The mistake C.P. made was signing with the team that is not suitable for him.
Walking away was the right decision under the circumstances, all the best to him in the future and I am still a big fan, as well as many other riders that show the ability to ride a motorcycle in a way I can only dream of.

Yes true. No excuses but I think D.V. should not air the teams dirty laundry on twitter, if a manger was acting is this way I dont think I would want to communicate with the team either. I dont know D.V. but dig him as the champion rider he is, however as a manager he is supposed to be the more mature composed manager dealing with the younger less mature riders supporting them not belittling his team members, this makes it a no win situation for both sides.

A better comparison would be where did the rest of Motoconcept team finish.
I haven't followed Tommy Hahn that much. 10/7 pretty much on par with what he has been doing in previous years?

JGR has been at it for a few years now. They have their bikes dialed in.

Moto Concepts on the other hand don't have the time, or abilities to do such great things in such a short period of time.

Moto Concepts may not have the bikes dialed in yet, but KYB and Yamaha do, and thats who was setting up Pourcel's bike.

Lets face it, D.V. never wanted Pourcel to begin with, he thinks he is lazy. Yamaha and Mike Genova made him and it ended the way DV told them it would.

You are speaking over my head UpTiTe. I don't know DV that well, but I do know that this whole thing was a time bomb from the start. .

It takes time (KYB and Yamaha or not)to set up a bike for a specific rider. Going from a PC Kawi to a MC YZ is a huge difference.

No harm, no foul from either involved. It just didn't work out as planned.

I agree 100% that it takes time to get a bike dialed for such a specific guy, but its not like Enzo and the KYB guys are chumps. They completely changed Stewarts bike in a weeks time and had him looking 100% better in 09.

I guess I'm saying that if Pourcel wanted it, he could have achieved it, he has mad talent. IMO he was out of shape and didn't want to take the blame, so he is looking for a way to shed the blame so he doesn't come off so bad to other teams.

Hahns results
Hangtown Moto 1 8th moto 2 8th 7th overall
Freestone Moto 1 12th moto 2 16th 14th overall
Hahn striped Pourcels ass the first two rounds. Don't think he was worrying about the bike killing him.

There is no comparison.

Getting off of a PC Kawi, then throwing a leg over a MC YZ is a very big difference.

This would take some time, and a lot of work.

Pourcel's bike is 100% factory equipment, not even inthe ball park as Hahn's, he should be doing fine.

I agree with that but is it enough difference to make a rider quit? Lets say something happened and one of the top five had to go to mcy do you think they would fall behind Hahn? And I'm not taking anything away from Hahn he's a bad ass who has two top ten finishes this year and could make it into the top five. We both know that you nailed it with your last sentence and it seems this is something Pourcel wasn't willing to do.

What's the common denominator? :-)
It is obvious that if a team manager and a rider don't see eye to eye things go down in a hurry.

thats what I was thinking. We know that he tested with geico and with moto concepts, maybe some other teams. If he was afraid of the bike killing him, how did he not see this in the test ride? Did he even bother testing the bikes or did he just ask everyone to send their highest dollar amount and he would sign with them

I think thats the problem - he liked the Valli Yamaha that he tested, but he didn't test the MCY bike at all. Probably just assumed it would be similar.

This whole 'I don't want to kill myself' deal has been taken a little too literally by people on here, its only a turn of phrase, and spoken by a French person trying to explain in English that he doesn't feel comfortable with the suspension.

So why the fuck didn't he stay in California to test and make the thing better? That is what he is CONTRACTED to do. This thing about the bike is bullshit. He picked the bike after riding other bikes. he picked the team after speaking to other teams. The only way to make the bike better is to ride it, test it, and race it. He isn't do at least 2 out of these 3 things.

The team, just like the fans, expect him to compete, ride the bike the best he can, and continue to improve as the season goes on. If he does that, then all is swell. But no, he severely underestimated the pace, severely underestimated his own fitness and ability on a 450, and ran off to make excuses. He is 100% at fault and should be held accountable for his non compliance.

The bike? Please.

I agree, he should have stayed in California to test and get the suspension sorted out... BUT... how do you know the CONTRACT agreement from the start wasn't to head back to Florida with his test bike and sort it out there himself which is what he said was the plan and what DV has even stated in a previous interview. Villopoto etc were perfectly able to test in Florida prior to High Point.

You're just presuming that he 'severely underestimated the pace, severely underestimated his own fitness and ability on a 450'. You're also presuming that everything is exactly as MCY tells it - How do you know Pourcel isn't the one who has been let down for one reason or another? How do you know he wasn't promised things when he signed the deal that haven't materialised? If he speaks out he could find himself getting fired.

What MCY has said may very well be an accurate account of what happened, that Pourcel simply flew off to Florida and shut off communication. Even with a pic of Pourcel as my avatar I'll happily concede that could easily be the case, that Pourcel has been stupid. I have no problem with MCY or DV and like most reasonable people I would much rather see them sort this thing out so together they can put Pourcel on the podium. But so far, due to Pourcels tendancy for keeping himself to himself we've only really heard one side of the story and so the public, having no alternative, naturally sway towards the party who is making the most noise.

So other riders on MotoConcepts bikes are able to get respectable results, but not Pourcel.

Other riders riding Yamahas on other teams are able to get repectable results, but not Pourcel.

Other riders were able to come to terms with teams and get rides for the just-ended supercross season, but not Pourcel.

Other riders have switched teams and bikes and continued to honor their contracts, but not Pourcel.

Other riders have been available to test and communicate with their teams and managers, but not Pourcel.

Yep, apparently the problem is NOT Pourcel.but the bike/team/manager/suspension/fans/food/climate/language/insert variable here.

LeBigUSA.com: What is your situation with MotoConcepts when we are on the eve of the third test of the outdoors at High Point?
Christophe Pourcel : The situation is unfortunately rather complicated. It's been two weeks since I expect to receive a motorcycle drive home in Florida since my return from Texas. DV tells anyone who will listen that he sent it but obviously he had to go wrong address because I still have not received anything. I got a phone call today informing me that a carrier's Yamaha had arrived in Orlando but was blocked by the sender (MotoConcept). I can not get it.

Why have not you got your motorcycle training before?
I do not know. My return to Florida was expected after Texas. If the job was done properly I would have got my bike training on Monday for the same work. It is not possible to go outdoors without a test drive for two weeks in particular that there are many adjustments to make. As everyone now knows I am not comfortable on the bike. This is not normal.

Why did not you stay in California to test and try to find solutions?
I stayed four weeks in California expressly to find the right settings on the Yamaha I did not know at all. It was for people who know her for years to direct me in the right direction because the chassis is really special. I tested all these long weeks. I do not see what that would bring me back more than four days in California before a race on the East Coast.

Communication with DV is it broken?
Not especially. Say he is the manager MotoConcepts and I have no bike to ride. Communication or not I can not go to.

Sign with MotoConcepts he was finally a bad choice?
I think it was a good choice, especially with the support of Yamaha factory but my style is really different and does not correspond with the current bike.

You will be tomorrow at the circuit in High Point?
I'll be home in Florida.

This was done on Friday btw.

I think the question comes down to how comfortable the rider feels on the bike. Some guys have different riding styles that complement different bikes. For example, James said he knew Reed wouldn't jive well with the Kawasawki because he knew the bike needed to be ridden very aggressively.

good point..... problem is with CP;

how can you gel with a bike at race pace after doing 17 minutes of testing?
How can you demamnd your salary and not show up when your team wants you to test more, which you say you want to do, but wont pick up the entire shop to goto florida?
No practice bike? Well, hmmm... you have been on the team 4 weeks now, and the plan was cali to continue testing, but you up and decide for yourself to goto florida and forgo testing. Suck it up.

I have been a big CP fan and supporter, but this soap-opera bs by him and his former agent... imo it proves kawy hired the right guy in Jake, proves CP and camp were pricing themselves out of a ride by wanting RV money, then as rides dried up wanting Trey money, and when no rides where left, still holding out. CP went with the money, on a GOOD team, then didnt want to work with the team, so he cry-babies out. Pretty simple.

Maybe having a guy as a team manager that has str8 up beat legends, shoots straight, and is honest doesnt work well for a self elevated prima donna.
