Damn shame.
That was the voice I looked forward to hearing every weekend while watching the races with my grandfather as a kid.
RIP LEGEND.

Rest in peace Art

One of, if not the most, iconic voices in SX and MX. RIP Art!
Oh man, that sucks! RIP Art Eckman
He's a major part of my favourite era of MX
RIP Art. Like SoCalMX said, a piece of my childhood is gone now.
Sorry to hear this. RIP Art
Wow. RIP. Loved his announcing. His voice was the sound of Mx and Sx calling when I got Into the sport. Can hear him now. Thank you Art!
I dug out some old VHS tapes of some old races on Friday, Nov. 3rd. Took me back to my childhood hearing and seeing Art and David Bailey. So I googled what Art was up to nowadays as well as his history. Not what I wanted to hear today.
RIP Art. I'll cherish the memories.
RIP Art. Truly one of the best. Art and David Bailey were a fantastic team!
Good memories! RIP!
RIP
RIP Sir,
I wasn't a huge fan of Art when I was a snotty kid back in the day- I didn't think he was "cool." Over the years, as I saw more and more other announcers, I realized how good he was, how exciting he made the racing seem. All respect to this legend. RIP.
The one true "bar-to-bar." He was a little before my time, but I've never not enjoyed hearing him whilst watching old coverage. RIP
Art and Dave were the announcers back in the day when we could scrounge VHS tapes of the races over here in Australia...and the very rare race broadcast on outlets like Wide World of Sports.
RIP Art
We're getting to the point where we're losing the pillars of this sport.
RIP Mr Eckman.
Pit Row
The most iconic voice of my childhood. RIP Art.
The voice of many of our childhood and young adult lives. Goodspeed, Art, and we thank you!
I've been rewatching old supercrosses while working out. Literally last night I was watching the 1999 Anaheim Opener and Art Eckman's voice filled me with such nostalgia. As the race went on, I was blown away with how good he was. I didn't really appreciate it as a 12 year old watching races, but now it's readily apparent how good he was.
RIP Art, thanks for the memories.
Great memories watching the races he called . RIP Art .
I remember meeting Art while walking the track the day before the very first Endurocross in 2004. I was looking the obstacles over and Art walked onto the arena floor and towards me and my buddy. I said "How's it going, Art?" and he came right over and shook my hand and said "Hey, it's great to see you again! I can't wait to watch you ride tomorrow!" Then he stood there and shot the shit with us for 5 minutes or so.
After he left us, my friend said how damn cool it was and asked why I never mentioned that I knew Art Eckman- I told him that I didn't know Art and that was the first time I'd ever met him.
What a great dude.
True legend of broadcasting.
RIP Art.
Definitely, the voice of my favorite era. RIP.
I can hear his voice in my head right now announcing the races. RIP Art
If you grew up listening to the 90's and early 2000's supercross he was the Voice of Supercross. One of the best to ever do it. Really sad to hear his passing. I'll never forget when he was doing trackside interviews for the old Supercross Live stream. Not a video feed, just the Live Timing and Scoring chart with the commentators audio at the track with few bike sounds in the background. It was at the 2003 Houston SX, Reed had just won his 2nd race in a row against Carmichael. Art got to Carmichael immediately after he got off the track. Art said something like "Ricky, its not a win but what did you think of the race?" Ricky responded pissed and out of breath with "What can I say? The fkn night's over." Art had to go to someone else because of him swearing. It was the first time I had heard serious frustration from Ricky getting beat. I wish someone could find that audio. It was funny to hear a rider drop the F-bomb for the first time that I can remember.
RIP Art....
I lived in Atlanta in the mid to late 80's and Art was the local sports anchor for an Atlanta TV station and I remember he always had something to do with motorcycles on his broadcasts as he was an avid road bike enthusiast, so when he started doing the SX broadcast it was a "hey I know that Guy"....RIP Art you were the best.
Nothing but respect for Mr.Eckman, both as an announcer, and even more as a human being. Rest In Peace Art .
