2004+ RM250

2006+ YZ250

EDIT: RMs were made until 2008, YZs are still made.

good condition cheap yamahas are easier to find around here, people tend to pounce on the ones that aren't made anymore

Low hours is maybe the key before brand and year? Seems MXA are still all excited about the YZ250 2006-2011. Still seems many A-riders around my hoods digs the RM250. So, what these guys said above I guess! Smile

Tell us all about it after the purchase!

Not sure who made a mid 2000 two stroke ???. 50% of the japanese manufacturers didn't make mid 2000 four strokes.

Geez, some people and their short memories.

I had a 2004 CR250R. It had a very unforgiving power band. Very little low end with an instantaneous serious mid range and up. I found it harder to ride than a YZ125, and a YZ250 is much smoother with the power and more predictable with the handling. Handling on the CR was okay at best. I'll be looking for something different here soon.

I think he meant the suspension "almost works" Laughing

Anyway, I love my 06 RM250. Bought it with about 10 hours on it for 2500 last summer. From 05 up the RM and YZ are basically clones of each other as far as the motor is concerned. On the YZ, they made some big change to the forks for 06 and up so if you go blue, make sure you look real hard for an 06 or newer. Other than that, they're nothing more than than BNG from then on.

I have been looking for a 06+yz250 for so long. They are so hard to find!

Agreed...04 and up RM and aluminum framed YZs.

Why is everyone saying 06+ YZ? I had an 05 and it was sweet, didnt turn like my RM but was all around an awesome bike. I know they had better forks but it wasnt that big of difference.

The 06 forks are so much better.

Buy something with low hours. IMO the YZ is overrated and I have one. Motor is easy to ride though just not a fan of the chassis. You can make them all work pretty good just run part race or avgas.

YZ250 is the easiest to get on and ride. RM is a little nervous in the front like the KTM and both have more hit than the YZ. The YZ comes alive with V force reed block, PC pipe and silencer, open up the boost ports, get the head machined to suit the race gas you can get, jet the carb to suit and get the suspension set up (what ever bike you get foremost) by a professional and hold on tight! That will get you around 50 and a bit depending on porting and jetting.

yes

RM ends in 08 but is a 07 with BNG
YZ still going but is a 09 with BNG
CR ended in 07
KX ended in 07
SX still going and improving every year!

Even though you have $3-4k I would send $2000-2700 on the bike and the rest rebuilding the bike to your liking.

IMo still 04+rm and 06+ yz are the best to get besides maybe a new KTM

I got a line on a clean, lightly ridden, '01 RM250 for $1500.
I had an '01 RM125 and loved it.
How was the 250?

Wow secondhand bikes are cheap in the USA, I bought a new Rm 250 last week for $7200 ,a nice secondhand 250 would cost at least $4-5000 ......and the aussie dollar is worth more than the US dollar.
