Most kids have their Character set roughly by the time they reach 10 as most youth programs try to teach kids under ten as it costs less than having to deal with teens or adults. Youth to most studies are up to 25.
We ran an Indigenous program for about 10 kids, and it was amazing how much dicipline they got out of MX as if they didn't go to school, or played up No Ride. We looked after 13 bikes at the time and not being up to Billy's mechanical status we struggled a lot but with Practice 2 days a week and racing Sunday when they had to have a sober adult to help flag etc, it was hard.
After 12 months the program closed as it was too much work for me and the family and we had used my 2 Son's grants to pay for the shortfall from funding. Took all on the bus to Darwin to race and all riders had to sell 100 tickets at $2 each and didnt matter if they lost them or had them stolen (which happened) they were responsible.
4 of the kids I have met many times since and they are still so respectful and while only one is racing fulltime the others help him in the pits, they are so well mannered I should take some lessons from them.
It is absolute bullshit people saying all riders cheat bla bla bla, having gutless officials is the main reason this has got way out of hand. We advised the steward at an Aussie Championship that we would be filing a protest on the 65cc and 85cc class, all riders. Wow the 3 main riders were so much slower the next day and they had special paint which they copied on the 85cc but it was picked up and reason accepted by the Steward who was mostly asleep in the tower.
Life is so easy when you don't lie, thieve or kill as by most of you that is ok as everyone does it. Honesty is so easy but so hard for someone else to accept. Good Luck Master Deegan reckon you may need it. Under MA rules the rider is responsible for all actions by anyone associated with him, 3 months for cheating, 24 months for Daddy and mechanic. too fukin easy.
Life aint fair, they will always race a bike that is fasteR
"Have heard Swoll is ok.. nothing broke. Marchbanks flight precautionary.. Joey Crown took a flight yesterday for leg injury.. and possibly another flight going out today for Hoeft.. rough few days at Freestone.. would rather be talking about protests and stuff.."
Pit Row
It's too bad when we make decisions that negatively impact our kids.
For those feeling this situation was somehow was justified by doing this because "it happens all the time", it appears you're wrong.
The LL process is one of the most interesting and fun family racing things any of us can do. There's so much at stake for some of the families, it makes some do things they normally wouldn't..
It's not that difficult to follow the printed guidelines or ask questions before getting called out on the carpet.
" pull them bikes down" funny thing was, my kids had never owned new bikes and there sponsor bought the bikes on the way to the nationals, off the show room floor. Biggest buzz when he announced, "none of these bolts have ever been undone" i really believe that no one who can ride would cheat.
