He doesn't come within 25 pts of the Championship lead. You heard it here first!

What did everyone expect him to say? "My Championship is over after one round!" He'll collect his 20-22 pts per round and hope the leaders have misfortune. Same way he won all his Championships.

Believe me, I wanted Chad to win the title last year, and I was pulling hard for him this year; but this DNF drastically squanders his odds. Don't get me wrong, this is the right attitude to have in his situation, and anything is possible, but he's going to need more than the right attitude. More importantly, he's going to need more raw speed than ever before. He must win at least 6 races to break even with this A1 DNF.

And he shouldnt feel it is over. As bad as a start to the series he had, he must be the most consistent guy to ever race SX. A few of the top guys have a reputation for the odd crash, so they will have a bad night too, guaranteed. Better to have a DNF this early when there is still time to make the points back, just ask James.

what if stroupe takes out stewart on the start next week and stewart's chain breaks, or wheel, or whatever. its been said before, they race for a reason. sure the odds are against him but we've seen some crazy stuff happen. look at reardon's crash! who knows. all i hope is that he is up to speed and rv's wrist heals (will it ever?) and see the top 5 close in speed.

They don't bring spare stuff like that into the paddock and it is against the rules to go back to the pits, change a part and return to the race.

What about Dungey and Villopoto? Those guys can beat up on reed as well, which means those guys all pretty much have to DNF as well.
Either that or reed has to win about 10-12 races for the rest of the season, and we know that wont happen.

How long does it take an SX mech to change for a front wheel? They were running 1minute +/- laps. That is a lot of time to make up to get into top 10.

If anything Dungey an Villopoto can help Reed. A bad start from Stewart and a good start from Reed will make it that much harder for Stewart. I still think Reed is faster then the other two

Yes it is, but so many guys in the main pull off totally and go back to the pits and/or just cruise around until the checkers. So if he had pushed for the whole time, he may have been able to get close. Doesn't really matter though...they didn't have a wheel to put on anyways.

Somebody mentioned in another thread that they don't allow sets of wheels in the pit areas in SX , because there isn't enough room , or something like that. I could swear , that i have seen wheel changes go on in SX! I know i've seen it a million times in the nationals. I'm wondering if it would of been allowed to have a mechanic run out to the rig and get one? I'm sure it would of been ok , as long as the bike didn't leave the paddock area. He may of been able to salvage a few more points and a couple spots.......but who knows , he would of been probably 5-6 laps down.

It's the first race it's probably the best place to have this horrible situation. Didn't James win it last year..didn't Bradshaw win like 11 races and have a 26 point lead at one point and still loose to Stanton? As a racer he's got the right attitiude and maybe even less pressure because he has a dnf to fall back on in a way... Good for him what we all don't want is a Chad Reed that knows he can't win a SX championship so he starts focussing his attention on say that rally car...I hope it awakens a hunger or a beast we haven't seen in a while

Bottom line is that Reed needs to work on his starts. He won't win races by being mid pack at the first turn. He won't reel in JS and RD, unless they crash each other in the heat of battle.
