I know its only been a week since its unveiling, but I am very curious to see how the overall package performs on the track.

Just think if everyone tried to use power valves on their 2-stroke motors... Oh wait.

Yamaha was actually the first company to produce consistent results with their YPVS in their race bikes. The 1977 OW35K was the first race bike to incorporate the power valve system and it won the Finnish GP in 1977. The Kadenacy effect was harnessed and controlled to a point that gave Yamaha great advantage over all the other manufacturers throughout the late 70's and into the mid 80's. The first street bikes with YPVS were the RZ/RD350 YPVS (LC2-onwards), and RZ/RD500 GP Replica in 1983-84. - Wikipedia

For the most part, there weren't many actual complaints about the last version. The mags all pretty much stated that it did everything fairly well. Just didn't do anything great. Sometimes those are the bikes that win "shootouts"...

Dr. D is already hard at work on an engine relocation kit for it, so don't look for any feedback until after that's out...

He's busy whittling some prototype mounts out of a solid block of carbon fiber with a keychain pocket knife and nail file, give him a few minutes..

The 2010-11' and 12' bikes had a line drawn in the sand.

The line was.......the bike was great for every rider from beginner to very fast local pro's....never heard any complaints from any of those guys. But I guess the top notch pro guys didn't care for it.......possibly pushing it to the point where it was failing on the track.

What cracks me up about 99.9999% of the dudes on this board , or your local "C class" rider saying......"Yeah man....the bike sucks..cause Stewart said so". Christ....there are some pretty fast dudes around the NW here that actually prefer the damn thing. I actually really liked my 2010 bike....but I'm just a Vet rider....what the hell do I know? Dizzy

Oh jeffro, why would you want to talk common sense here? You know the new bike has all kinds of issues because all the fast vital keyboard jockeys can tell by looking at the pictures!Laughing

Husaberg will be shocked to find out Yamaha was the first to move the engine around for better mass centralization.

Who's joking? It was claimed earlier in this thread that Yamaha was the innovator that everyone else followed in the odd engine configuration in the name of mass centralization. Husaberg did it earlier, and better, a full year earlier.

Having said that, I dont think there is anything wrong with the Yamaha for 99+ percent of riders, but lets get real, Yamaha is no more innovative than any other manufacturer.

Husaberg and Husqvarna were also building purpose built motocross 4 strokes long before Yamaha, yet most give Yamaha credit for that also.

Not only that, but Husaberg won 3 World 500 titles on a 500 four stroke, competing against 500 two strokes, not with the bullshit almost double displacement advantage Yamaha did it with against 250s.

We are supposed to get them here at the end of the month here inPA.

I think I am going to get one of the first ones and not wait for the big rebates. Liked the last generation bikes, and look forward to the new bike.
I never had any brand loyalty till 2010, and I have bought one or two bikes a year since 1977. I did like the last generation of Yamahas, and I hope not to be disappointed.....

I've got to admit, that new Yammie looks sharp. It's the first Japanese bike that I've been interested in in a very, very long time. Things like those plastic rivets in front of the seat are going to make them look ragged out in a hurry though.

If sarcasm equaled speed, you guys would be world-class racers. Unfortunately, it does not.

I want to trade my 2011 in for it. When does FMF start selling a "snake exhaust" for the older version so I can get that pipe away from my shock?

I have been waiting on that pipe for my 2011 as well. I have called and email both Dr D and FMF and cant get a response from them if and when they will make one.

Meh, I always found that whoever bought a bike thought they were awesome until they sold it, mainly because theyve dropped 10 grand on a toy, so why wouldnt it be awesome. Like the link in my sig explains.

Can't say I've ever heard any bad things about it, never heard ANYTHING about how good they were though, and now whoever had the 11 or 12, is now jumping ship to another colour pretty much....that usually says more than words.

As I recall, the 2010 YZ 450F was introduced to the press on an immaculately prepped Budd's Creek. All the first ride reports celebrated the mass-centralized YZ as the best handling bike ever. Press intros are held on tracks that are as smooth and well prepped as a billiard a table. I wouldn't pay much attention to the first ride reports.

Yeah, you are missing something. If you'd read instead of just looking at pictures, you'd discover a lot has changed about the bike.

Looks good. The black clutch cover might look ugly fast but everything else is sweet. I like new and different though, so my opinion may be flawed. I haven't looked at the new KX close enough yet to tell if the graphics are even any different than my '13? I wouldn't hesitate to buy the YZ if my Kawi dealer didn't treat us so good. Yamaha is trying to hit a homerun this year so I bet this will be a really good bike.
