Riding Superstitions

Edited Date/Time 2/28/2013 8:00am
I have to put my left boot on first I dont know why. If I catch myself putting my right one on first I will take it off then put left boot on first.

Also I wont ride in the gear I broke both my wrists in, wont even put it in my gear bag.

What are some superstitions you guys have or have heard of?

When I get a brand new helmet I drop it in the dirt before I ride.

this, so much

Edit: I never ride with a t-shirt or what ever under my protection and jersey. It sort of makes me too comfortable so i ride slower.

I don't wear red gear anymore, My wife won't even let me look at it. My last to big dingers were in red so my wife has donated all red gear.

same here....last time I did not ended up breaking helmet and had concussed my self. Try to teach my 7y/o boy the same, he would not, and ended up wadding and breaking the visor the other day first lap with new helmet.

I also check my fuel petcock about 4-5 times at the line, it has never been off at the line but I want to make sure no one f..ed with it.

I was once told that crashing is very unlucky so I definitely avoid doing that as much as possible.

I heard about the new helmet thing so I actually hurl my helmet as hard as I can against a brick or cement wall before every ride. More=better.

I can't wear any gear that feels heavy to me. Thats why I resort to the most cheap ass gear. I've worn all the expensive shit. Tried many brands etc. It just makes me ride REALLY tight. I find it ironic that the expensive gear is the heaviest, usually. I guess it's a win for me though.

So true! If you think about it though, your last lap you are vulnerable because you are tired and make those mistakes.

And TLD GP...or Fox 180...etc.

Vented and/or "Hot Weather" gear is usually lighter.

Funnything, tho...what helmet are you wearing and have you weighed it?

I am actually quite interested in the Fly Lite gear. Might give it a try. TeamGreen, I actually own a couple Fox 180 gear and am looking at ordering the all white GP Gear. Love how light the Fox 180 stuff is. In terms of weight though the Answer Syncron is just ridiculously light. I love it! My helmet is a Bell Moto 9 and I am not exactly sure on the weight but it doesn't bother me.

A Bell Moto 9 is a damn good lid & they're not too heavy...which is nice.

I'm wearing the TLD stuff...mostly the GP "Vented" stuff for Baja...where heavy gear seems damn heavy!

As for Gloves: I'm wearing the full spectrum of TLD; but, gotta say...the Air and Ace are really nice...when there's Cactus or crap for my hands to hit, tho...the Gp's, SE's..and even some Apex's might get worn if it's REALLY gettin' Ugly!

Goggles? Dragon NFX's are a game changer (Moto) & I'll wear Vendetta's if I want a tear-off system that's virtually PERFECT.

Around my Neck? Leatt...Pro-Lite, Race or Trail...kinda diggin' the Pro just because I'm a Carbon-Dork. Truth? The Adventure weighs 2# and costs $199..."WINNER"!

Boots? I'm wearing Gaerne's 12's for one VERY SIMPLE reason...they are COMFY and they're insanely "walkable". Oh, and, I'm WORTH IT!

Here's the thing about Gear...in Plain and Simple TRUTH:

YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR!

I always put my right sock, knee brace and boot on first and I always sit on the drivers side of the bed of my truck when I'm getting dressed. I don't know why I do it, but it does feel weird if I change that routine up.

I've heard of the dropping your helmet on the ground thing before but it's a rediculous thing to do. Helmets are good for one hit of the head and one hit only. You're effectively using that hit up before you've even worn the helmet. It's highly likely that the material in the helmet that is designed to compress during a crash compresses when you drop it on the floor and when it does it doesnt return to it's original shape again, hence why helmets are only good for one hit of the head. If you were to crash and hit your head on the spot where you had already compressed the material then you would be at a much higher risk of suffering a head injury. Teaching your 7 year old to drop his new helmet on the floor is just beyond stupid.

You're not getting it...It's not about THROWING DOWN HARD on the Ground...

It's about puttin' a few scratches in it BEFORE you wear it...to chase of the "New Demons"...

Brits!

Pffft.

I mean, really? Who has their Bagers with Mash? Warm Beer? NASTY!

Blonde's, brunette's and red head's even seen some hot blue haired girl's. Did i mention white girl's, black girl's and every other color girl's. Superstitions bad fedishes good. CrazyRooster125

breathing through the eyelids is a MUST DO! All the top guys do it. Oh, RV2 wears pantyhose and RD5 wears thongs exclusively, and JS7 goes commando. DM18 actually started wearing thongs this year as well... coincidence? I think not!

If at all possible I take 2-3 laps around the peewee track before heading out to the main track. Check helmet strap and leatt snaps several times before rolling out of the pits.
2/27/2013 10:19am Edited Date/Time 2/27/2013 10:21am
I always find myself doing everything on the left first. I do a 'cross' when headed on to the track, tap the tattoo i got for my Dad and point to the sky. Everytime, no matter what type of riding I'm doing. I also won't wear red gear anymore like another guy said. Even if its the thread thats red. After breaking 4 bones in my foot at Lake Whitney in '06, while running 5th on the last lap of my last moto in the B class,(finished 10th) and then taking a footpeg to the chest at the World Mini 3 days after being released for my foot. Had a chest pro on too. just managed to get in to a weird flip that ripped it off and tore my chest open right at my diaphragm. Took the 3 sets of the 360 Fox gear straight to the garbage. I do the helmet thing too, but I don't drop mine. I just find a nice sized rock and put a good chip by the sticker on the back. Small and unnoticeable, yet gives a piece of mind when riding.

Teamgreen is right I dont chuck it a wall or throw out of a moving truck......the only thing "beyond stupid" is to imply that I would put my kid at risk like that.
