It must really hurt some of you that this "hero" has been exposed as a fraud. Whatever. That's your cross...

It is my opinion that Lance isn't fighting this because he doesn't want to drag this thing out and have actual evidence that cannot be produced for legal reasons become admissible or having to be subjected to testimony from close friends and associates. The USADA hasn't provided any concrete evidence yet, doesn't mean that they won't.

Lance's B samples from his 1999 Tour win tested positive in 2004 for EPO.

The same thing is happening in Athletics where Athletes are now being banned retrospectively.

The governing bodies are always going to be a step behined the sportsmen unfortunately but its not the sports that are laughable, its the sportsmen themselves for letting it become acceptable.

He's not been exposed as anything. I doubt you will find anyone that will defend him on the basis he didn't dope. Everyone knows he most likely did. I think most, like me, have an issue with how this process has unfolded. The witch hunt years after the fact is ridiculous. No matter what you think of him, the world is a better place if his legacy and foundation are left alone. He is an inspiration and a symbol of strength for many with cancer. Spending millions of taxpayer dollars to prove he doped will do absolutely nothing to clean up the sport of cycling - at most it will give shitheads like Floyd Landis an opportunity to say "I told you so" to an audience of zero.

Yeah, like most sportsmen take the long view.

What is our sport magically exempt from p.e.d.'s? Get real people... Top riders, or whoever can afford "the package" gets the trainer/doctor special. It's not fair to the riders who prefer the "natural route" and plan to live a long life, nor to the kids who are exposed. I feel most riders are totally uneducated in health and are 100% okay with what the trainer recommends to give them top performance. These guys risk their lives and push their bodies to their limits in many ways for many reasons. We have no right to tell them what to put in their bodies, they do so at their own risk and require more than you'd ever know to maintain their health. As for Baker...I will say that he has pushed the physical envelope of our sport. Good or a bad thing, I will not say.

Exactly. No one is shortening their lives, jesus. I'm not naive enough to think there isn't a chance of some riders using. But these guys are tiny, they aren't trying to be bodybuilders. The amounts would be tiny and I can tell you it's far from expensive. It's def not a case of only the top guy's being able to afford the "program".
http://www.guardian.co.uk/sport/2004/feb/16/cycling.cycling1 http://sports.yahoo.com/top/news?slug=ycn-10747311 Actually it is dangerous, and for trainers/doctors to push these on our riders and sport is wrong. If you think the deaths won't come to our sport, you're wrong again they already have. It is a matter of free will and choice. Force of drug tests will never rid them, are not enforced, and are invasive to our rights. It is up to the riders who are willing to morally abstain from detrimental synthetics, and have a strong open advocacy for healthy living while the promotion of same to upcoming generations of riders. More importantly not being ignorant about the abuse of these p.e.d.'s in the sport, speaking up and doing what's right. With a little research, and discipline you guys could increase your epo, and hgh levels naturally and take this sport in a better direction. P.e.d.s need to be included on the list for why so many are being injured IMO and trainers who promote this for their own financial gain need to be exiled from the sport all together. Same guys today promoting epo were the same guys 40 yrs ago prescribing meth to athletes.

Fraud?

If everyone uses, or doesn't use, still one guy rises to the top 7 times in a row, yes it must be he had better drugs, lol.

No, if anything it just paints that sport in a pretty bad light... nothing more.

Yes I admit I dont know much about EPO. I was referring to anabolic steroids and hgh. I will say most cardiac related problems in athlete's on PED's, you will find most of them had prior heart issues or undiagnosed heart issues. Thus my comment about use being under supervision.

If they knew about this shit, for 14 years, and never caught him, they need to go.

Give everyone immunity to catch one guy, yeah, that's the way to clean it up.

Idiots on the clock, making big bucks on the taxpayers dime, get rid of all of them.

What do they think they are, bankers and insurers or something?

Neither do I,at the end of the day cheating is cheating, and to claim they were all at it has to be a slur on some but even if most of them were doing it,it doesn't make things right,

To win knowing you're a doper has to be a hollow victory if it is true

Anyhow, many opinions could change if evidence supporting the doping claims come out in time

Lance also won the UCI World Championships (of which the TdF is just an important part of). I wonder if they plan on trying to strip that title?

There are so many sub plots and power play politics at work, that its quite transparent this is a bullshit witch hunt. The only thing more transparent is this threads intentions. There is talking about doping and then their is using doping to fish. This is the latter.

I don’t get this way of thinking that this is PROFESSIONAL sports.... how is it that you can cheat, define cheating in this scenario for me.... seriously!?

This isn’t the Olympics, why do you hold these guys in such moral/ethical light.... they didn’t sign a contract to TRY to win... they signed a contract to win.... and only to win!

Get off your moral high ground.... with most of your guys rational taking ibuprofen for a headache is cheating... or drinking coffee to “wake up” before work, or your precious monster/ red bull which is udder poison to your body... if you can effectively argue the difference between those substances and what he and many other PROFESSIONAL athletes are accused of I will concede... but I know you can’t!

This way of thinking has come of the last 20 years of everyone going to school in America and told you are all equal and everyone is a winner… did you ever once think that you were being fed a line of shit? Everyone isn’t equal and there are winners and losers in life get over it… he won 7 times on level playing field!

Great post. Especially about the "everyone is a winner" mentality being preached everywhere. At the end of every year in elementry school we had something called field day. There was a bunch of outdoor events and each grade competed against each other. if I remember top 3 got medals. i just heard now they dont keep score anymore and reward 1st, 2nd, 3rd. EVERYONE is a winner and gets a ribbon now. Funny thing is my buddy's 7yr old son tells me the kids all secretly keep score and know who the real winner's are. Thank god, winning insnt everything but every kid should have that drive

what are we gonna do 15 years from now when the drug tests are impossible to dodge and the world records of years past cannot be matched? ie base ball: 40 home runs is huge again now, and i dont think anyone will hit 74 homers in a season anytime soon....Whistling

Thanks Jeffro. I dont know about you but one of the things that attracted me the most to moto was the competition. Obviously the speed, danger, and accompanying adrenaline rush is a natural high second to none. But man, I wanted to beat my buddies! And unlike team sports, it's all on you. No letdown's because someone else didnt step up. Shoot, many a friendship was strained when we actually stepped up to race instead of trailride.Nothing that didnt get patched up quick but you def wanted bragging rights. That drive has served me later in life too. To always try and be the best, a "winner", in my career. Geez imagine if they said no one loses at moto, we are all winner's. Obviously winning at all costs isnt any better but if you're a parent that's up to you to teach your kid the differance

I think the same way Chris. Never been to much of a team player. I played football , baseball and so forth.....but my main sport in school was wrestling. I loved it and did pretty well in it for 11yrs. It sucked when my team lost.....but if you won your individual match......it was gratifying. And oh yeah......bringing back moto wins you had against your buddies from 20yrs ago.......still feels just as good today as it did right after the race! HAHA!

Saying everyone was cheating is the most pathetic exucuse ever. If he did cheat which seems, when you look into it, likely, he is a disgrace for building everything on a lie, it also makes the sport somewhat of a joke.

I don't think all the non-competetive sports crap does any good in schools either,I remember how it felt to lose at stuff on Sports Day and does make you stronger, maybe some kids can't deal with that but you can't shelter them forever

Aside from that I feel you have to have guidelines though,in my own sport the UK Sports council could turn up anytime and carry out tests, brought on because in the '80s there were drug problems of a different type and other riders' safety was a concern. These are diferrent issues but there have to be parameters in all sport, what's legal and illegal and in an ideal world the playing feild would to be level however there are always those that bend and push the rules,

I'm sure Armstrong's competitors wiould obviously all claim their innocence too,if some were indeed clean then they'd feel cheated for sure,it does seem a witch hunt weather personal or going after the number 1,maybe they do have some strong evidence that proves their claims, time will tell I guess

PED's are like A kit suspension. Costs more than what you'd normally spend, work very well for the rider that can utilize it, and are sort of required if your competitors have them.

Otherwise, start at a gate that is 5 feet back. Like golf.

Simple, really.

Not to start anything, but isn't RV anemic? And isn't EPO used to treat anemia? Again, I am not sure he's anemic, seems like I heard on tv a couple years ago about him having some stamina issues and he went to the doctor and they said he was anemic and they were working on treating it.

I conclude that he worked with Lance from this interview.

I quote from the interview:

He (Ricky #4) has always admired Lance Armstrong, and he can get an idea of the type of suffering he goes through and therefore has a huge respect for that profession. When he starts to think he is really suffering, I (Aldon Baker) can always pull out one of my training logs from ‘98 and ‘99 and show him there is a whole other dimension to suffering.

So he made training logs for Lance Armstrong not?
Are you serious with this shit? Those are Aldons logs from when he rode Pro (cycling) he never once worked with or rode on any team of Lances so USADA have no reason and will never go after him.

I've read alot of shit on this site over the years being a lurker but this post takes the cake. MXMatti you my friend are a total idiot.

I was thinking now the USADA has Armstrong do they gonna go after his former staf? And more in particular are they going after Aldon Baker? He was Armstrongs trainer in 1998 & 1999, not??? And he is still working in the US.

For the record, I been never a big Armstrong fan, but what USADA does is bullshit. I mean everyone was fighting with the same weapons back then, period.

PS: Are you guys scared of this question or something because this is a moto-question and the last time you banned this to non-moto. But a motocross trainer was involved with Lance Armstrong. The same Lance Armstrong that is now found guilty on using doping.

Coached my Michile Ferrari and Del Moral. Jim and Chris Carmichael had fuckall to do coaching any USPS team. All Chris did was coach the USA Jnr team and pump them full of roids.

I heard Lance can't stand the smell of the French so he pedals faster. They're bitter so they started this witch hunt. True story.
Wait, I'm losing the plot. The USADA is run by the French?

He tested positive for a banned substance. Key word, BANNED. Quit with the b.s. excuses.

Does Barry Bonds get a pass as well? How about Marion Jones or Floyd Landis?

If James Stewart won the 2013 SX title and tested positive for EPO after the series, the MX world would explode and you'd all be calling for his head on a stake.

The witch hunt was bullshit. ALL his competitors were doping, the playing was level. His genetics and hard work made Lance a champion, not drugs
