Opinons on Leatt and EVS would be greatly appreciated. Pretty drastic price diferance between the two. Is Leatt that much better?

No matter how many times this topic gets raised, I doubt there will ever be any conclusive evidence showing one is better than the other. As far as safety's concerned, I don't believe there's a way to conduct meaning tests where one could be considered "safer".

The price difference could very well be typical circumstances such as the Leatt being priced higher because they owned the market, and EVS lower in order to compete with the established defacto brand, just typical marketing. The Leatt may also be more expensive to manufacture and import, it appears to have more pieces and does it come from Africa (not sure about that one)

I've got the leatt, which I'm totally happy with, but if I was buying right now I would take a look at the EVS first, see if it wears comfortably and restricts motion in the same ways.

I prefer Leatt but that's just me. Like OldTiddler said "I don't believe there's a way to conduct meaning tests where one could be considered safer". EVS makes great products also and I don't think you could go wrong either way! Doesn't Alpinestars also make one or have one coming soon?

Isn't the Leatt adjustable and the EVS not. Leatte is supposed to be coming out with a no-adjustable for about the same price as EVS

the EVS seems like a neck donut that sits on your shoulders it wont do shit if you really crash hard

Are you looking at the right EVS product? They do make the "neck donuts" / "neck roll" product as well as an actual brace.

Their new brace hasn't been released yet, it's only available for pre-sales.

And the Leatt has been said to have broken bones.

Old Tiddler is about as spot on as can be. If the Leatt is in your budget and you are happy with it. You should go with that. If you fit well with the EVS then go with that. If you are waiting for this all to evolve some more then thats where you are at.

Its an activity that needs a crash helmet, respect it as such.

I wouldn't be surprised if the EVS never makes it to market.

Why? Patent issues?

Yes, Leatt filed a lawsuit against Alpinestars in April and it wouldn't surprise me if EVS is next.

I haven't heard of anything that'd stand in the way of the arrival of the EVS. Everything I've heard from them suggests that it can't get here fast enough for them. Smile

They look bulky to me, and I have a Leatt and I love it. I have no problems once I adjusted it to fit me right and every since I broke my neck I been having problems when I ride but once I got the Leatt, my neck dosnt bother me as much as it did. So to me it was worth the 500$.

Really? Do we need another freaking neck brace thread? Talk about beating a dead horse. Motorcycles are dangerous. If you crash you could get hurt. Neck injuries suck and I hate seeing them but these braces haven't been proven to do anything other than maybe break clavicles. Besides, does it matter which is best when only one is available?

I obviously missed the threads on neck braces. Thanks guys for your input, much appreciated. The reason I brought it up is that I just received my motosport catalog and both manufacturers are in there. Simple question Jabjr, relax....

The Leatt just helps support it more.

Why are people always telling me to relax? I am at least half as aggressive as the other guys on here, but I get a f*&$ing relax from someone who posted the umpteenth neck brace thread?

I wonder what would happen if I told you that you were asking a stupid question and you probably work for one of the companies, trying to get some input so you don't have to think to hard to figure out how to market them on your own?

Spammers are pretty easy to pick out on here, you know? I can't believe someone else didn't catch on first.

Unless of course, I am totally wrong and you are just some dude looking at neck braces... in which case, I will take your advice.

If anyone has direct knowledge that Leatt filed - or even threatened - a lawsuit against Alpinestars or anyone else, I'd like to know for sure.

i read they did file against A-stars but the court ruled in favor of A-stars because leatt patented the load dispersment areas or somthing to that effect and A-stars demonstrated to the court that its brace dispersed the forces differently than the leatt so they were allowed to continue to develop/release their product... i have heard nothing about anything against EVS...

The leatt is more advanced but 400 bucks is enough for two sets of gear, or three trips to my favorite track. I'm going worth the EVS i think.

I think it is kind of odd Leatt could file a lawsuit. Aren't they from South Africa, and Alpinestars from the Great U.S.A.? I am no lawyer, but I don't think Leatt can win. I think it is great EVS came out with a lower priced brace, and it looks good, and looks like it can offer the same protection. I can see where Alpinestars would get sued, (Leatt was in America), it looks like a Leatt for the most part. Seems weird that Alpinestars would charge more than the Leatt though.

If you go to the Leatt website, you can see there NEW entry level model that is $195. I knew that they were going to half to find a way to bring down the price. It looks like they have found a way to make it easyer to manufacture, with fewer parts.

When is the a-stars brace being released?
I hear its the most hi-tech as its adjustable up and down for different length necks
