With that said, I haven't read the other 4 pages of this thread, but as far as I am concerned, Mike paid his dues, and I wish him the very best at turning his life around.

Hi Healy.I tell him that. He's a "normal" working familyman (still looks like JesusWink ) and sometimes ride/race weekends. Do i have to say he's still got it? If you and lady are ok, it's fine with me. I'm not the person to throwing stones... Lifes goes on, it has to. And most punkrock sucks (not Ramones).....have you never heard a band called AC and DC?Whistling

Hey Guys ,
i found this topic on the web , i was looking how mike is doing since he was arrested , and read that there was an article in a magazine , i special rode to belgium to buy the magazine!
I have always been a real big fan of Mike , loved his style , loved his attitude , loved his helmets!
Had my helmets painted like his!!
I met him several times when i was a kid at different GP's here in europe ,and later even at different indoor races , ( netherlands and Germany)
He was always a good guy ,( funny and always time for a chat) and had (has) a lot of fans here.
I have a bunch of great memories of him , i can tel you a lot of memories but i will keep it short.
One of them is , the GP in Halle (NL) where he broke his KTM 125 almost in half on a big table top , and still jumped the table one of the few guys who did this , Mike every lap!!! ( even whitout seat and silencer)
Later had to leave the race ( bike complete broken)
Second race he won easily!!!.
Other GP in Netherlands , he did such huge whips during time practice , have lots of pics from then i will post them asap.
At an wooden indoor race in Berlin Germany , he was racing through the stadium on KX 65 , making long wheelies ,( have also pics from there) whit his SMP pants on and his sleeves cut of the jersey , was a great show!
I later get the pants and jersey from mike , the pants i still have , to bad the jersey got lost!
And i can tell much more , only thing i now , Mike was a great guy , i am happy to read that he is doing better and has his daughter Mika back in his arms , after his Gp carrer when he was back in US and came for an indoor race here , he always spoke about here , that she was verything and had everything , not one but twice time everything!!

So Mike when you read this take care , hope to meet you once again!!

Cheers from Holland

Yep, a LOT of ass kissing on this thread. Whistling

Sorry, but Mike coming on here with his "fuck you all, I'm a punk" attitude did NOTHING to change my original opinion of him or the RacerX article.

Definantly not someone I would hang around with or let my kids hang around.

But regardless, good luck in life, Mike, maybe try to be a little less angry and 'badass'.

This is the problem with todays society. A guy hits rock bottom and instead of laying there feeling sorry for himself and probably dying, he pulls his shit together and works hard to get his live back and what do we do?? We shit on him and judge him for whats on the outside, or what comes out of his mouth. We don't see the huge amount of courage and mental toughness it takes to recover from drug or alcohol addiction.

Some people here believe others are ass kissing, but maybe they are just being decent, open minded, forgiving human beings.

he may have picked himself up, but he certainly talks like a punk. mike has to be mid 30's by now, maybe 40, old enough to at least tell the difference of appropriate tones and language when youre telling everyone how youve cleaned yourself up.

Pit Bike - you can turn your life around but that does not mean you have to change who you were before you went askew. So you are into punk rock! - I am in my mid-40s and I love old-school punk and at times still talk like I am a punk kid just for fun. Whatever helps you get through life without harming others - go for it. Coming clean for what you did to the public and making amends for what you did is a big accomplishment - not to mention facing the person you hurt the most is a milestone to recovery.

Not one of us on this board can say they are not sorry for something they have done in life—some larger some smaller. If Mike Healey was not a not a public figure and just a local novice that did the same act - we would not be talking about it. And that person could get back to their life after paying for what they did and try to rebuild their life.

I have been an acquaintance through other friends and Healey was always a stand up guy when he was not tempted by the dark side. The guy loves moto and has devoted most of his life to the sport as a racer or a riding coach before he slipped. I welcome him back and hope one day we all forgive him for his acts and let him do what he loves to do and try to make a living again.

Awesome to see MH the board facing his critics and his fans

i am not saying he is a punk because he likes punk rock; if you ever saw any of the music posts in Non-Moto Im always the first to post up punk/metal/hardcore music; its my core. But similiar to Mike I am a father, my name is on multiple associations with this sport where I have to represent myself, and I like to think Im friendly with most on this board; I try not to make myself seem too foolish and act accordingly.

makes you a punk. I really hope all is well, but if you are trying to clean up your act, that is not the best way to do it.

mike was my old trainer and I have nothing bad to say about the guy!

I trained with him from when i was 14 to 17 and had no idea about his addiction... I know he talked of the pain he had sometimes but nothing he was going through affected his work at the track.

The thing i liked about training with my mike is that he was a real dude... he'd tell me if i was being a pussy or if I was rippin that day... i knew i got honesty from him and i respected that. He pushed us and because of him i became a better rider

Glad youre doing good mike... if i make it back out to the track ill be sure to chat it up with you!

So, you consider responding to critics or even friends on Vital "serious conversation"?

I would consider this place closer to bar room banter or worse, seeing how we don't even have a face to some of the comments we read here.

On a message board, some people can be whoever they want to be and hide behind a keyboard and a screen name. They can make claims, tell stories and have no repercussions if it is bullshit because people have no idea who you are.

That is why I sometimes sit in awe that guys that have a vested interest or a "name" in the sport even reply to stuff here. You don;t see that on MLB, Nascar, NFL or any other major sports message boards.

I think Mike has every right to be himself and defend himself and I am stoked he came here to do that especially seeing how he has owned up and is trying to do better. Because he is a recovering addict means he can't be disrespectful to someone who disrespected him for all of us to see behind a screen name?

Mike was being real, typing the same way he would talk if face to face with a guy he may recognize but couldn't quite put it together. Nothing wrong with that. We aren't a court of law here.

Good luck Mike, I wish you the best.

Good post,Andy.
I've always seen these forums as sort of a sports bar in a sense. Wink
And have posted that in the past...

Obviously Mike deeply cares about what people think and that is a good thing.
If he didn't care he wouldn't have replied to anything on this forum and did interviews with RacerX or Pulp.
A lot of guys who have gone down the road he has usually stop caring and just don't really give a fuck.
Even though the odds are against him....he his headed back in the right direction.
While I don't condone the road he has taken in the past or the things he did......some people get in far over their heads before they know it.However, at least he has picked himself back up and continues to try to move forward and obviously cares.

Best of luck to you,Healey.

I got to spend some time hanging out with the "Stray Cat" in the summer of '93 after he came back from Europe. Just like others that have met him said, he was super cool, down to earth and took time to talk to every fan that approached him.

It's a shame where his life went and the things that happened because of it. He paid his debt to society, when to rehab and made amends with the person he wronged. That's good enough for me!

Ciao Mike!
As you already read there is way moooooore people ready to talk good things about you than the other way.
For your carachter I am quite sure there are not asskissing or babypowder fans here, anybody that is a real fan of you or knew you is ready to say good things about you, because the man you are:
straighttalking- truth speaking- wild gentle kind of person.

The respect is earned, and despite what happened to you there is a lot of people that maybe respect you more now than before for what you were able to shake from your shoulders!|

Everybody here in Europe has good memories about you, also your old competion, I talked with Alex Puzar about you and he said:
"Mike was a real crazy good guy! And he rode the bike so well, he was so spectacular....during the free practice I used to take close look at him because I really enjoyed the way he rode!"

Many fans I talked to remeber you as well and especially your way of riding those KTM (in 125 and 250), you really brought a new style here in Europe.

The Euro fans of my age (40) remember better you than Bolley or Maschio or King or Hansson (all people that won world Championship)

you were truly a statement in Europe and we would like to see you again!

Hope to meet you soon.....I have a lot of your stuff and pics that I want you to sign!

Stay tuned!

Go Gunner!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Mike, I seriously wish you the best. I grew up watching you, you were a cool dude back then. Im not worried about how you speak. I could give two shits less whether you swear or type as if "this is the way you would talk to me face to face". Its just a level of maturity maybe? When nearly every sentence contains fuck, its non sense to put it politely.

i dont want to sound as if to bring you down, i respect you as a rider, and i respect your recovery. I ditched a marriage bc of an ex with a heroin addiction, and she wound up in comatose in a hospital. The shit gets rough, and I hope you enjoy your new time with your daughter.

When I think of the name 'Mike Healy' two images spring to mind.

1. Having his bottom lip stapled back together after casing a table top in Austria (or somewhere like that)

2. LAUNCHING off the big downhills at Foxhill onboard his Bieffe Suzuki. Smile

The early 90's was a great era for GP racing and Mike was an integral part of it. Awesome rider.

Awesome rider.
ha ha ha Yeah!

I have a tape of that event!

It was in Belgium, 1991, Nismes if I remember right.
that tabletop was a big controversy because the landing ramp was not built in the right way and cause a "riot" from the riders that pretend to fix it right

Mike was the one always clearing it

1992, Malpensa- Italy, World Championship 1992: after the saturday practice I went in the paddock to meet him (first time), I was 20 years old, I remember that I was extatic, and had a short talk and made him sign a book with his pictures, I was so excited and pumped to meet him that he understood I was A REAL FAN OF HIM...and while I said hi to him and wish good luck for the race of the next day (that i couldn't attend) he stood up from the stair of the van and said to me:
"Wait a moment!", he went inside the motorhome and gave me his jersey!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I didn't even asked for that (pretending it was toooo exagerated to ask a jersey to my idol) and he gave it to me .....!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I remember I fell on my knees crying in happiness thanked him 2000 times!

I still have that jersey!
I see that every morning!
It's in a frame on the wall just in front of my bed!

I knew Mike as the cute boy with "Stray Cat" across his leathers at some of the southern CA races around 84/85. We had relocated from the PNW to SD for a few years and my brother Todd raced. He was a sweet guy and was on the shy side with me at the races. We crossed paths and had the opportunity to hang out a couple times again years later in the NW and although he was not the shy boy any longer and had a few tattoos by then, he was still the sweet guy I remembered and always treated me respectfully.

Hugs and best wishes to you Mike..I have a few pics I'll have to dig up one of these days Smile

I agree with your last sentence, but your 1st sentence displays your lack of knowledge concerning addiction. I agree i did not like the article, it seemed a little rushed and Healey came off as a dick. Like blaming the lady for telling him how easy it was to steal a purse or blaming a guy for turning him on to oxy's. he saiid it was his fault but why play the blame game?
Trav, the article seemed rushed indeed, but I either heard it on Pulpmx or racerxonline that they really had to edit it down to fit in the magazine and there was a lot more to it.

Maybe DC can post a full transcript before editing or something.

Hang in there, Mike. And thanks for letting Eric Johnson and Racer X tell your story. I hope it helps some kids and even adults out there who might someday come to the same unfortunate crossroads and remember your story as a cautionary tale....

DC, I know the article had to be edited quite a bit because it had to fit in the mag, is there anyway to post a more extensive version of EJ's article. I always appreciate you and EJ and am glad Mike is mending. I met him a time or two at the tracks in SoCal and he was always nice. Thanks, amigo.

Congrats Mike on your 5 yrs. of sobriety and taking direct amends to the elderly lady and any others harmed as step 9 indicates.

Wish you lifelong success in your recovery.

Having been in, through, and out of the hell of addictions I can certainly relate to Mike. I promise you...he did what he did because he was under the thumb of his addiction, and it effected his decision making process. He made some seriously poor choices, and is paying the price even now. I've paid huge prices for poor decision too, I assure you. That being said...I don't feel sorry for Mike Healey.

The idea that addiction is nothing but a chronic disease has been perpetrated by the medical community to take all responsibility for destructive behavior from the addict, and to put it on his disease. I finally found lasting sobriety when I saw how my actions...my choices were killing not only me, but people I loved around me. When I got past my selfishness and saw that, I was ready to do what I had to do to get clean and sober. Mike Healey got into trouble for what he did under the influence...and because of that, he is sober today. It takes what it takes. Everybody finds their "rock bottom" in a different way and at a different level. I'm sorry for those Mike effected by his choices...but the choices were all his and he is responsible. I hope he stays clean and makes sober choices from now on.

I'll talk to Mike and see if he has any interest in doing more. Yes DC had to to a lot of editing, there must have been at least 30 pages of text. The interview took several hours to complete. And to those of you that don't know Mike and have negative things to say , just shut it. You cannot possibly have a clue as to what led him to where he went. Mike is one of few people I would trust to watch over my kids. The guy has a heart of gold and his close friends know that.
