Ive found myself going to pulp, vital or twitter more and more to find industry news. My go to use to be racerx for years but it seems other media is always one step ahead of the game. There use to be some great reads on the website as well but those have lacked recently too. Also vital has really stepped up their game the last two years so that could be a factor as well.
Yup
The RacerX YouTube channel is probably my most watched moto video feed. They put out a ton of quality original content all the time, nearly daily, and their website is the best (IMO) to look up race results, past and current.
RacerX and VitalMX are my go to online websites and YouTube channels for moto news/entertainment. PulpMX, Main Event Moto and VitalMX podcasts are my go to moto audio entertainment. I don’t think any media company has pivoted better than RacerX going from printed to online media. Twitter isn’t a moto media outlet so I don’t why you’d include it as the stuff you see on Twitter probably comes from the aforementioned brands. If I ever want to search an injury report update, RacerX is typically the only website that comes up and it has a detailed article on it.
I would say RacerX is leagues ahead of every other Mx magazine in todays digital age and is actually one of the best outlets for up to date moto news. Vital is also on the front line of original content and “breaking” news.
70 percent of the moto news hits twitter before it hits the websites and its coming from reputable industry guys is why i mentioned it. Weege imo keeps racerx alive with his shows.
That’s how it is in every sport though. That’s what Twitter was designed to do. Is ESPN “falling behind” because Twitter exists? They’re two different forms of media, IMO.
The Shop
I’ll keep a Racer X print subscription as long as I can. There’s no substitute in my opinion for reading material while on the throne. Print Cycle News used to be in the stack too.
Most news hits twitter/X before mainstream news sites nowadays. Journalists scour twitter/X for news, not the other way round.
Racer X is falling behind" then "I go to PulMX" (a RacerX employee owned outlet...)
Twitter? Isn’t it called X now? WTF Elon.
RacerX/Weege show is probably my favorite moto content on YouTube. It's not as "behind the scenes" and news-breaking as Pulp or X, but I think it's enough to keep them going. They're also great on X to follow along during race days, and have cool merch.
If RacerX is falling behind it's because they are having to carry all that dead weight of Matthes.
The racer x YouTube is the best …Weedge pre and post shows are next level be hide the scenes stuff I love the most.
You realize steve usually posts any news to his social stuff before it hits Racerx right?
I stopped looking RacerX about 4 years ago. I only check VitalMX forum for latest news.
Have thought RacerX has been behind for a few years. Racer Head is like reading Cycle New from the past week when you know the finish.
You're painting them in a bad light but what is the alternate that is doing better? RacerX posting an article and "bigboyonadirtbike69" posting a random thread on a forum do not hold the same weight. You gotta realize we are the constantly online fans that read everything from every corner of the internet the moment it comes out. So while we can chuckle when we see a PR statement saying "Cooper Webb to Yamaha" it will still be breaking news for people that just look at the headlines on outlets like RacerX and the like.
As much as I hate it, message boards/forums are outdated. We're old heads grasping onto what we know and like, most people aren't gonna go scroll through a forum to see the most up to date moto news.
Something about Racer X had always had a different feel to it. Kind of like a way of reporting more fan friendly behind the scenes interview.
Racer X doesn’t really shake up what they do too terribly much but what they do is solid, reliable, and always a part of my daily check in at least during the season.
You know phones are mobile now dude, you can take them wherever you like and look at stuff👌
Kidding, there is something about looking through a legit printed magazine.
Vital and assorted YouTube here (not the clickbait dickheads like Kooksie and Walter White-hair or whatever his name is) with a tiny bit of Instagram sprinkled in. I thought Twitter/X was just for politicians and old folks now, doubt RacerX are worried about that specifically.
Pit Row
RacerX is the Tiger Beat of motorsports.
I dropped my subscription to RacerX after Davey's MAVTV deal. Fuck that guy.
I’d humbly recommend a complete, ground-up overhaul including new name, logo, color scheme, and layout style (both print and UI). I think it would pay dividends if they took this on.
Their layout and content is “noisy”, distracting, and bright. They should slow it down, go for a less is more aesthetic, similar to the long-defunct magazine that inspired RacerX from its inception.
I dropped my sub after they hired Cox, and that was before we knew Cox was an actual lunatic. He was just a dbag back then. Lol
You’re so cool.
I subscribe to both print Racer X and MXA. MXA is still great but the Racer X mag is a shell of its former self
This really dates me.. As a kid...I got DB then MXA then...when I started hauling hay/pulp wood...I bought everything that had a dirt bike on the cover or inside. I was a junkie and I didn't care.
I absorbed every shootout, every feature test, every tech section. And I also relished the commentary vibe of the sport. The lingo...the culture...the heart of moto.
I don't know of any one specific mag that embodied all aspects of dirt bikes but I do know that "print" guys handed this generation a decent template moving forward. Not sure if anyone is looking at the blueprint though.
RX evolved from a great newspaper (Racing Paper) and came out of the gate so strong. Bi-Monthly, tremendous content, fantastic picture, tons of soul, not too many ads etc. Then they decided to follow the $, go monthly, take on multiple advertisers, water down content, no EJ etc etc and have been going downhill since. Have many moto friends and not one still subscribes. Similar on the web, Racerhead/Observations etc were must clicks at the beginning, not so much anymore. I like Matthes/Keefer/Weedge/JT but there are many better ways to get info even from them. Couple in watching races live or in person, all the great pods (take your pick) and its easy to see why it has gone this way. I think DC had the best of intentions starting out, but like MXSports its all about $$$$ vs content.
MXA/Dirt Bike still has fantastic content in print form after all these years. The only drawback is the delay....but I don't buy/read those magazines for "breaking" news.
Two different forms is right. If one is looking for breaking news, vital posts more often & twitter is instant. Racer X content is more in depth. I enjoy both for their differences.
Even back in the day Cycle News was about as current as it got. Their reports were matter of fact but rarely contained the detail or color that DB/MXA provided.
I also learned as much about the culture from Super Hunky and the Bazzer than anywhere else.
I really liked Dirt Rider for a long while.
Oh yeah....I blame Super Hunky for tainting my formative years and part of my repertoire
Weisel is a moto national treasure.
As for Cycle-News...it was fun to see your name in print from the local races.
