Who is this 14year old pro?

Not bagging on the kid, but wouldn't it be better to focus on amateur nationals and getting signed that way?? he mentioned that he hopes someday to signed by a arena cross team, but surely wouldn't it be a step below a supercross team?

Never heard of him either but does good in ArenaCross- Pro Sport is the class right below the top classes in Arenacross.

Looks to be doing pretty good for 14 yrs. old though.

Wish him luck, but he has a long way to go. From what I see I don't think he would top 5 the novice class at Loretta's, and have a hard time qualifying in intermediate.

I don't think they had him working with a nail gun but probably had him picking up scrapes, even if he doesn't make it in MX he learned about work and nothing is free.

At the beginning of the video I was like, "this is horse shit, 14 years old and says he is a professional motocross racer... okay..." But by the end I thought it was pretty cool. By the time he is 16 he could possibly be a lot faster if he sticks with it like he is now and avoids injury.

shaun kalos and ricky johnson were pros at 13 and both were fast. you either have it or you don't.

Instead of baggin' on this kid, why don't we offer him some words of encouragement? He's not asking for money, the video was very well done, and he's clearly willing to put in the work.

Encouragement is great, but there is reality also. He needs a lot more speed. Practice with faster riders as much as possible. Hopefully ride with someone that has run the lites series with some success(If arena cross is your next goal). This way you have a way of knowing where you stand, and ways to improve.

Most not be very fast with such a high number like 316.

He definitely has some work to do, but he's only 14 so he has plenty of room for improvement. Sure he's no AC but lets not forget money plays a huge role in this sport. Whether or not he makes it, at least he's willing to put in the time and work and enjoys what he does. Wish him the best of luck!

There is a big difference between local pro (CMC) and AMA Pro. I believe that you have to be 16 now to get a AMA Pro card.

Lots of riders have ridden themselves into beig a pro.

I was sitting in the stands at the LA Supercross round 1 in 97. I convinced myself I could do it. The next week I was racing. I had never ridden a SX track. The only advice I got was, "make sure you are I third gear for the triple" from Mike Craig

Heath Voss couldn't make a night show his first couple years, he made it to factory Yamaha and was world SX champ.

Still talking about having a 3 year old on a construction site. As far as I know, that's illegal pretty much everywhere, not to mention dangerous. Teaching work ethic to a 3 year old? Their brain simply cannot fathom the concept at that age.

As an AX team manager, I would not sign him. There is no way he can beat my riders. I bet he does not make the night show, or even qualify through the timed qualifying. You have to be on your game and he does not look that smooth. If I have anything to tell this young kid, go to lorettas and see where you are really at. In 2015 all riders have to get through the AX series to go race SX (Hints Road to Supercross) so the field will be even more stacked. If he does race the series I will see how he does but i bet he will not be very good at this whole AX thing at first.

Come on guys, it appears this was a Crossfit commercial. I'm sure the "professional motocross racer" part was exaggerated for effect. You know, I went pro and it's all credited to Crossfit.

Just found this thread and had to post a response. First of all let me say thank you to all of you who actually had something encouraging or positive to say. My kid will actually see this so, thanks. And to those of you who didn't... seriously man? Dawson Newby is my son, and the hardest working now 15 year old I have ever known. (Sound proud? I am) Let me clarify just a few things:

Other than the title in the Crossfit Video, which we did not come up with, Crossfit International did, everything stated is factual. Dawson is NOT a Professional Motocross racer (The term Motocross was a general statement) He is a Class A Colorado racer in MX, and SX and as of last year a professional Arenacross Lites and Arenacross Premier class racer... He rode both last season. Because it is a bit unusual for a 14 year old to be committed to Crossfit, they wanted to hear more of his story. They sent a film crew out from CA to see first hand. We are very thankful for their program, and for the video. Dawson continues today, a year and a half later with Crossfit 4 days a week, 60 - 100 miles a week on the road bike, 2 days on our AX Track, a Paleo diet, 10% body fat or less all while maintaining his grades in public school. And yes, occasionally he still works construction on free days... Burned out... sometimes, but the choice is always his and he keeps digging deep. .

My construction business was mine, family owned, family ran, and yes he was 3, and wanted to come to work everyday through that summer. I paid him $2.00 and hour for the hours he was on site... he worked through the summer, 3 months... you can do the math there. He picked up scraps as suggested but also drug 2x4s up onto the deck so we could frame, 1 at a time, pretty much all day long... He earned the money, paid for his first bike as stated. It was his choice, he was not forced in any way... in fact was often enouraged to stay home, wanted to "go to work." He has pretty much continued since then. He is now 15. I have been a Youth Pastor for the last 10 years but he has continued to work with a friend of mine. At 15 he now has the skills and abilities such that he can frame a house, install interior trim, siding, and tile your bathroom. If he doesnt make it in racing he wants to be a cop, or a fireman so he can help people... but he can always fall back on contruction. I work with teens everyday and unfortunately many have little concept of hard work. Hard work has always been a part of our lives.

As already stated I am a Youth Pastor and have been for the last 10 years. Pastors work Sundays, and summers are my busiest time. As a result, Dawson has never really been able to compete in - even a state Motocross Series. Our state SX series races are on Saturdays... therefore, he started racing SX at the state level at 4. My winters are a little more flexible so the Arenacross series was a great fit. He wanted to race, we found a way for him to do that, AX just fit into the schedule better. NO he has never been to Loretta's, also never made any statements regarding that??? In fact, he said he wanted to someday sign with an AX team.

Dawson has experienced some success at the state level, and at the AX Amateur National Level. He experienced enough success at the state level to receive a promotion letter to the A class. No they cannot force you to move up until you are 16 but with Dawson it has never been about sandbagging until they kick you up a class... it has never been about an Amateur National Championship, MX or other... It has always been about his heart to progress and someday race with the best in the business. He recognizes he progresses much faster chasing faster riders. This idea of moving up early is nothing new. He has done that since moving to 65's from 50's at 6. We have simply attempted to provide an avenue for him to be able to progress that fit into our schedule. With an A classification at 14 you can try to race Pro AX Lites and Pro AX Premier... but few do. At the start of the season the AX officials were clear, he can give it a shot, but if he can't cut it we'll have to move him back down... He hung in there, and they didnt move him back down. In fact the first race of the West Series he finished timed qualifing 47th out of 62. Next race he was 33rd out of 58 in the Lites and 37th in the Premier. He then knocked on the door of the top 30 and the night show, coming in 31st and 33rd over the next 2 races. Each round anywhere from 50-65 show up to qualify. During the Kansas City round we were approached by Chuck Lemaster with Team Faith who suggested his suspension set up was holding him back. We knew we had been fighting that the whole series, but didnt know where to turn. He suggested Craig Decker with Enzo, made a call... we overnighted the suspension back and forth, and the very next round in Denver he made the night show in both classes qualifing 21st in the Lites and 27th in the Premier class... on his birthday... so he was actually 15 that night. Additionally he rode the ProSport and Expert classes on Sundays and finished the West Division Pro Sport Champ and 9th at the AX National Championships, all with a bone stock KX250f motor. From 47th to 21st over 5 races... thats progression, and thats what its always been about, personal improvement! I know, I know, its not Loretta's... Its just AX... remember a guy named Tyler Bowers that won the LasVegas Lites SX race... last year... AX is for real. (Oh by the way, Tyler also started racing Pro AX at 15 as did another guy named Darcy Lange) We also well understand the reality that with AX being a must stepping stone to Pro SX we are bound to start seeing all of those Loretta's champions... If Dawson's attitude and heart has always been about progressing and personally getting better the right on, we welcome more competition... think about it. When your purpose is progression and not wins, it changes the whole focus. He has never had a desire to simply be the best of the B's, or the best of the C's, or the Supermini's... We knew going into last season he would not be leading up front but chasing from behind. His goal was to make a night show in the Lites by the end of the season. We are realistic. He met that goal and then some. At 15, this year, his goal is to make all the night shows and some mains... By the time he is 18... 3 more full years from now... if he keeps progressing, who knows?

Look, bottom line is this... He / we do not claim that Dawson is in anyway the BEST or the fastest. He struggles everyday with the mental aspect of the sport. Imagine pulling up to the line for timed qualifing and seeing the same names on the jerseys around you that you have on your walls in your room. The first time he pulled up next to Tyler Bowers, and Tyler Villapoto he nearly filled his shorts. Yeah I know, Tyler, not Ryan... nevertheless, the name on the jersey is intimidating. Dawson simply wants to race, be the best he can be, stay healthy and progress as far as he can... period. If last year was any indication he will have his SX Lites endorsement by the time he turns 16... he only lacks 2 advancement points. This year he has a Chad Goodwin built motor (Chad has wrenched for some of the top AX racers), fresh Enzo suspension and looks more confident than ever. Its fine you don't know who this kid is... He likes it that way. If it was up to him he would keep a much lower profile. Low profiles, unfortunately, is not what attracts sponsors and we have been very blessed in that way. Check out Dawsons website, Google him... there are a lot of people that actually think his hard work ethic, heart and determination is something rare.
