I gotta say.......I have been pretty dang impressed with what his season turned out like. He rode strong , stayed healthy and gave it everything he had out there.

Sure.....I know some dudes are missing , but who says he wouldn't of beaten some of those guys too on a regular basis?

The old saying : " You gotta be in it - to win it " comes to mind.

I see a lot of praise for RD going on here ( Which is well deserved! ) But I think Mike deserves some credit for having a great season thus far.

I've warmed up to Mike more this year than any previous year and I really hope a factory backed team picks him up.....OR.....Suzuki finally starts shipping some parts his / MC's way! He freaking deserves it.

He's happy where he is at ( seems grounded )........get him some descent parts for Christs sake!

And Mike.........I know you read these boards........so congrats so far man! You put in some great rides this season......and have nothing to be ashamed of! Keep your chin up! You beat a lot of guys this year with "Factory bikes"...........just keep doing what you're doing! Good things will come your way.

Jeffro you are so right on here. I was super impressed in this last 2nd moto-he fought all the way and never let Dungey get away by 30 sec, when at that point you could understand if he lost a bit of drive. He was in 2nd place by a MILE! But he kept digging-Alessi is a racer, there is no doubting that he always gives his best effort. He has had a tremendous season to date and I hope he can continue to improve is sx skills. He sure does deserve big props for his 2012 season in its entirety.

He rode great all season. His fitness & consistency have been impressive. But, he shouldn't have been conceeding / congratulating Dungey on winning the championship, before he had. It was like he was anxious to do it.

I like him, but the uncomfortable gay hug moment with RD at Washugal and his podium speeches are a little embarrassing and frankly, a little irritating.

As an expert perhaps you can tell us what constitutes a non-irritating and comfortable gay hug?

I think his podium speeches are rather refreshing and not the same robotic canned factory crap. "Answers" the questions asked to him and answers from the heart.Smile

He's certainly seeming like a new rider. Kinda pulling a Chad Reed career revitalization in terms of PR. I'd say he's ridden better at some points in the past but he's taken a lot of hard hits since then. But still damn solid. I believe he's the only rider besides Tickle to have raced every Supercross and National this year so far.

I only see Mike getting better. Great job for 2012 Mike. As for becoming a fan, well that happened years ago when I saw mike hucking the big triple on his 85 at the Fresno SX.

MA800 has finally grown up and it's showing, on the bike, on the podium and in the pits.

Is it going to be too late for some...? Sure it is.

As far as I'm concerned, better late then never.

I'm going to stay out of the line of people that are so judgmental and critical of others and probably not so much of themselves.

I couldnt believe how well he was riding that second moto. You can tell he's really dug deep all around in his life. He's a changed man and he's more than proven his worth this year.

I have always been an Alessi fan. I have met him a couple of times and he has always been a nice guy. I even used to exchange jokes with him by email his first year as a pro. I still remember the races he and RV had on Minis at Lake Whitney, Mosier Valley an Ponca. I used to drive to those races just to watch the 85 and supermini classes. I think he would be right there with some factory support or at least some A- kit suspension!

Finally made it an entire season on a 450... I hope.

I'd say not cutting the track to hug a guy, or just no hug at all.

All kidding aside I feel Chad Reed has put it best when he says the gate drops at the same time regardless of who's there or not. You can only beat who lines up.

I've been really impressed with Mike this year, especially considering his bike. Not that the MC Suzuki is a turd, the stock Suzuki is a good platform and I'm sure his bike is very good, bet its not a factory bike. He has never been a quitter, like when he was the only one even trying to take the fight to JS7, but it would be so easy when he is 20 seconds behind RD5 and 20 seconds ahead of 3rd to back it off and he never does, he keeps digging. Even if you dont like Alessi you have to give him respect for that. And how many full works bikes does he beat every weekend? Usually all but one.

I still dont think he should have been on the MXdN team though...

I feel like Tony Alessis and Mike Alessi have a similar father/son relationship as my Dad and I did. My Dad was like my trainer in my corner. Always pumping me up, always in my face, always pointing out my weaknesses and where I needed to improve, even when I was doing really good in college or whatever its was. He was hard on me and he wouldn't let me slack AT ALL. Many people thought he was too hard on me or what ever becuase he was like a drill sergent. Obviously I know there are different styles of parenting, but my Dad did it the way he knew how. My Dad passed away unexpectadley a few years ago at the age 54 and I realized at that very moment, when I went in his room and tried to wake him up, that I lost my biggest fan and the person that loved me more then I ever understood. It all made sense to me in that very moment. So I am an Alessi family fan because of that relationship. I hope Mike brings it next year.

We don't have works bikes in America anymore champ, but I'd agree he's done a good job this year.

Team Alessi is MX...both the good and the bad. I was thumbing through a RacerX from '03 and in the "Noise" column was the quote "How about that, Dan?" from an Alessi Weekly report. It reminded me of the events that helped fashion the Alessi's reputation. Ironically, Mike was and is one of the most approachable racers on the circuit, and has a true love of the sport. I think history will eventually smile on Mike (and probably Tony, for despite his issues, the guy is "core"), and this season has gone a long way in minimizing past transgressions.

Also ironic? In that same RacerX RC was asked if he had any advice for JS as he moved up to the 250's. His response? "Try not to get hurt".

Edit: Alessi's "were" the bad. This year they are epitomizing what we love about MX.

He has ridden great this year, especially on the Suzuki with no factory help (at least none we know about). I respect his riding ability. That said, I will always remember the believe the hype nonesense, him standing on Tedesco's bike looking for the kill switch till Walker (I think) pushed him off. I remember Tony and his accusations that Suzuki was giving Reed better parts. I remember him trying to plant Langston, and so on. Those two have burned a lot of bridges in MX and the factories appear to have long memories. Those two are iust reaping what they sowed.

Really? Ask Chad Reed how much different his PC was to the Works Honda he got. Yes, you have to use stock frames, cases, etc. but that doesnt mean they are not works bikes.

Also wasn't Mikey the only 450 rider to race every race so far this year?

Great post, jeffro!

Fader414, I think you are right - Iron Mike 2012!

After watching him race SX in Australia a few years ago I thought his pro ridding career was over.
He has really turned things around since then & he should be proud of his achievements.
Second in arguably the toughest MX series in the world, IMO that does deserve factory support.

Same thing I was thinking. He used to be the guy many people "hated" for whatever reason (like Chad Reed earlier in his career).

Now he has used the underdog motivation (just like Reed) to turn into a fan favorite. Hard charger start to finish, great podium interviews (nice to hear real sentences and feeling rather than robot talk), and a true appreciation for being a professional racer.

Congratulations to both Mike and Moto Concepts for making a leap of faith and kicking some ass!
