Jason XCmtb Liked a reply to forum topic Rumors say that KTM is bringing back the 360SX

Had a 380 back in the day and the motor was awesome. Unfortunately it came wrapped in the early PDS chassis and the handling was terrible. If that motor had gone into something decent back then, it would've been a big hit. Can't see why people are criticising this. Something with plenty of torque, easy to lug round the track, and hasn't got the repair costs, weight, and complicated motor of a 4-stroke? If it's done properly it'll be like a 450 without all the hassle.

so this is example #894849 of something very news-worthy happening in our sport, rumors begin to fly, and some "lower level" media guy reports it with the disclaimer of "This is what I'm hearing. No confirmation at all" (basically). Vital crucifies this person as being human garbage. Then - BAM - the news is confirmed. No stories from anyone within the REAL "moto-media" (who you know were hearing the same rumors AND because of their bromance relationships have almost immediately confirmed the story is true). Then what do we get? PR from the team. Downvote me.

I just watched a YouTube of a guy on a Triumph 250 there… wow. Looks like fun but my old butt would be dragging before I made 1 lap!!! I may have to plan a trip up there sometime. About a 6 hr drive, though. On second thought, it would probably be quicker and less painful if I stopped in East St. Louis to pick a fight with some gang members.

I'm about 2.5 hours south but I'd definitely make a the trip a few times, started riding a small local sand track and really starting to enjoy sand a lot more and want to level it up a bit.

I am so pissed that I’m just now finding out about the money race you just had. I’m up there all the time servicing my dealers, count me in!!!!

That's awesome! You know how gnarly it gets for sure then! I agree that LL and Sandy Oaks are very different tracks. My idea of using this facility as training grounds would be that if you can ride a 30 minute moto here and not fade, you can do it anywhere. Kind of like the old school baseball guy picking...
Awesome that you bought the track back to life, good luck and hope it goes well!!!!!!!!

I attended the '77 National and was blown away by the speed the pro's had on the sand. Saw Jimmy W. come to a stop when his prototype KX125 ran out of fuel. It was the first time I'd heard of Broc Glover and he impressed me that day. I rode a hare scrambles there in the chillier months of the early '80's, maybe November or March? I thought I was in pretty good shape at the time. The Sandy Oaks course proved to me that I definitely was not.

Was there for the '77 national. It was as rough as described. And it was jungle-like heat/humidity. We rode amateur day, and it about killed me. I wasn't at all sure I could race my second moto, and I was 22 and in shape at the time. Glad to see the track is being re-opened. Will have to think about whether I want to to subject myself to it again!

I remember Cocoa Beach in Florida and it and Sandy Oaks were mentioned in the same breath.

I would love to ride this track! But Illinois? Only if Prof125 agrees to meet me there! 125”s only!

Layout and surrounding with the trees is beautiful. The right side of the video reminds me of the sand pits I grew up riding. For the love of god though, do not groom the track! Let it get rough same as it was before. Sand tracks aren’t meant to be groomed. Nothing worse than a freshly flattened sand track. Tell guys like @motomind00132 to get a fuckin street bike if they want a “prepped” track. Bunch of pansies those guys are. Remember, it can’t be “America’s toughest track” if you groom it all the time. Good luck 👍
