bike to actually ride, you could get a used anything that is miles better for half the money.

The only real value to that thing is a museum piece or a garage queen.

It was better than a xr400 but the yz426 stomped it. I rode one once. .....and that was enough.

Wow, that is Rare. I see CR's still in crate from time to time. I was expecting to see something along those lines. For once the ad is correct on Craigslist. That is a rarity.

I rode a friends for a few laps. It had major engine braking and the engine sounded like someone threw a can of nuts and bolts in a dryer. It had 2 or 3? air filters and was just plain weird. Looked weird, handled weird, and was weird to work on, Other than that it was pretty cool. Laughing

That bike in that same exact position with the forks compressed looks exactly like the bikes in MX v. ATV Alive and the new one coming out. Pinch

My uncle left one at the house for a couple months and I rode it a bit. Heavy and slow, really abrupt power off idle. Sometimes wouldn't start and would eat the battery trying to get it fired up. Front to back balance was OK just hard to get turned around because of how heavy it was. Ohlins suspension seemed decent. Always seemed to have some issue or another and never a day where it just ran without any annoyance

My friend had a quad with same engine. Fauled spark lug all the time. Engine sounded like it was going t throw a rod at any minute! Thing did have a lot of power for its time.

These are not all that rare around Salt Lake City. Apparently, ATK can actually make these work, and you do see them. I know what you'r saying, though, with that oen still in the crate.

Atk has some cool bikes, though, and the peopel who work there are cool. With my last name of Cannon, I should have one.

There was a guy riding one of these just last Wednesday out at Oak Hill MX here in TX. He pitted next to me and his son was on a CRF.
I talked to him about it, he said he had it for about 2 months. Just put some money into the Ohlins suspension. He said it is a heavy bike, but the handling wasn't too bad. He also told me it has dual fuel injectors, and he had that gone through by someone to tune or program them. I believe this was only his 2nd ride on it.
I did look it over pretty good, because thats the first one I've ever seen at a track up close.

The factory was local to us in PA. The test riders would show up at our local races with the prototypes and pre-pro's in 2000-2002 timeframe and run against us in 250A, Vet-A, etc. Saw them push them off the track with mechanical DNF's many times. I believe it was mostly electrical probs. Shame they didn't take off. it would be cool to have a legitimate US bike to choose.

Also, explain the "killed the bicycle company" thing? I still see lots of people riding Cannondale bicycles. I rented one on a trip just a few weeks ago. Is it basically just the name sold out to the Chinese now or what?

I raced for Cannondale in 2003 and yes it was heavy and yes it was slow but after I put 20mm offset Honda clamps on it and a prototype Bill's Pipe on it and got some new maps from Cannondale for it the bike was much faster and actually handled very well.

A holeshot at the first race of the yr in 03 at Southwick in the 40A class. People were very surprised at how fast it was.

Cannondale went bankrupt shortly after their motorscooter endeavor. The name/assets got bought up. It's too bad they didn't give it more development time, there was a lot of hype about the bike. I remember Dirt Rider declared it bike of the year or something before they even hit production.

They were supposedly nearly impossible to start when hot, and were electric start only. Not the best way to showcase your new product, being pushed off the track with a dead battery in front of the whole industry.

FGR-

Money sunk into the failed MC project took the company to bankruptcy. They shut down the MC operation, sold off the inventory and buildings, and then they closed the Bedford PA bicycle assembly plant and sold the brand to a holding company which sent production offshore.

I lived in the area and even explored going to work for them. I was, unfortunately, a minor shareholder when the project started. Annual reports during those MC years were less than impressive. There were some financial deals that went down at the top levels of the company that I thought were not in the best interest of the corporation as well, but ultimately I think it was the failed MC operation that took it down.

You can still buy a thick-tube bike, but as a company they are a shell of their former selves.
