O man that brings back good memorys!!! We used the rubber band in AX for years until Mike Kidd got tired of Grayson Goodman, or Chad Pederson or Jimmy Gaddis stretching that thing tight across their number plate clear down the start straight and half way around the first turn!!! I'll never forget the look on the riders faces the first time they saw that backwards falling, diamond plate aluminum monster Rigg Hipps came up with Woohoo
...and yes, bring back qualifying races!

Rupert, we may not agree on the optimum cooking time/temp needed to properly cook a brat, but this I can agree on.

I forgot why it went the stop watch route to begin with.

No more with the stop-watch, PLEASE ? Enough already. Let's bring back ^&%$#@(*&^ RACING !!!

It's SEXY, dammit.

* I've noted over the last couple years that many topics have come up here, already well addressed in the INSTITUTE FOR ADVANCED MOTOCROSS STUDIES' famous 5 YEAR PLAN. ALL the answers are in there, it's totally taboo, but - If you have not yet flipped through it, please do. Cheers. There'll be a short quiz next week, so take notes.

Sorry Rupert but I am going to have to disagree with you on this one. Even though I really respect you I do not agree. Look at some of these reasons.

Everyone gets to be in and out in one day. Saturdays for nationals are the best thing I think has ever happened. If you go back to qualifying you can't do it all in one day. I can't imagine who would like to spend more time there. Thats more hotel, food, and gas for EVERYONE.

You don't get guys who are just good starters in there who shouldn't be. I have seen guys who get the hole shot and fade to the bubble spot, get in. They shouldn't be in there. For safety reason and also someone who got a bad start that was just the fastest out there should get it. The lap times continue to push everyone throughout the entire session. The fastest guys should be out there and the lap times tell that. You will hear most people out there talking to their riders say race the track not everyone else. Thats the only way in my opinion to do that.

As far as the woman's race I partially agree. I think it gets to be a little much and sort of a runaway. I think we should take something from the Monster Energy Cup. Maybe have 3-4 smaller national series inside the AMA MX National series. Have a Woman's series, Amateur(A,B or C) series, and the super minis compete(thats 3 separate classes) for championships. Obviously they would alternate weekends they are the 3rd set of motor for Saturday. Many good things can come from this for the future of our sport. Showcases talent to sponsors, fans, and newbies that wouldn't normally see it. Kinda like a farm league for the sport to grow. I have a whole long idea about this topic but I'll just stop there. Im sure you kinda see where I am going with this.

Sorry for the long response. I would like to hear why the privateers complain of the timed practice. I don't take lack of track time as an adequate excuse. You need to do your homework at home. On the weekend be prepared to win, top 5-20 or qualify depending on your situation.

That's what I was going to say. The timed qualifying for the qualifiers used to take place on Saturday. So they'd have to go back to running the races on Sunday and even when they did do it this way, there still wasn't enough time in the day on Sunday. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see the qualifying races again, but it's not as simple as having them again and changing nothing else.

Timed qualifying is the single biggest crime committed against the sport of motocross.

*Well , biggest since the first dude with his checkbook went to the repair department with their imploded 450F.

If I wasn't so *^&$$%&%$@# BUSY occupying the tea-party headquarters in various former Arab heads of states'

Well Rup, while I agree timed qualifying sucks, we'll have to disagree about it being the biggest crime committed against the sport of motocross. That title is awarded to the powers that be that killed off the 125. Someone should be publicly executed for that one. Damn near 30 years of the best racing ever thrown down the shitter for $200,000.00 each PC 40 minute lifespan works bikes in the up and coming class. Talk about work wonders for the health of the sport.

i entirely disagree...

20 slots should be available for purchase by the team having the largest budgets.

all other places on the gates left up to a lottery system that would be available for a price, and held weeks before.

race day you have a couple of practices and race.

now that's American and sexy.

any system giving the average man a chance is pure communist.

Not that it impacts the fans that much, but one thing we should all agree on is that these guys shouldn't have to pay a freaking entry fee to race SX or MX nationals. Privateers pay $200 to go and not qualify at a SX that brings in 60,000 fans?!? Really?

Rupert it's good to hear from you and I agree totally! No more silly ass timed qualifying and let them race! Also someone mentioned bringing back semis to SX and that is a cool concept but what I would like to see thrown around is having SX adopt the format used at the MEC, three 10 lap mains with an added incentive to anyone who sweeps that night.

Permit me to clear up a few myths and misconceptions ?

1. The "AMA" has NOTHING to do with outdoor professional motocross anymore. Those bureaucrats in Pickerington, Ohio will place you in their Hall Of Fame if you win a lot. That's it. NASCAR - through DMG, licenses MXSPORTS to use the AMA name and logo in association with the series. So, now if you blame the " AMA" for anything currently in outdoor pro mx - you are blaming MX SPORTS.

2. The " RACE WEEKEND WAS TOO LONG " argument. BULL **** - Never, in my forty plus years of attending AMA National
motocross races, EVER did I hear ANYBODY - that means racers, spectators, hot-dog vendors or my buddies - claim the weekend was too lengthy. Quite the opposite. we wished it would go on forever. Okay, one person, my wife, bitches that mx takes tooo long...

3. There's " Not enough time for qualifiers no what it's a one day format !" BS. You have time to run about 4 hours of timed practice and womens races ? Come on man, try again.

4. " Everybody loves Saturday races, it is working out great !" BS - who is telling you this ? The motocross media that wants you to believe it ! Saturdays are for amateurs, Sundays for pros. Women on Saturdays. Sure, a handful of folks within the industry appreciate the ONE DAY format, but what about the other 99% ? The FANS ! And the privateers ? That's who counts, dammit. I could care less if Kevin Windham wants to fly his plane home Sunday morning.

5. More later, home for lunch.

6. Oh, you guys that TRULY believe TIMED PRACTICE is okay - sit along the fence for four hours watching timed practice - then watch some RACING - then, be truthful and tell me what you REALLY dig !

Would be really cool to do that at a select few events, and for some reason Daytona and Vegas tend to jump out at me! Pay points for each main, maybe a bonus for sweeping?
Interesting idea..

starts are part of the game, bro.

get a shitty start, good fuckin' luck qualifying.

rip a holie, you just made it that much easier on yourself.

deserved or not, if you rip a holie against everyone else trying to qualify and "fade back to the bubble spot and qualify", congratufuckinlations, you're in the main show. who gives 2 shits if you were faster than the other 30 guys or not... they should learn how to start.

i still respect you bro, just disagree.

Agree x 1000000000

The tracks develop so poorly because riders are only concerned with the fastest lap/line in practice.

Track changes every lap, not to mention riders cutting track alllll over the place. Red cross flags out for multiple laps.

So much bullshit involved, why bother?

Agreed, bring back the qualifiers. Those races are usually the best races of the day.I was lucky enough to compete in a couple of them and they are GNARLY. 4-5 laps of insanity, fun to compete in and watch.

Ok, were all talking on here, but how do we get it into the area where we can really make a change?

Do we have to partition? vote? can we take this to a federal court?, ok the last one is a bit much but i would be wiling to do it if there was a probability of winning.

we need racing all day @ supercross's
