What's up, dudes?

I like to think of myself as sort of a modern-day renaissance man. In other words, I know a little bit about a lot of things. I'm also an expert on a few. (These are probably the reasons why I come off as such a damn know-it-all!)
However, there are some things in life I am simply not good at. These really piss me off, because one of the things I'm good at is applying myself to figure out how to do anything- therefore when I still can't get it, I'm really frustrated. I thought the forum may have similar thoughts and we might all get to know one another a little better if we lay our weaknesses out on the table. So, without further ado, here are some of mine that really make me disappointed in myself:

Math.
For as good a student as I was, and how smart I think I am, I cannot fully grasp the concepts of mathematics. Seriously, I feel like I'm missing something crucially important and alarmingly simple, like we should have learned in 2nd grade, but maybe I was absent that day. Believe it or not, I kind of wish the "common core" BS was taught when I was a kid, because maybe I'd have done better. The late-'70s approach of flash cards and "do it fast" did me no favors.

Waterskiing.
I can (sort of) ride a skateboard down a sidewalk. I can snow ski. However, I have never once even gotten the tiniest fraction of "out of the water" on a single ski, wakeboard, double ski, wake/surf, or any other planing contraption known to man. This is after multiple days and multiple, multiple attempts on each of those days. Again, I feel like there is something totally rudimentary that I'm missing.

Meeting people/ being sociable.
Every girl I met in the '90s friend zoned me immediately, but later wanted me to date their friends because I passed inspection. I really have no idea how I was able to win my wife over when we met, but thank goodness I had friends who introduced us, or I'd still be single! Even in a non-romantic setting, I cannot strike up a conversation easily. I simply don't know what to say. I definitely have at least a mild case of social anxiety disorder. I've been known to Irish Goodbye at parties. It's weird.

Let's hear yours! (Unless your weakness is in revealing any weakness, that is. In that case, I understand. 😆)

Being better at biting my tongue...

(EDITED for clarity.)

...and like Falcon, I'll add math,  I was never good with numbers.

Too many to list.

Taking time to learn new shit out of my comfort zone is #1

Bad-I can't do electricity. I'm terrified of electrocuting myself.

Good-I can swim like a fish. Love swimming.

Good- I am hyper aware of my surroundings. I see everyone around me and notice everything

Bad-I am hyper aware of my surroundings. If I am in a crowded room trying to have a conversation with someone I have to stare at them and lock in otherwise my brain will try to hear EVERY conversation that is going on around me at the same time.

Bad- Losing my shit when driving sometimes because everyone on the road is an asshole except me.

Opinions. I can just look at someone and tell if they are being judgmental.

Bourbon. Its usually a fantastic idea. Until the morning.

As magoo fan already mentioned, biting my tongue off when I have to make sure that others need to hear my unsolicited views as soon as possible.

Good-as I’ve aged I’ve learned to appreciate so much and live in the moment. Life changing.

I learned to cook and really enjoy it.

Appreciative of my good friends and family and let them know on a regular basis.

Not the most patient individual.

Difficult giving up control.

Its the LEO in me, but always "on".  Facing the door in public,  knowing my exists,  a quick summary of everyone i see and possible intentions.

Tend to jump nose high on a dirtbike Smile

Math always came easy for me until..................Calculus, both of them.

Integral Calculus is the branch of calculus where we study integrals and their properties. Integration is an essential concept which is the inverse process of differentiation. Both the integral and differential calculus are related to each other by the fundamental theorem of calculus.

Differential calculus deals with the rate of change of one quantity with respect to another. Or you can consider it as a study of rates of change of quantities. For example, velocity is the rate of change of distance with respect to time in a particular direction. If f(x) is a function, then f'(x) = dy/dx is the differential equation, where f’(x) is the derivative of the function, y is dependent variable and x is an independent variable.

I’ve never been much in a social setting. Wanna talk Moto or stock car racing? Pull a chair up and we’ll talk all night, that’s basically all I’m good for socially. I don’t know what the fuck small talk entails.

Navigation. I am completely useless and could get lost three blocks from my own house.

Also terrible at math. Luckily I can write really well.

Remembering people's names

I used to think that I was decent at math, but then realized I was only a little bit good at arithmetic. I stopped being able to truly help my oldest son with math after the 7th grade, and he went on to show me what being good at real math is like!!!

Weaknesses are too many to list, and too dependent on the moment.

Conversation, small talk, I’ve got a great personality. ( so I’ve been told🤦‍♂️) I just don’t want to talk to people. Don’t like crowds, I’m looking for a exit. Fore Play, weird! When I was younger sure, now I just want to go at it!🤣

Remembering pretty much anything I am told.

If I read it, pretty good chance I will remember.

If I write it down, pretty much guaranteed I will remember (without looking at what I wrote).

My wife knows, I need a list in writing (grocery, honey do, whatever).

But someone tells me their name, 1 second later I could not tell you what they said.

But I still remember every phone number, address, etc. that we have ever had (from like 50 years ago when I was just a little kid).

The weakness I have that bothers me the most is that I have close to zero creativity. Don't get me wrong, I have many others and most likely some that are way more important to most people but it is what I most wish I had. If I could practice or do research and learn it, I would have it.

Electronic devices, especially phone apps, buying tickets on your phone, paying for parking on your phone, downloading apps, trying to travel when everything is on your phone, plane tickets, rental car, hotel room, food orders, the only thing I can do on my phone is make phone calls and text. When we travel my wife handles all that shit. The fact that I FUCKING HATE IT probably doesn't help. I miss picking up the phone, talking to an actual person, having a ticket in my hand, not on my phone...lol  I know I know "I'll take things old people say for 100 Alex"  And now that my whole business is shifting in that direction I hate it even more because it's getting crammed down my throat and I feel like an idiot. I walked into a new pool the other day and I couldn't turn the pump on because I didn't have the right "App" on my phone..... wtf it's a stupid pool pump let me just turn the piece of shit on.... San Diego SX last year, my daughter "Sent" me my ticket and parking pass, I wound up paying 100 bucks to park (50 to pay her back and 50 because for some fuck all reason it wasn't "Reading my phone" or some shit. I CAN'T STAND that every mother fucking thing is on our phones now.  Plus like I said I'm reluctant to learn because the second it doesn't work I get instantly pissed because I truly believe it's absolute unnecessary bullshit.

Strengths ? I'm (well used to be) fairly good at most physical things, not "Great" but competent.  Surfing, bodysurfing, skateboarding, skiing, (never snowboarded) water skiing, bmx, I can ride a unicycle, motocross, I can ride wheelies, I have good balance and am fairly coordinated.

I can talk to almost anyone, I enjoy meeting new people and can usually "Fit in" to whatever group I'm surrounded by. I have no problem talking to new people, safe to say I even enjoy it.  But if we need to download tickets on our phones to get into to some event ? Fuck it I'm out.. 😄

Someone told me one time the secret to remembering names is to look at the person and say their names 3 times in your mind and train your brain to associate their face with their name. It doesn't work but it was a nice thought. 😄
