1982 or 83 night racing at Seattle International Rockeries. Riding open expert – 5 laps sprints. We called it rockery for obvious reasons. The first turn went a bit left then 90 degrees right. I was outside and in the left bend my foot collided with a rather large fkn rock. My foot went numb but I raced to the finish. When I got back to the truck I had my buddy grab the bike as I stepped off. Yes something is broken….loaded up and headed to the hospital.

Broke the 3rd bone in the flat of my left foot. Into a soft cast and home. The next evening I was sitting and watching the one-eyed monster when my chest hurt real badly. Went into the bedroom and laid down – was there for over an hour with the most excruciating pain I had ever experienced!!! Got up and had dinner and sat down and it fkn happened again! 45 minutes later I was again chillin in front of the one-eyed monster.

The next morning after being scolded by my bride for being a stubborn SOB, I called a doctor. Chose a heart doctor as that was where the pain was centered. I was advised to get my stinking arse to the hospital ASAP…….when I arrived I rushed into nuclear medicine and had some sort of scan.

From there I went to the doctor’s office where I was greeted by the doctor. He shook my hand and said I was one lucky SOB. He said I was the only one in over in _________ people - when the first blood clot ran up my leg and into my heart and I lived!!! What was even more amazing he said that I was again one in over ________people to live when the second blood clot went up my leg and into my heart? The scan showed that both clots followed the exact same path. He was overwhelmed that I was standing in his office as the odds were not even measureable that I was alive.

That evening I won the lottery twice!!!

My other damages (broken bones) are rather extensive – but damn I love the adrenaline rush of riding my dirt cycleWoohoo

This doesn't compare to Ridge but I broke my back and wrist when I was about twelve. I was knocked out for a while and don't remember anything. I basically "woke up" on my couch two weeks later. I also lost all vision on my left side. Both of my eyes are missing about a third of their field of vision. I have to cheat on driving vision tests to keep my license. I run into stuff every once in a while and trip over things that I can't see but it's all good.

I don't want to re-list all my injuries....because it just makes me think about them all over again.

I didn't get past the first page of this thread after I saw Ridge's post. God damn it Chris! That shit will be in my mind for quite a while!

Compression fracture of my T-10 vertebrae, broke the ball off of my left humorous, AC separation of left shoulder, broke 2 ribs, tore my ACL, and bent my ProTapers. It was an open practice. A small kid on a 50 pulled into the track in a rhythm section that I was going threw. I had to throw it away.

Broke my Tibia is 7 places and Fibula in 2 places. Almost had my leg amputated. Never take the first doctors opinion. Snowboarding.

I did this a month ago. Lost my middle finger at the first knuckle, about 1/4" of my ring, and cut the tendon in my thumb.

Worst moto injury would be the time I crushed my trachea and had a tension pneumothorax. Would have died on the track if the paramedics had been five more minutes out. As it was I spent 8 days intubated and a few more still in the ICU.

Another paper cut compared to Ridge's. This one is recent though, 4 weeks today. I was hopeful they could fix the middle finger, but there was no bone anymore from the first knuckle down, saw turned it to shrapnel.

My best friend owns a cabinet shop in the valley, and about 20 years ago he cut off 3 of his fingers on his right hand on the table saw when a board broke. It was UGLY.

Me? I can't really complain compared to Chris, but I did my right clavicle twice, both wrists, 4 ribs, my right humorous, both ACL's, and around 5 concussions. I feel lucky compared to some of the stories posted since I have no lingering effects, other than the fact I can't play basketball anymore, and my short term memory tends to fail me more times than I like.

Not that terrible compared to... most of you, but I can still remember the pain. I was riding on a trail in about 3rd gear and then the rest is blacked out. Came to on the ground right next to a tree and the bike a little bit ahead of me. Long story short my "area" was purple for about 3 weeks and I couldn't sit down for the first week without excruciating pain; also peed blood. Good times.

High Tib plateau fracture, 16 screws and a Ti plate to hold me back together, during rehab I broke the bone again, in total I was down for 6 months.....That was oct. 10 2009......Then Aug of this year, the area swelled up, ended up having a bad infection, they had to go in and remove the plate and screws, installed a PICC line for a 24hr a day antibiotics infusion, that I had to wear for 3 months and when they took out the hardware, they installed some kind of beads on the bone for 3 months, those now are removed and Im now working on getting back full motion and strength

Many years ago I had my share of broken bones, nothing like some of you guys! one of my kids shattered his heel .It was by far the hardest thing to get over, Two years and still having surgeys!! When it happened the paramedic looked at me and said "I think it is his heel" I was thinking ok 6 weeks in a cast and back racing we go. I just never knew how bad a heel could be!

I was doing wheelies in downtown Portland when I slammed into a smelly hippie riding a bicycle.

I broke his glass smoking device and I sustained a fractured face, collapsed lung and road rash. I was back on the streets in two weeks however.

I'm modifying my "worst" injury.

The time I almost died in the ambulance was neat and all, but I might say that the "worst" was racing the winter combat series at Aztec in Colorado Spring, almost exactly a year ago. I was coming out of a big radius turn and cracked 3rd gear wide open. I was on my second ride on my kawi and the tail wiggled a little which didn't concern me at all, but the wiggle immediately turned into a full blown side to side explosion. In the ragdoll down the track, I think the handlebar snagged on the crotch of my pants. It wasn't pretty, no broken skin, but three notable impact points in the taint region and on the shaft. I was happy not to have smashed a testicle, and called it a day and went home. The first time I peed after returning home, it was followed up by profuse bleeding. I called my dad, who's a doctor, to ask if I needed to go to the ER, he said there's not much to do for a torn urethra, and to keep an eye on it. It bled for a few days but seemed to be improving, but the swelling in the area got way out of hand. I became concerned about the swelling doing permanent damage, and went to see a urologist. The urologist figured out that it wasn't swelling, but I had what's called a high-flow priapism. It's very rare and usually heals itself, but not in my case. Basically I had torn a bunch of blood vessels in my dong, and they were dumping blood continuously into the tissue that give you a boner. To avoid the story getting too long, I went for 10 months or so and through two interventional radiology procedures, before getting a semi-normal boner again. For a while it didn't seem like it was ever really going to work again. Life wasn't going that well anyway, and the addition of this made it easily the worst time of my life. I'll take any broken bone over this one.

So for ten months you appeared to be happy to see everyone?

"...semi-normal boner..." I had one of those the first time I watched The Crying Game.

There's a couple other guys on here that have had their legs cut off too! Travis, where you at? I talk to a lot of people who are getting ready for amputation or just had it done.

LOL, I didn't find out I could keep my spleen until they threw it away but, yea, I get what you are saying about it bringing you down.

At least you have been afforded some great opportunities and experiences that did come from the injury.

I know of a few for you off the top... And the reality, they make you a pioneer in our sport for others with similar situations.

Adaptive class in Xgames is no longer just a demo...
First off the line in the 1000...
Raced the 2000 - 900 miles on your own....

the list goes on and on lol

Shit on my bucket list, HA!

It was stuck at about 40%, and maxed out at 70%.

Wait, are you hurt again?

And I'd leave the bruised colon part out next time. I know it adds to your list butt...

Broken neck, c3 and c4 vertebrae. They put screws in my head and gave me traction therapy to pop a facet back into place, It took 75 pounds of weight attached to bracket they had screwed in my head to pull my spine enough to pop it back.
