I bought a 19 YZ250F with a David Walls Racing engine in it. We sent it back for freshening. Well guess what, UPS has lost it. I put 3k worth of insurance on it but never thought this would actually happen, especially since should have only been a 1 night process.
We shipped it in a cooler that was screwed and gorilla taped like it had an organ in it!!
Anyone had any luck getting anything back from their "investigation?"

UPS lost one of Vital's Contest Dream Bike's engines...

It was found and re-lost like three times over the course of six months. Ultimately, it was never returned to us...the insurance was a nightmare to deal with...and we ended up having to buy a crate engine to finish the bike.

Screw UPS...the amount of nightmares they gave me with my team was nearly unbearable. We gave up on shipping suspension and flew with it 95% of the time. If I could've flown with engines, I would've done that too.

FedEX was better. Not perfect...but I had much better luck for my own uses.

Good luck. I hope someone can answer with some good advice or direction.

UPS have stitched me up a few times similarly, both sending and receiving, although never with an entire engine, so it's no better in the UK.

I really hope you get a miracle and they find it or you get to deal with the one person in their claims department who isn't an asshole, good luck dude.

As most people do when restoring old motocross bikes and buying/selling fairly expensive parts, I've dealt with my fair share of issues with all of the top worldwide delivery companies over the years. It still melts my brain thinking how we are made to pay such extortionate prices for insurance in case they lose it whilst in their possession?

Good luck with the claim through insurance, hope they either find it or pay up the money asap.

UPS lost/stole a pair of WC connection rad braces that I had shipped from the USA to the UK. According to their computer it went to the local depot but then it went missing. I told customer service that a parcel cannot just go missing inside the depot, it must’ve been stolen from within. Chapparell were really cool about it & they sent a new set out to me.

We had UPS lose some of our drive line hardware to a IMSA WeatherTech DPi team last month.

A tracking # was created when we shipped it, shows being picked up by the driver and dropped off at the station, and.... Vanished like a fart in the wind after that.

Overnight delivery and it disappeared when it got to the station.

Meaning it was tracked:

--Showed a label being created with correct delivery address, overnight delivery. UPS confirmed it was a valid tracking #
--Shows being picked up at our shop by the driver
-- Scanned into the station by the driver/station workers

UPS could not explain why it disappeared. We figured it was a inside job and it was gone.

Called UPS 48 hours after the delivery date when the package didn't arrive. The team had the tracking # and was calling UPS also. Since we shipped it we had to make the claim UPS said. We were told wait 2 weeks before we file a claim and wait and see if the package arrives. Nothing arrived after 2 weeks the claim process began. Claim submitted at week 3. 4th week out of the blue the package showed up to the team.

The funny thing is when the original package was lost, we reshipped another set of drive line hardware out a few days after it vanished. The 2nd package arrived overnight, on-time.

When talking to UPS it was like normal procedure for them to lose packages. We said small boxes understandable, but this was a big box. UPS could not explain why it vanished and why the tracking of the package did not register through the whole shipping process.

My suggestion is stay on top of it. Good luck, it's a pain in the back side. Hopefully is show up for you.

I have noticed that UPS reuse the tracking number. So sometimes your tracking number show a totally different shipping route.

On an aviation forum I’m on, UPS managed to “lose” a complete aircraft engine, in a brightly colored plastic shipping crate…he eventually got it back, but it was a cluster. How one “loses” a container several feet in each dimension, and weighing several hundred pounds, is beyond me.

I’m in SW FL, just under Tampa Bay. I ordered a bunch of live aquatic plants from a seller in Miami, overnight shipping as they aren’t shipped in water and time is of the essence. They shipped, then went to Tampa bay, an hour north, then Ocala, 3 hours north, to the panhandle, and then to Macon, GA, only to make it all the way back to my mailbox 5 days later. I got after UPS because it was their fuck up, and in their words “That’s how the route goes”. The seller was cool and shipped USPS and all went smooth after that. When I worked in a motorcycle dealership I pulled my hair out multiple times a week over FedEx and UPS. They are fucking useless.

Had my Rickman Montesa engine redone by a mechanic in Arizona. Thought about going through UPS but at the end of the day I shipped it Old Dominion freight from my
Work. Had no issues and was shipped there and back without drama. Boxed it up in a nice wooden crate and was shipped back in the same

UPS lost a motor we rented from Twisted for Jorgen Talviku for the last national. Luckily they found it a couple days later after the race and the team went back to the UK.

Wow....... What a coincidence!!!!!!! I am currently uploading documents and receipts to UPS as we speak. They lost a set of tires i shipped. Dropped them off at the location. They were scanned in, and thats it. Someone stole those tires.

Here's a direct number to UPS Claims Department. This will save you a half a day of bullshit and being transferred.

I've had more stuff lost in the mail this past year then ever. Checks... etc. Just gone.

About 2 weeks ago a load balancer used in computer networking disappeared. List price of the 1 unit is $185,000. Thank god the mfg shipped it on their fedx account so they are on the hook.

I saw on the news a couple months back that mail theft is exploding here. Criminals are buying mailbox keys and stealing checks directly out of the mailbox.

My experience 99% of the time the label comes off the package or becomes unscanable causing most of the problems.

I had problems opening up a claim on the UPS website. When i would press send it would say" We are unable to process your request at this time. Please contact customer service". I would call customer service and they would say " We are unable to open up a claim for you . You must do it on the website". Anyway, i think you see where this is going.

Here's a direct email address to send your claim and any other requested documents.

Claimsstatus@ups.com

It's not lost....

It's been "repurposed".

All kidding aside...that sucks man, I hope they find it.

When I ship to a customer, I put an AirTag tracker in the box. I include a pre-paid self addressed envelope for them to send it back.

As of a couple years ago, could be more now. $5000 insured value was the starting number for UPS where the driver has to hand off the package to a supervisor at the hub, and all the way down the line to delivery. That package never landed on a conveyor belt. If that package was lost all eyes were on the person that touched it last.

I was about to ask the same thing. I don’t know how well AirTags work, but throwing something like that in the box or attached to whatever you’re shipping has to be an option worth exploring. Every time I drop my suspension off at the shipper, I start to spiral and end up going home and search for used suspension. It’s a crap shoot at this point.

Had a lost FEDEX package last year. Was amazed how you cant talk to a person no matter how many numbers you call. Package was “delivered”. Clearly to the wrong address. I talked to someone in India eventually that was no help. Never got that package. Retailer refunded me luckily.

I remember growing up, you called the UPS or fedex branch it was delivered out of. When the driver got back, they asked them any inquiry you had. That was always the go to for them leaving it at the wrong house. They told you, you go to that house and get it. Easy. Gone are those days!!

There was a time when UPS was pretty dependable. Apparently, those times are long over.

I'm lucky enough to have never had an issue shipping things. I've heard horror stories from every entity though, UPS being the most recent. 2 crates shipped from Michigan to Wisconsin due that week, 2 weeks later 1 arrived, the other was somewhere in the southeast and a month later is still ping ponging its way around the country.

It all depends on your area. UPS is awesome where I’m at. Fed ex sucks since they went to independent contractors for final delivery. On trac is even worse.

Ups is sure not what it use to be. They lost a set of my A Kit suspension and found it 3 or 4 weeks later. The insurance procedure was a nightmare and I made no progress in the period leading up to them later finding it in California. I had sent it 2 day shipping.

UPS and the Teamsters Union are in a contentious contract negotiation. Lots of discussions about going out on strike.

I would avoid them at all costs until the negotiations are done.

For what it’s worth, bigger crated items(LTL) can be shipped through your local fastenal between fastenal locations for a reasonable price. They have locations throughout the US. Decent option if the receiver is willing to travel to the nearest fastenal.

This is a good idea, and much cheaper than paying for insurance, which I’ve heard is almost impossible to collect. An AirTag in a rifle case and my suspension will be as safe as possible.

Is DHL still in business.

On a side note, hell, if Amazon started shipping for hire it’d probably make the trip in a day. They expedite shipping so fast. Eh, it’s a thought
