Would like to see lighter bike without it. Photo also shows Yamaha using Hydro clutch now on new Factory bike.

VERY cool. I've been running steering dampers for years. They are amazing. That would be so trick if a version like that came stock.

Sounds good to me.

I think electronic rider aids are the next big step in dirtbikes.

Electronics are getting efficient enough to add things like the EPS they're playing with and electronically controlled suspension valving. So cool to imagine the ability to go from SX to hard enduro suspension settings with a couple button taps and an air pressure change.

I like the technology advancements, but they also come at a cost.

I don't think you need power steering on a dirt bike because of the minimal steering angles, but an electronically controlled steering damper would be a great addition.
They could go quite aggressive with the bike geometry because instability at high speed or headshaking wouldn't be a concern anymore.

Yea seems unnecessary. How pissed will Tomac be if the new Yamaha has a hydraulic clutch 😬

Seems like it would be great for Dakar and high speed stuff. I would think it would take some getting used to on a motocross track, but maybe not?

Going to be a lot more computer science / data science people working at factory teams in 10 years...

Current YZFs are among the last bikes I would consider putting a steering damper on. Hope they dont mess with the geometry at all.

Maybe it could become regenerative (like regenerative braking system) for e-bikes

That's actually what I hope that they don't do. A lot of the reason I like Yamahas is they are great in the fast/rough and fast coming out of corners without drama. Yes, they do trade a bit of cornering sharpness at initial turn-un but I'm ok with it. Plus, once they are set-up, they are pretty much good to leave it go, unlike some other bikes that feel different at every track. So while the technology is cool, I hope it's not because they are going with a more aggressive geometry and this is supposed to compensate. Just my opinion.

It's also an electric-assist steering system, i.e., power steering. As much as I hate adding weight, I've ridden quads with that system and it's a game-changer. Not sure it's necessary on a motorcycle, unless the steering stem is so tight that you need assist to turn the bars. It could be set up that way and might really reduce arm pump.

I imagine the idea for set up is to make the bike easier to steer in tight, slow maneuvers as well as make it more stable in fast, rough terrain. That's what I'd hope for. I'm all for pushing the envelope and seeing what's possible though.

It’s a matter of time before we start seeing a lot more electronics on dirt bikes. Street bikes are flush with them. The advent of E-start has put a battery in (nearly) all modern mx machines, so you can bet these manufacturers are eager to exploit the electrical options they have.

If they would produce a 1974 125 Elsinore id buy that. It sucks to get old!!

I wish I could utilize all this badass technology. Im jealous of you guys and what the future holds for my moto bros.

Why…. Just why? Let’s just keep adding rider aids and take even more skill out of this sport.

Can we at least get cheaper versions at some point from every manufacturer with none of the electrical bs?

I think some of you are missing the point. Some of the best turning bikes are very unstable at speed and twitchy. Some of the most stable bikes at speed don't turn well. Now if you can set up a chassis to turn amazing but the electronic damper will tune out headshake, twitchy feeling in the bar and create stability, you achieve the best of both worlds.
Just saying -

Could of used it on my 05 RM450. Head shake scared the shit out of me more than once. But she turned on a dime!
