This is a topic we all think about at one point or another... We all know that guy. Share your experiences of that one guy you know who wants people to know he rides. I'll share more experiences once the thread goes on.

This was sparked by a page I visited on Instagram, just read the bio....

I don't really mind what other people do.

But it is funny that when I meet people I usually leave out the fact that I race dirt bikes. If you find that out its because I get to know you more or my friend told you. I don't want motocross to be the only thing people think they can talk to me about...

I have close friends that tell me years after meeting them, "I didn't know you race dirtbikes". Usually it's my friends that tell others about my racing. Sometimes I wish they didn't because everybody has that story about their quad or snowmobile that you couldn't care less about.

I have 2 sets of friends, as I would assume most do. It is really annoying when one of the non-moto ones finds out and goes through a "launched it" or "people were watching" story.

The average hardcore non pro motocross rider is on the track less than 4hrs per week or 2% of their time. (12 20minute motos per week). Anything less is the definition of poser in my book.

Haha I'm a poser then. Been on a motorcycle since I was 3 years old. Started racing at 7. Am now 28 and don't ride nearly as much due to a kid, marriage, job etc. But still love watching, following, and riding as much as I can.

Posers are the life blood of this sport. They buy far more product than those who race. The industry would die without posers.

You must only be a fan then since you are here also. I see in another thread that you only get your info from Pulp and that Matthes saved you over $2000 this year. I figured somebody as hardcore as yourself, riding over 12 20 min. motos a week and all, would be in touch with the industry directly and get everything for free from your bitchin sponsors.

Do any of you guys wear your jersey when you go watch a SX live? That seems like the definitive 'poser'.

I'm with you guys that don't bring it up when meeting new people, especially women. Being a decent racer is a lot like being rich. It's attractive, but I'd rather people like me for other reasons, or not like me at all.

Calling someone a poser is pretty lame taste in my opinion. I used to think I was above people too, but turns out there are some much cooler people in the sport that don't race than do. Believe it or not, it's the elitist "I'm better than you" dorks that drove me away from hanging out at the track. Flame away bros

I understand what you're saying, and I respect that. But I feel it's lame when anyone try's to act like something they are not, you know what I'm saying?
