All tools are hammers, except for screwdrivers, those are pry-bars.

my hammer is aptly name "The Negotiator". If it doesn't quite line up.. The Negotiator should do the trick.

Personally, I like the old snap on magnetic trays. They are getting hard to find but I think that there are still some new ones on Ebay. The only bummer is that since they are scarce, I had to put some stuff in holders that were made for other sets but it works. If you like the socket rails, I would go with the craftsman plastic versions. The have a ball and spring like a ratchet that holds the sockets in place. Plus they are pretty cheap. That is one holding the spark plug sockets.

If you have a deep drawer for your pliers, I would go with a rack like the one that I use for my crimpers and snap ring pliers. It saves a bunch of space.

I don't have any pics right now but I bought some ridgid insulation (1/2") and cut it to fit in my drawers. I then laid the tools out on it and traced them out. I used a Dremel to cut out the opening so I have a perfect fit. I then painted the insulation black. I didn't cut right through but you could. This is great for knowing when a wrench or something is missing and it keeps everything in place. Some guys use ply wood but that is much more work.

You can by foam kits on the web but they're expensive. Check out www.garagejournal.com. The site is great.

Thats 45 years of accumulating tools and that is just one of my tool boxes. I don't think I have ever even bought a set of vice grips
I spent way to much money on snap on and Mac tools in the past now I stick to craftsman, kobalt , husky etc. Tools are a sickness and I didnt even post pics of my special tools , calipers, spoke torque wrenches , etc. Blush

That's a FANTASTIC idea! Cheap, super effective, and easy. Thanks for the idea.

And sheriff, I really dig your garage set up. Thanks for sharing.

I have 4 rollaway tool boxes.... plus woodworking tools, plumbing, electrical.........love my tools. I've learned to stay away from the Mac and the Snapon trucks! All are reasonably organized...lostboy you win!

I was raised on a dairy farm and learned out to repair everything and anything.

I bought these http://www.harborfreight.com/3-pc-metric-socket-trayorganizer-68102.html they are not flimsy and the numbers are easy to read. I'm sure I've sprayed them with brake cleaner more than once and the numbers haven't disappeared.

These http://www.matcotools.com/catalog/product/WRR15/STANDARD-WRENCH-RACKS/ kick ass. Had to trim the foam a bit for my wrenches 8mm and smaller.

I also screwed some magnetic bars to my toolbox lid to hold stuff I used frequently used like a tire chuck and other items I didn't want to put in a drawer that I had to open every time.

Great pics Sheriff. Now I don't need to trudge through 2 feet of snow to my shop for pics. That's exactly what I was talking about. They sell kits on ebay but are pricey. Sheriff's route would be substantially cheaper. I used the Rigid insulation because an exacto knife cut well but the Dremmel was perfect for contours so it looks like it was fitted. I gave this a lot of thought and even considered mixing up some Ballistic gel, wrapping my tools in plastic and pouring the gel into the drawer to set around the tools. Thankfully commonsense prevailed. The internet option are nice because they use a yellow under pad show it shows up great which tools are missing. That's the biggest advantage of this. It took an afternoon to do a few drawers but was worth every second, especially for the wrenches and the pliers to see what was missing.

I should make one caution about the ridgid insulation route. After making the cutouts I sprayed the foam with a spray bomb of cheap bed liner to give it a black texture. It reacted with the foam, dissolved it slightly and when it dried it caused a very light curl in the foam. Still looks very good though. A guess a second advantage would be that in a mobile box you could put a second solid removable piece on to to keep the tools from popping out but this shouldn't really be an issue if the tools are set low enough.
