New Alpinestars or Gaernes?

Edited Date/Time 1/26/2012 9:47pm
I cant decide to buy the New Alpinestars or the New Gaernes, i ride with alpines, and allways have. I am not going to lie, the new Gaernes look sick. What is are your opinions on the boots. Is there another boot that is worth looking into?

Just picked up a new set of A-Star Tech 8 lights from www.PrivateerConnection.com Give Chuck a call!

Nice boots but are taking a little longer to break them in than my last Tech 8's.

Gaernes are the way to go. they are a little heavier but fit better and last so much longer than astars. i have bought 2 new astar boots after i bought my sg10s (1 tech 10 and 1 pair of tech 7) and i ended up selling them and going back to the sg10s.

Gaernes are so heavy, if you can get your hands on a set of 661 hurricanes you'll fall in love. I've had a pair of tech 10's, sg10's, fox f3's... and others. Alpinestars are great but fall apart, Gaernes feel like lead boots, fox feel like lead boots, but the 661 boots are light and have held up for goin on 2 years with no sign of needing replacing, but i believe they are discontinued, but trust me they are freakin' awesome. and sweet looking...

I have pair of SG 12's currently and have owned the SG 10's and the old ASTAR Tech 8 design. I won't use any other boot then Gaernes. I don't know about them feeling heavy...they feel the same as the ASTARS, but way more room inside. The SG 12's are WAY better then the SG 10's but the price is WAY MORE! I think ASTARS are way to soft and wear to fast. Many of my friends have TECH 10's and have gone through a sol a year. Gaernes have little break in as well.

We have several of the New Tech 8 Lights in stock and ready to ship. Give us a call for the best price. We also carry Gaerne boots as well so if you want those we can get them and have them shipped directly to you. We have also negotiated a deal with our supplier to offer a special price on the latest model of the Jett J1 boots. Love my new tech 10 s, that being said the sg12 s are a great product also. Depends on your budget and the way certain boots fit your foot. Some riders prefer booties , some do not.

We have just negotiated some special pricing on 2011 standard Tech 8 boots. Very limited quantities and limited to stock on hand. Give us a call for availability and pricing. 803-980-7200. Also the new Tech 8 Light does not have the full bootie it only has a half bootie that wraps around the back part of the ankle and heel and it stays in the boot.

I had Tech 8's (old style) and just got some Gaerne SG12's, to be honest it's taking an eternity to get used to them. They feel quite cumbersome in the toe area and I'm having trouble shifting and getting a feel for the rear brake. The Tech 8's felt softer and lighter.
On the plus side, they are a cool boot and good quality. I've worn them 4 times now and I seem to be getting used to them a bit more.
I just hope once they are properly worn in that I won't need to buy new ones for a while.

I wore SG10s for several years, they were awesome, just got a new pair of Sidi Crossfires and like them even more... The AStars always felt a little bulky, not sure why... maybe I'm a weirdo, but the new Sidis are great

you said you are a dealer of the jett j1 boots, i just got a pair and the bottom buckle(not actually the buckle, its the plastic part that holds the strap in) broke. I was wondering, do you know if they have any kind of warranty? they broke after the third ride. I love the boot and would hope jett woul stand behind their product and repair or replace them.

thanks for your time

After I told Chuck at Privateer Connection about the boot problem he is looking into it.

after cleaning it does appear like it needs a larger washer under the allen screw. I am hoping Alpinestars is at the Mini O's this week and they can take care of it there.

I was in the same predicament until yesterday. I have always ran Alpinestar, so I was reluctant to stray from something I knew. The shop didn't have the SG12's, but they did have the G-React and SG10's. Both boots felt amazing from the start. I went Gaerne for next year.

This, except I wore AStars before switching to crossfires. Absolutely love them.

I wore the old Tech 8's forever, then switched to Gearne sg12, The gearnes are awsome, took about a half a day of riding to break in and they feel great. Not saying the new astars arent good, but id say the Gearnes are hard to beat..

No more Alpine
Tech-8's just aren't what they used to be. First pair ripped on right boot from normal kickstarting. Second pair soles came unglued way before worn out. As for Tech 10's. EVERY one of my riding buddies had the plastic back strap break within a year. Go with the Gaernes or Sidi for sure.

Its like the plastic part is to soft and pulls over the screw. After the A stars rep fixed it I ran my SX Heat race (8 laps) and it was popped back out when I got back. Rep said he would send me a new plastic piece when he got back to A-Star headquarters.

I have always used Tech 8s when I was racing through high school. Got back into riding a few years back and went with the Tech 7, and loved the fit and feel, but they were falling apart in about six months of riding. Went with SG10s this year, nice boot and seems to have great quality but they feel like they put tungsten in them. I wear a size 14 and have a narrow foot. A Stars always fit perfect. The SG 10 feels a lot wider and bigger For me they feel clumsy when riding, shifting and braking. It sucks to drop so much money and get such poor results. How is sizing with the Sidi's? Wide, Narrow, Run big?

Neither, get the Sidi Crossfire SRS's, your feet and ankles will thank you for it.

I would say they fit a little on the narrow size, I have an average foot width, I guess and they fit snug, but not uncomfortable. On the sizing, I have had 3 pairs of them, 2 were white, and fit perfect, 1 pair was black, and they were way to small, I had to send them back, I really think they miss marked them, because I could barely get them on and all three pairs were marked the same size.

I have heard the SIdi's are on the narrow side as well. I am 6'6 and have wide feet so I went with the Garne SG12's. Love them! Not a fan of Astar boots...to soft and always seemed to wear on me fast. Plus, the external support boots seem to have more room without that booty being in there.

Sounds like a closed case then. First I need to find more time to ride so I can wear out my G10s, Second...buy a pair of Sidi'sSmile
