Ok so as I go through this entire bike I am happily surprised and reminded how basic the smokers are to work on. I am real curious as to mix ratios. I rode smokers for two decades and used 927 40:1 in every bike with zero failures. What would you run, and what ratio? I am 200lbs, slowing down to now about novice. these days. I ride mostly Racetown395' Comp edge, Milestone. 03 yz 250
Thanks guys.

Like others have said, when you lean out the gas/oil ratio (less oil) you are actually richening the gas/air ratio (more gas).
When your gas/air ratio is rich you have a cooler and less complete combustion which results in a lower exhaust gas temperature which is the main cause of spooge.
When I change from 40:1 to 32:1 on my YZ125 and YZ250 I can even see the blue/orange color on the bare pipes extend further down the pipe from the increased exhaust temp.
I run Bel-Ray H1-R at 40:1 with great results in my YZ250.
I know this bike was raced pro level (probably amature pro) As the suspension has fork tube stickers from 03, with heavier springs, and valving, and an AMA frame sticker on the stem. Also had a hole shot device. Then it sat for like a year out in the sun in Havasu. Then a 17 yr old kid rode it around barely off idle trail riding. So the spooge was insane all down the rear brake master and swing arm. He also ran 40:1 which I thought would cut down on the spooge. In this case I can see how it would actually contribute. I will ride the bike like it's meant to be ridden.
I think I started using 927 back in 1990 when I went riding with a friend and loved the smell. LoL. But I have heard that it does leave gunk behind. My brother in law poppd the motor on his old 91 KDX200 (man that was a fune playbike) and he told me the cylinder and pistion had crap all over it.
ktm recommend 60:1 in their 2 strokes dont they? (using motorex fully syth 2 stroke oil)
runs perfect, no spooge at all...............Smells sweeeeet
** Supposedly more power from 32-1 then 40-1 bikes on Dyno

As long as you have it torn down, be sure to check under the chain guide on top of the swingarm. Make sure the chain isn't carving a canyon!

Like you, I've been too chicken to try 60:1.
I go 40:1 or 50:1 using AVGAS, depending on the bike.
Doesn't leave any dirty crap in the power valve.
Been using it in all my bikes since the early 80's, never had a problem.
Holy shit.
