It’s great to see another manufacturer enter mx/sx. I would love to see as many manufacturers as in the 70’s again.

For sure, also great that it'll create a few more factory rides for deserving riders!

Weird time to enter as you would expect a shift to electric bikes in the next 10-20 years. They should have bought Alta

The question I have is: aluminum frame or steel? After that gets answered, I'm either really interested, or not so much.

I did think similar, they must need to invest millions to build a good bike. Unless they are going to use a KTM/Husky/GasGas base under license? But combustion engines aren't going anywhere anytime soon.

It's going to be a 300lbs off road or dual sport pig.

The 955s ( and others) had aluminium frames.

And, Very different ones to the usual Twin Spar types most think of - look them up.

Triumph bought Spondon, many years ago.

They have Vast experience with many types of chassis design and materials. Spondon, along with Harris ( who were bought by Royal Enfield) were leading chassis designers.

I'm on my rattle box 'phone at the moment, so , am
unable to put pictures up of the various Spondon / Triumph frame designs, but if any are too lazy to go looking, the 800 Tiger pictures put up will give you a hint at the multi tube approach they've used on both Aluminium and Steel frames.

I was looking at their current lineup. It looks like the speed triple line has aluminum frames but the rest are steel frames. Doesnt seem like they are married to a particular material. Hopefully its not a rebranded KTM, hopefully they build a solid and dont try to reinvent the wheel.

Very exciting stuff. Another manufacturer is a very welcome addition. From what I've heard it is an all new ground up design, nothing to do with KTM etc which is great news, and supposedly they're far enough along in the process that they've had RC testing it on a SX track already!

If that is the case, their marketing concept is weird. You make a big announcement and people are waiting..... for a tidbit.

It’ll be based on the KTM.

Triumph is still a family owned company, without connections to KTM. The only connection you can find is that Triumphs' bikes get sold in Asia by the distributors of Bajaj Auto. Bajaj Auto has minority shares in KTM (about 30%). There are rules about "passing patented designs" around, if you are friends or not.

For an brand as Triumph you would think about Superbike, because then they can compete in the Isle of Man TT (and other high profile British Road Races), British Superbike, AMA Superbike, World Superbike, ... It also fits their Moto2 program they are running at the moment. Or something as AMA Flat Track, the crowd in the stands at those races are almost all bikers themselves so they are the crowd you wanna get to your dealers. And battling between Harley, Indian and Yamaha could/would be interesting promotion wise...

But they chose to create a dirt bike...

So they have a bike that RC is testing (probably not) and won't show a glimpse? The strategy to make an announcement and then wait months for a reveal leaves open the opportunity for much conjecture (as we have seen). There was about 5 threads on here that turned into mockery. Like I said, weird marketing.
