San Diego SX, 1981 don't remember much from it being over 30 years ago, Mike Bell had the #1 Plate, Hannah was back and Smith was on a Suzuki, but that's all it took...the last one I went to was Las Vegas SX 2002. McGrath's last AMA SX race. Hard to watch, RC had EVERYONE covered that night. DV12 finished second that night (I believe?) and Stewart was the fastest 125 guy on the track that night before he went ass over teakettle in a tricky rhythym (sp) section.

1976 "Oly" Superbowl of Motocross LA Coliseum. Winner was Jimmy Ellis on Can Am. I remember Jimmy Wienert had a fractured patella and a hockey knee/shin guard taped on the outside of his leathers. Still have the program from the race. If I remember right I wore my riding jersey too.

Coliseum, 1990. Was out of following MX/SX since the 1970's. Just started riding again (about 2 years prior). Jeff Ward and MaetesXXXX ....ummmm.... MateasXXXXXX..... uh the Chicken did a hot lap before the race. When they hit the triple, I thought, "I have zero chance of being a pro this late in life."

Ward won the main.

1983 Anaheim. I was 15 years old, and went with my father and grandfather, who lived in Riverside. Dad and I flew out from Colorado and the three of us went. David Bailey won on the number 11 factory Honda.

I think it was Daytona 1977, some of the things I can remember were Jimmy Weinert doing no hand jumps during the race on the double in front of the main grandstand, Darrel Schultz telling the announcer that "if you cant beat Bob Hannah you aint shit" and running around the hotels and getting autographs from Warren Reid, Danny Laporte, Goat Brecker, Bob Hannah and Rick Burgett.

1979 LA coliseum, my neighbor was racing in his first supercross and we all went, he got seventh. I got to go into the pits and experience the whole deal. I remeber sitting and talking to Gaylon Mossier because I thought his new Uni Track bike was the trickest thing there. I remeber being sooo juelous of Jeff Ward because he had just come off of 80s and here he was getting paid to race with all our heros.

I got three jerseys that night, but only kept one, my neighbors. It was a cool experience for sure.

In 1995 when I was 23 a buddy and I drove from Denver to San Jose to see my first pro supercross. Seeing McGrath and Emig in practice was a highlight and running into a few other buddies was a real surprise.

The one and done Denver SX later that year was bittersweet. The Grand finale was cancellng a backpacking trip to the Grand Canyon to see the lights go out in Vegas.

early 70's superbowl of motocross in LA, my dad took me, everbody getting stoned and people throwing beer all over the place... my dad was not impressed and it took a while to let me get a bike, I finally got to take him to the dry lake El Mirage by Victorville? He rode my friends IT175 wide open, hit a bump, and he did a classic flying W. When he took off his helmet he was ghost white with a huge smile, he finally understood the "feeling". The frist and last time he ever rode or went with me.

He is 80 now and still talks about both events as if was yesterday.

My sons first SX was Daytona in the mud a couple of years ago, now he is a B rider and I'm the ol guy trying not to get hurtSmile
we get to ride almost every weekend, I feel lucky and blessed!

2011 Seattle SX. Just the wife and I, great time. We had a blast walking around the pits and being there for the race. Got to talk to Weimer and the H&H guys. It was great because the wife was into it as much as I was, super fun to share that together. Didn't make it last year because of our newborn with heart trouble. Would like to go again this year.

The original 1972 Superbowl of Motocross. I was 15. I still have the program somewhere.

My first experience was LA Supercross -- i think 1979.. I remember Mark Barnett (who was my favorite rider because i rode a RM60 that year) winning. I was rooting for Mike Bell to pass him, though, because he gave a jersey before the race. Mike was like 6ft 4 (8 ft tall to me at the time) and that jersey was my PJ's for year. I was lucky to have a dad that ran a track in SoCal, so I got the royal treatment for it being my first race. Got to walk the track and meet just about every one of my hero's. I just wish I still had the Mike Bell jersey and Donnie Hansen jersey from that day.

I think it was the 1998 Supercross Masters in Brisbane, Australia. I would have been 10. Got to see a young Michael Byrne and Andrew McFarlane in action.

This is my little nephew, who got his 1st SX experience this weekend in Oakland. Amazingly, Oak was not only my 1st SX, but i was also his exact same age!! (the epic '79 Paddle Tire Debacle, i was 9yrs old, and was hoarse for 3 days from screaming for Hannah to pass Weinert) So very cool in so many ways Cool

So, what was your 1st SX experience, where and what age?

Very cool topic!
I was 11 I thunk???
78' sx in New Orleans
Hannah got a shitty start and we all watched him out jump and pass everyone for the win
That started it all for me, bmx hobby changed into motocross hobby over night!
Got a rm80 and been obsessed ever since!

1990 Foxoboro Stadium. It was a boring race. JMB won and there was no passing at all near the front.

I haven't been to a SX since because they don't have any around. I am however going to Atlanta this year. Happened to have a meeting for work the same week as the race! I can't wait.

My first supercross was in Dallas, 1995. I was about ten years old. I got everyone's autograph pretty much, even Art Eckman's, but skipped out on getting Doug Henry's who went on to win the race. I didn't think much of it at the time, but a lot of people sitting around me and my family had no idea who the riders were since they were covered in mud, but I was able to tell everyone who was who because of their riding style. Henry nailing the triple consistently had the crowed on their feet!

Houston SX 1978. I was 12, my brother was 14. My mom let us ride over with a friend whose mom and boyfriend dropped us off in front of the Astrodome and said they would be back at midnight to pick us up. Think about that for a moment.....

Anyway, it was great. I jumped over the rail and grabbed one of Hannah's tear off's from the side of the track with a security guard in pursuit. Got a shit ton of autographs, stickers and posters in the pits as they were wide open at the time and all the racers hung out after the race. Got separated from my cohorts in crime and almost peed my pants but then I saw them and all was good again. Would hate to have been stranded 100 miles from home with about four dollars in my pocket...Laughing
Um... Should have just txt'd one of your cohorts, "where u guys at?" Did you lose your phone?

San Jose, I think late 80s but it could have been 90 or 91. I had been to outdoors dating back to early Hangtown and Sears Point but the San Jose races were my first Supercrosses. They used all the seats so being in the first few rows it felt like you were right under the bikes which were 10-15 feet overhead. My first non San Jose supercross was Anaheim 1993 the day modern supercross began.

I have one of the Jerseys Donnie wore that night.

Early in the 83 season, I see a kid walking across the parking lot in Daytona. Bailey leans over to me and says "that kid hauls ass".

A few weeks later, "that kid" ruins everyone's night in Orlando on someone else's Yamaha.

I would travel to Syracuse if they would have it at the dome.
