Wd40, spray paint, or contact cleaner?
I read a lot of good things about wd40, but 24 hours later and the outer clutch side still moves pretty easily. Using Renthal grips. Not sure if that matters.
I use to use spray paint on my bmx bikes years ago. Once it setup it was rock solid.
Home Depot gorilla super glue
Tie wire
Clear spray paint. Let it dry for a little and then wire them up to be safe.

3m window weld with wire seems to do very well for me
Lock-on grips. I was skeptical, but glad I went that route.
Straight gasoline always worked best for me. Maybe 20-30 minutes to completely dry.
I think what works, and how well, depends on the particular grip compound though.
I went to ODI lock-ons and have never looked back. Wish I did it years ago!

I have a theory that I’ve been meaning to test. I’m pretty sure Renthal grip glue is nothing more than Elmers Rubber Cement at 10x the price.
Man, I'd hate to be the guy at the factory sucking all that elmers into the little single use tubes!
I usually just put them on dry, poke a small hole in the end with a pick or screwdriver and use an air gun to shoot some air in as you slide the grip on, work any trapped air out and then safety wire.
Clean the bars with brake cleaner ,then use this and you'll never ask about grip glue again. Let it dry then safety wire . About $25 can ,but probably does 50-80 grips. I've tried every method and this put an end to the research
My recipe has always been brake cleaner to help the grips slide on, then a double wrap of safety wire in 2 places.
How's the cleanup and prep for the next set of grips? Do you need an air chisel to remove the grips and tons of bionic gunk or just throw the bars and throttle tube in the trash?
Believe it or not its pretty simple and clean. Between me, my daughter and son in law and our 15 bikes we race regularly, I'm doin at least one set a grips weekly. Especially for them--they use those super soft white ODI grips that last about 6 motos or 2 XCountry races . If it was a big pain in the ass to remove ,I'd certainly keep the research going, lol. I haven't found anything that works nearly as good
Nice good info. Most grip glues that hold well.. also hold well when you want them off.. lol
Nice, I’m going to try this. You spray it in the grip and on the bar?

Love Renthal products but the grip glue sucks. It’s messy and doesn’t work well. I have used every amount, and always wait a day to wire the grips, and I never get a great hold.
Yes--I spray a small coat on the bars, and some inside the grip. Use a big piece of paper or cardboard on the opposite side of the bars when you're spraying to catch any overspray, you don't want that shit going on your seat or plastics
Anyone try the gorilla glue spray adhesive? I actually have a can on hand.
Yep--- it sounded impressive and I like the Gorilla brand duct tape, and its not horrible but it doesn't do the job of the 3m 90. The Gorilla spray seems to be very affected by temperature and humidity. It worked good for us if the temp was 70 and low humidty , but as things get warmer/moister ,it never seemed to set up and "grip" well enough
Thanks, I’ll order the 3m!
How long does this take to set? Two hours in and the grips are still slippery. Any tips for application?
To be honest, I've never timed it. It seems that I usually do grips at night and by the next morning ,they are locked solid and Im safety wiring them. Although I have put a new set on once at the track before sign up and they were ready to go by the first practice. Did you clean both surfaces with brake cleaner or similar ?
Yup! They seem to be tightening up now actually. Maybe I just used a lot and it took a bit to dry and tac up.
I’m liable to use anything. Gorilla glue, spray paint, spray adhesive whatever. I think as long as you safety wire it doesn’t matter what you use.
I must really suck at this. 3M spray never worked for me. Electrical tape and contact cleaner was a bit better, but still not a great hold; maybe gas would work better.
I was cleaning my bar, and realized there was a TON of glue on the inside of the bar. I think I was too heavy with the glue inside the grip, and not enough on the bar last time I did it. I just tried again with a lot of glue on the bar.
I also think that the clutch side on the Renthal bar, since it's textured and not smooth, actually makes it harder for grips to stay on there. I think it actually helps with lock ons, but I hate the end of lock on grips. I hope Renthal comes out with some lock ons that feel like their glue-ons.
Hairspray and safety wire.
I've been on the spray paint program since grade 7.
