I haven't met very many Sad

but

Heath Voss is a great guy and is always nice at every local event he attends. He really does take the time to talk with every kid who approaches and will shoot the breeze with you on the starting line.

and by far the "nicest" guy I have ever met was

Matt Karlsen

He is just good people plain and simple. I think he is by far the nicest rider (I don't mean just of the pros, I mean rider) I have ever met.

Been friends ever since... even though we only see each other once every 5 years or so.

Heath Voss, James Povolny.... super great guys as well.

I forgot about Trampas Parker, ate dinner with him and his dad one time and they were both super cool.

Come to think of it I don't think I have ever had one act like a dick, Even Reed was super cool to my 6 year old a couple years back at Budds Creek- Must have been off his PMS.

Most of them I have met have been cool. Jeff Alessi one time in the Anaheim pits was screwing around when I took his picture and after he "Posed" he said something to the effect, " I hope that doesn't end up on the internet" . I thought it was funny, seemed like a good kid.
Marco Dube, very nice. A buddy of mine knew him because he used his energy supplement. So he and his partner are down from Canada at my place here and we are getting BLOTTO. Well Eddy my friend starts drunk dialing and calls up Dube' at 12:30 Am Montreal time. He hands me the phone and Dube' was cool about it. He also Called Theron Fleury that night. He was in a Ranger team meeting.
McGrath was pretty cool also when my friend was talking to him about using the supplement. We went in the semi at Anaheim about 01 or so. He was cool Semics wasn't. He was just cautious though.
I would have to call bullshit on that. Fleury never showed up for any team meetings. Unless they were being held at a strip club.

Hard question, so many guys/racers are nice, but a stand out guy who was nice and most people didn't know he was nice was Jean Michel Bayle, super nice guy. Albee is on the top 3 for me as well oh and MC and TP sheesh this is hard not to miss anyone lol. Ok all the French guys too except Pichon.

Blair Morgan or Darcy Lange.

Blair was the friendliest, but Darcy was the most fun to be around. The kid was nuts when he was younger. All you had to do was say a jump couldn't be done and out he'd go on his 80 and huck it perfect first try. He saw "doable" gaps where others saw plaster and traction. His brother was a good guy as well. I had the opportunity to stay with their family for a weekend and ride their local spots on Vancouver Island. Great people all around.

Blair was cool. He came out with us one night after an arenacross he was in town for, and we organized a game of late night pick up hockey at a local rink where my roomate was the ice maker. For a Canadian kid he sure doesn't skate very well, but we all had a blast mucking about on the ice for an hour or two.

On the motocross side RC. I have bumped into him in the pits while being a mechanic for a friend and he is nicer than many would be if they were as good as he is. A friend of mine was at the Las Vegas Open one year and everyone seemed to be crowding around Chad Reed, so my friend and RC just spoke plain as day to him w/o all the posturing one would expect, RC was a peoples champion not driving Bentleys to the Track and such.

On the off road side and OVERALL I would say Juha Salminen who raced the GNCC's a few years ago, that guy is one of the greatest off-road riders in history and to talk with him one would never have guessed. He is polite cordial, never rushed, and always makes eye contact and when you talk to him he gives you his full attention. Secondly when you see him walking around the track or pits, he is quick to give a friendly nod, wave or even the antiquated phrase "hello". The champions from all disciplines of motorcycle racing can learn alot from Juha.

I've met and chatted with most of them. They're all super cool. Pichon was about the nicest (much to the chagrin of his detractors). He invited my 13yo nephew into the K big rig and dumped all kinds of swag on him, just because he was standing there all slack-jawed while we were talking about the race. Emig did the same thing with some autographed banners and stuff for the kid. I'm his hero (and he's 26 now).

Of course, I've seen how Alby, DV, RR, Ferry, KW and some others really make an effort and go out of their way to connect with the fans. That's why they are so well though of. It really pays off.

Oh, almost forgot. Jeremy did a shout out on video to one of my friend's kids (who raced). It was real cool. We got Larry Maiers to set it up like it was a real interview question. Those kids wore out that tape rewinding it and showing to all their friends.

Larry Ward had to have been the nicest, most approachable guy in the pits. He wasn't one to always hide out in the Semi. He'd get out and talk to fans, answer questions, etc.... when he didn't have to.

RC called my stepson at a race so he could thank him for a jersey "in person" and proceded to give a phone interview on speaker phone over the sound system. My kid wouldn't turn the phone over to the announcer.

Andrew Short - shows up at the local track in Austin pretty regularly on Wednesday nights. He has a guest rider with him every once in a while, Austin Stroupe, Tucker (snow cross), etc. He parks his truck right next to everybody else. Rides the track with everybody else and will talk to everybody that approaches him.

The little kids (65s, 50s) are always asking him questions and he answers them all. He's just one of the guys riding. A very grounded guy who just loves to ride.

The other guy Ryan Dungey. I watched that guy stop and talk to more kids while trying to look at the Freestone track then all the riders combined. Everywhere you looked he was shaking hands and taking pictures, and he didn't turn anybody away when a lined formed instantly around him asking him for his autograph. Very Classy.

Lastly, McGrath - just last year at MiniMotoSX - was as down to earth as can be.

Only pro riders that I have spent more than 5 min. with is Matt Walker, Robbie Horton and Shaun Palmer. Matt and Robbie are nice guys but I met Shaun Palmer during a pactice day at Aonia-Pass MX race track here in Georgia and he went out of his way to be nice to my son and I've been a fan since. My son was around 14 y/o then and Shaun helped him with some riding tips. Shaun even gave me a rear tire that came off of his factory Honda CR250, I didn't ask for it. I think the year was 2000, not sure.

O.K. now did you guys realize there is just too many of them that qualify? You just can't begin to name them all and there's a story behind every one of them.
Miland Garrett
, anyone remember him? Won the Pro class at Mammoth Mountain one year against some big names we all know.
Rich Casselli always had a smile for anyone, even in his "bottle days" Pissed me off one time when He was going to lead us on a ride from Dove Springs and he lead straight to the Jaw Bone store for beer. I was all set for a long ride and to learn some new trails as he knew them all. Couldn't stay mad at Rich though. RIP Rich, see you soon.
Shared a camp spot with Danny LaPorte at Mountain High one time. He said he would give my son one of his take off practice tires after the race. When my kid went to get it his mech had given them all away. After the race he had his mech take off the tire he raced the 2nd moto on and give it to him. His bike went back to LA with just a rim. Another guy that always had a smile.
You know there is just too many nice guys in this sport to name just one.

Of the 50 to 100 Pro's I have met thru the years.......they have ALL been nice to me. I think if you are nice and polite to them, then they are nice and polite back to you.

But, if I had to pick just one it would be Jeff Blix, with TP199 a close second.

Larry Ward, met him at a gas station in Society Hills, SC. I had no idea where the track was and saw a truck with bikes in the back. I asked for directions and he said just to follow him. I get back to my truck and my mom says "do you know who that is? Thats Larry Ward!". Once we got over to the track, I walked over and thanked him and got some advice for the day. Great guy.

Most all of the riders I have met, in passing, seem to be great people. I got to ride a few times with Kent Howerton while I was still in Texas. Great guy with a great kid! Watch out if he decides to get more serious about racing.
