2015 Honda 2-strokes?

Just the other day I read a "rumor" that Honda was loosing sales to the KTM 2-strokes and they were looking into making a new 85, 125 and 250 for 2015? Then today I heard someone at the track talking about pics in Dirt Rider of a direct-injection 2-stroke Honda. It would make sense with all of the 2012-13 CRF's sitting around Honda realizes they are loosing sales due to being absent from the 2-stroke market.

Don't know if any of this true but if it is sign me up for a new 2-stroke!

the dirt rider picture was either the photoshopped version 250 2 stroke in a modern 4t frame or the MPS version
i have the very magazine and all it is, is dirt rider saying that there is talk of the rise of 2 stroke sales within big companies other than ktm, now whether or not they act upon it is a whole other story

id' take the rumor's with a huge salt brick.

Honda would be the last to bring back the 2 strokes. They were the first to do away with them, and have a "clean" reputation, even if a cleaner 2 stroke is within reason, I doubt they would bother

if honda brought back the 2007 cr85 125 and 250 and sold them for 2.5k,4k, 5, respectively they'd be sold out at every dealership

Well not the cr 85 because the new KX and KTM 85 now own the mini class and no one buys the Honda 150. Suzuki has pulled out and unless Yamaha redesigns the YZ 85 motor with a powervalve they will also soon be gone.

Someone has to notice KTM is killing the 4 four in dirt bike sales. They sell out of every 2-stroke they make. I know what Honda said but they are in business to make money. One of the big 4 will jump ship and make a modern 2-stroke to compete with KTM.

I would like to see actual numbers. It seems extremely easy for some of you to make such statements as, "KTM sells out every two stroke they make."

Doesn't really matter anyways. Buy your favorite color, pick a sound, and ride the titties off of it.

Quite a few leftover bikes, 12/13 , 2 and 4 stroke and I have seen plenty of ktm.2 strokes still sitting on the showrooms floors.

Are they SX models? The local KTM dealers around here have no problem moving the 2-strokes but there are plenty of 4-strokes sitting around. The KTM 85 was one of the best sellers and Kawasaki noticed this and finally revamped the KX 85. We picked up one last week and son really likes the bike once we got Powerband to setup the suspension.

Funny how everyone touts KTMs unit sales as if that is what Honda wants.

They dont want unit sales. They want parts sales.

4 strokes are more expensive to maintain. Thus more profit. Duh.

So Honda wants "parts sales" from four strokes? Why is it that just about every required component for there 2-strokes is readily available? As a company, that's what you do, you make money off of the parts of the bikes you produce whether it be 2 stroke or 4 stroke. Have you ever bought Suzuki parts? Suzuki charges $28 for ONE handlebar clamp rubber grommet. Honda charges $14 for all 4. Honda is not making more profit from 4 strokes, they are making a profit on all of the parts from the bikes they produced.

Damn, even a hardcore two stroke guy like me is getting tired of "Honda needs to build a smoker". Tons of threads about this topic, recently a pretty good article in motocross illustrated about Hondas intentions. So far seems to be a matter of some (many it seems) that dig smokers, want them back, but as already mentioned no actual sales showing KTM owning the market in such a fashion that the japs are hurting. Meanwhile we all market can go by a KTM or yz and force the other brands to adapt to "our needs". It's not rocket surgery, its not that Honda will ignore making tons of money just because. It's all business, nothing more, nothing less.

Personally I would buy a Honda rather than anything else if they made some better than the YZ125. Until then I'm totally happy with KTM and Yamaha being the only players. Totally good enough. It's not that we ride so much, we are wearing out the market of smokers. I haven't been riding for weeks, my old yz125 is collecting dust as we speak, so why the hell should I crave for a better ride if I'm not using what I have...

Not so fast there buddy. The go cart racers weren't quite so quick to roll over and let Honda force the CRF250 engine down their throats. So Honda did what Honda needed to do and stepped up with a 2 stroke engine "kit". Guess that technically keeps them from actually selling a 2 stroke engine......Laughing

Just picked up my 2014 KTM 300XC and had the 7th of 8 delivered in one week at the store here in Colorado. So yeah they should be concerned.
