I see the O'Show on quite a few lists. He was about 7-8 yrs before my time but what moto buff doesnt know about his MXdN ride. He was that special on the 125? Not a top 5 pick but always thought Fro ripped on his Yamaha. The stock Yamahas were beyond pitiful back then too. Either he was that good or Factory Yamaha tuned the hell out of his bike

No questions asked.

Best 125 rider in speed, style, and wins. Nobody will ever come into the pro ranks and make a splash like he did.

^^this x100 . Every rider anywhere trys to imitate him in one way or another. We're lucky to be able to watch a guy who has transformed the sport in such a way.

I'd have a hard time arguing against this one. I know JS7 was bad to the bone, but didn't the bomber almost become the first undefeated rider In a season. Seems like he lost just one moto that year. We'll never know because of the 22 year spread.

No disrespect to Barnett as he was and is a bad dude....many guys that have been mentioned are.

But really....JS on that 259 KX125 = untouchable.

Yep,Barnett was the best 125 racer.

But Cooper & Stewart were always my 2 favorites to watch ride a 125.

^^^^Best performance ever on a 125! Turn up the volume and hear how the O'show had that 125 singing.

Best 125 rider ever is sooooo hard to say. RC/James/Barnett any one of these could be #1. All 3 of those guys were so impressive! I would also throw Donny Schmidt, Micky Dymond, Steve Lamson, and Doug Henry on the list.

Well I definitely agree with Stewarts 40th to 1st run at Budds and Omara's MXdN win were the 2 best 125 rides ever. You can add Villopotos Budds MXdN to those 2 as well. (yes I know RV1's was on a 250f but its still the 125 class to me). However I am shocked that Marty Smith hasnt been mentioned at all. The few years he dominated he was head and shoulders faster than the rest ( a little hair joke to pay homage to his California surfer locks) The way he laid waste to the GP boys at Mid-Ohio GP in 75 was epic ,and thats when the Euros were the unbeatable force. But I will say that James has to be the pick for #1

There have been a lot of great 125 riders over the years........but I don't think anyone could argue.......JS7 all the way!! He did things on that little Kawi 125 that were beyond possible and bent the rules of physics........simply incredible!

James Stewart would mop the floor with any and all competition in the 125 class.

He was that good. No one could do what he did and he took the sport to where it is now with the riding style he invented on that 125. Single handily he has reshaped how you ride a motorcycle. Which is truly amazing and next to MC he has taken this sport further than any riders before him.

My picks would be:

James
Bomber
RC.

I think they both did, Barnett went out with a broken collarbone, and James went out with a mechanical, if I had to pick 2 it would be them...

No, he didn't benefit from the evolution. He was the one that evolved the sport. Everyone after him has benefitted from his influence in the sport. JBS259 is by far the greatest 125 racer ever.

James Stewart for sure.
The dude could make that bike to anything he wanted. Things beyond the laws of physics. When the 450's were coming into play he would bust lap times as fast or faster than Reed and RC (who were on 450's) on his 125. The dude was insane.
