RJ on his best day couldn't keep RC, Ferry, Stewart, etc. from lapping him. That's not knocking RJ or any of the other top guys of their time but the reality is that riding evolves. The RJ of 1988 put on the line against a 2008 250 or 450 class wouldn't break the top 20.
That's the struggle with these comparisons. While they're fun to do, it makes no sense to think that Joel Robert or Torsten Hallman would keep up...
That's the struggle with these comparisons. While they're fun to do, it makes no sense to think that Joel Robert or Torsten Hallman would keep up with RC or Stewart. The riding skills used 30 years ago are very different than what's used today. However, I really believe that you could take any top rider from 30 years ago, and if brought up with the riding skills of today, they would still be top riders.

To answer the original question- RC.
yea and ignorant folks l;ike yerself still think chuck yeagar can't fly an f18.

what a stupid stupid run of humans that have been born in the last 35 years here on this rock..afuckingmazing.

If your head was in the guillotine, at the emperors demand.....and you had to pick one rider to race one race, one 45 minute moto, at a outdoor track like unidilla or carlsbad, glen helen, etc, and he could be in his prime, who do u pick? He'd be racing against the other greats in their prime in the 250 or open class. Your head gets lopped off if youre wrong. Carmichael is the shiznit, but Im taking RJ to my grave. Indoor might be a different pick. But Ill take a prime rick johnson

And you're a delusional bitter stupid fuck.

This goes for nearly every sport since the beginning of time, why do you think world records are constantly being broken?

I didn't say if RJ came up as a rider with the stars of today, I said the RJ of 1988, with the skills of the RJ of 1988.

Put a 10 year old RJ, or Hannah, or Decoster at the beginning of their career out there at Lorettas 8 years ago then absolutely they would rise to the top by 18, the same things that made them champions then would make them champions today.

But anyone who thinks you could go back and pull DeCoster, Hannah, RJ, or even MC into 2008 and have them winning first day doesn't have a clue. Do you really think MC has gotten that much slower since he quit racing?

So only one person says JBS and with a SX only clause at that. lol Lenny will be right over to set everyone straight. Dizzy
Obviously the most consistent and proven rider ever to throw a leg over a bike especially under pressure is of course Ricky Carmichael. I would bet it all that James would pick Ricky without hesitation and James is the best rider racing on two wheels today and probably ever if there was never a RC.

JBS - fastest rider ever for any one race. A few of us had the same discussion last year and even though RC was everyone's pick for a championship you could not bet against James for any one race. He has the talent of a Bayle or Lechein and the ability to hang it out like Hannah as well.

Im going to dig deep..... "Rocket" Rex Staten..... that guy would run people over to get ahead of them. I have actually shared the track with him.... He actually stuffed me hard in a corner, almost stopped flipped me off yelling and then took off!!!

How could anyone, with life on the line, not pick RC? Seriously, fastest ever. Decoster, RJ, Hannah, all those guys couldn't touch some of the stuff RC can do on a bike. But getting away from scrubs and jumping out to anything with a downside, RC's corner speed is second to none. And it's the corners that make all the difference.

Yep, you can take all your fancy scrubs and whips, but motocross is lost and won in the corners.

Ya know Randy, logic and taking time to think things out have no place around here. You will never win with a sensible attitude like yours..Next thing ya know, you will claim that changing you're suspension settings has no effect on the seat bounce and it can be done with solid rods in place of the suspension.. (sarcasm alert!)

Oh ya, of course its RC and yes i have seen them ALL race since 1970 but as Randy so eloquently pointed out, it makes no difference how they were then since the race would take place against the riders of today who's skills were honed on bikes of today and who have the benefit of 40 years of developent of technique etc etc etc. RC wins, not even a contest.
