I was listening to a NBA pregame show this morning and one of the 2nd year players was talking about his diet and that he had cut out candy and fried foods. How does someone get to that level of professional athletics and no has noticed that kind of a diet? Can you imagine any pro individual sport where that could happen? No serious amateur in MX has that kind of a diet. Pretty sure if you go into pro cycling, skiing, track and field, ect no one has either. I know that this countries best athletes gravitate to football and basketball but that was was just shocking to hear. Is that widespread in the team sports?

JS7 told tiger woods he drank a Dr pepper and a snickers before a race.
Guys get by on talent a lot of times, especially in the nba.
Coke and a snickers is a common post meal for endurance athletes. We would see better racing if more athletes ate worse and trained less.
Glycogen replacement, yea I get that.
Guys do train less... dungey did more solo than he ever did with aldon.
Eating a snickers before or after a game or race is one thing, candy and fried food as part of your regular diet is another.

DeCal Works Huge Plastic Inventory of UFO and Polisport kits.
He also said in an interview once that while Ricky was training his ass off and on a strict diet, he was eating powdered donuts and still beating Ricky.
i thought i was the only weird one that loves snickers and a dr pepper 😂
Genetics, my man. Genetics.
I think you have a distorted view of what a lot of individual athletes diets look like. Why would they ever tell you they eat like crap? If you're training a lot you can consume a lot of calories and it really won't matter all that much. The extent of benefit to be had by eating this or that perfect diet is way overstated and a lot of placebo and sales pitch. Not saying there's nothing to be gained, but once you've gotten to the point where you're not carrying extra weight, you get diminishing returns in a hurry with strict diet.
I remember that.... he never did beat him in the two years he had, series wise.
*chewing pizza roll* wow what an unhealthy diet
Yep Championship's bonuses say otherwise LOL
Don't google what Gretzky #99........the all time Goat loved his McD's and hotdogs between periods
Yeah, Ricky always won out in the long haul. Wasn’t like Stewart was dominating him in individual races either. It was an odd comment. lol
Yeah his pregame meal was 4 hot dogs washed down with soda . Michael Jordan liked to eat McDonalds .
The is something to be said for "A happy athlete" is a winning athlete -
The greatest Olympian of all time had a rather interesting diet...

A snickers and a dark beer. Oh Yea
Its just a numbers game. Someone like Kenny could eat nothing but 3000 calories of Big Macs and Cokes, but if you're absolutely training your ass off and burning 5000 calories a day it aint gonna matter what you eat as you will end up burning 2000 calories. These top guys are probably always in a calorie deficit from training so it isnt going to matter what they eat as long as they burn more than they take in.
Pit Row
Wasn’t an odd comment at all. Individual races also count…
JS7 beat RC in far more individual Sx races than vice versa.
90% of a supercross main has a pretty shot diet.
There is a BJJ multi world champion, Mikey Musumeci and he only eats Pasta and Pizza and only once per day (but around 5000-7000 calories). I thought that was super interesting. He also is shredded/lean to the bone. There are definitely some strange people out there with crazy genetics..
Ricky usually got the better off James in the outdoors tho, which is more about fitness than SX
You know Ricky was sneaking junk food here and there tho, Mitch caught him one time if I remember right
James' technique allowed him to get by physically. I can't remember which interview it was, but someone was talking about James doing a standard fitness test and doing pretty poorly on it. His technique and skill made up for a lot of the brute force someone like RC had to train for.
My guess is that they were probably not eating that much ‘candy and fried foods’ during the season anyway, but that they carried it over to the off-season as well. It’s amazing the amount of work that NBA guys actually do during a season, and how much caloric intake that they end up needing. Most teams have extensive nutrition programs as well, but also account for the sporadic steakhouse dinners with all that goes along with it.
There are obviously outliers, like James Harden, who probably eats whatever the strip joint menus have on them, but the vast majority of NBA players follow fairly structured and personalized nutrition plans, especially since most teams will pay for the nutritionists and the meals.
I think that ‘pretty poorly’ would be a very relative term in this scenario. If I recall, James was a big road bike cycler for most of his career, and it wasn’t like he simply sat on the couch between races. He may not have always been doing the same programs as the other top racers, but he was likely always in the top 10% of athletes in overall fitness. That is only ‘poor’ when comparing him to someone like RC who was probably in the top 5% in his fitness prime.
I remember an off season competition of athletes from different sports back in the 70's. Big name football and baseball guys mainly. Jim da Jammer Weinert got in on it once. If memory serves, pretty rare anymore, he won the endurance events. Boat rowing and bicycles.
Lackey used to put on a few pounds in the off season. I think the older guys tried to time their training to peak at a certain point in the season. 40 + 2 motos probably took a different approach. In his book, Lackey spoke about carb loading. I wonder if that is the method today? As skinny as some of the guys are it makes me doubt it.
I was in the car behind him at Burger King once during Daytona SX lol. Race day cheat day - sometimes u need what makes u happy lol. Feel good - ride good
some of the best sports people ever where alcoholic s and drug addict s and the time of competing . The difference is they were insanely talented. I know pro rugby players who drink and eat crap even during the world Cup. Point is some can get away with it .diet is very important, but probably not as important as some think it is .in certain sport s alway . Bolt eat mc nuggets right before winning the Olympics gold and breaking the world 100 m record.
Yeah, perhaps he ate some McNuggets right before the race, but I’d bet that they weren’t a mainstay of his diet for the previous 4-6 months leading up to the Olympics…..!
