How's this going to go? Does he hang on or does Sexton or Cooper steal it from him?

Wont know till race day.

If he doesnt think hes capable then he wouldnt be racing.

Then again, a 10% drop in his performance is still on sexton and coopers level. And whos to say they dont have issues themselves. Forkner is too good for the field to not try

Go listen to AC talk about it at the end of the Winner’s Circle interview from Denver. He’s a man with experience.

When I was 16 I raced 2 weeks after a torn ACL.

It wasn't normal but as long as I didn't crash or the bike didn't swap side to side terribly it was fine.

Didn't hurt it bad again or "pop out" until someone T boned me and threw me off the bike 6 months later.

Mind you, I was racing 125C at local tracks, not supercross tracks with whoops and huge triples lol.

I hope he wins it!

Well there is a reason why he was hitting the ground every race. Others were maybe a tad slower, but in control.
that's why race series are formed and not one off who wins the race day stuff.

Everyone wants a "close series" well here it is.

One rider went fast and faster and then crashed.

another went a little more reserved and is in the hunt.

the two have raced each other since mini bikes.

going to be cool to see who wins. I know my choice.

I hope he manages to win it. I know crashing is part of racing and the fastest guy doesn't always win but to dominate the way he has only to lose it to injury would suck to see. He clearly put the work in.

I see somebody racing through it for a short time. Now that being said Forkner is young and I'm not sure he has the mind set to ride through the pain. Good luck to the young man as he was on cruise before the injury.

I would prefer to see the best rider win the title, so I hope Forkner can somehow do it. I think it's a long shot based on what I'm seeing, but I'm still rooting for him to swing it.

I have experience with deep bone bruises, but not at the knee.... Anybody have one of those? Can you get a shot to eliminate the pain? Would a pain shot even be legal?

He’s done so well up until that practice crash in Nashville. I’d hate for him to lose it all. Hope he can fight through the pain and be a champ in the end

From my experience this is not something you race through, or tough out. You either do everything perfect and you don't tweak it again, or you do. If you don't there is no significant pain, but if you do re stress it, you drop like a wounded animal. I tried racing 6 weeks after an ACL blowout. The doc asked me if I wanted to race again, and of course I said yes. He said ok as soon as the swelling goes away, your good to go. Just buy a brace, but the one he told me to get was a neoprene deal, with some small steel bars in it. Maybe he thought motocross was like volleyball or something? I will never know but I followed his advice. I made it all through practice and 3 laps of first moto. I landed only a bit off from a jump going to the down side of a whoop, just a little side kick...and Bam, it felt like a sniper shot me right in the knee. I don't remember how I actually did it but I went limp, cut the throttle and slowly tipped myself down to the ground while staying on the bike. It was a sand track at least.
It was at least if not worse pain than the original injury. This was before everyone used custom knee braces but I still feel I should have known better. Oh well, it was first and only major injury and I didn't know any better. live and learn.

He will no doubt have the most supportive knee brace known to man for these last 2 races, so I don't know. It could be fine and he wins, or he gets out of shape and zaps it again. I guess there will be no further damage, just the experience of the same pain as the first time. It is just pain after all, but holy bleep does it hurt if it goes on you.

Trying to ride after knee injuries was pretty similar for me. Any lateral pressure brings the injury right back to unbearable. With or without surgery it needs months to heal, not weeks. A foot dab in a corner or a cased jump and it's all over.

I doubt he will be full speed either even if he can ride. Of course, we don't know how bad it is but based on how he looked it must be significant.

Probably against Mitch's wishes; he'll probably try like hell to race. Pain shots, rehab, whatever...he wants that championship. Granted, he'll have a vacation this summer; but he's gonna charge or wad himself into the ground for his first SX title.

A 10% drop in his performance would be about 5 seconds a lap. He’s not 5 seconds a lap quicker than Sexton and Cooper. The difference between him and Sexton/Cooper is almost nothing. It looks much bigger at the end of 15 minutes than it is in reality. If he can only ride to 90% of his ability, he has no chance at beating either one of them (assuming Sexton and Cooper have no issues).

I believe he’s only up by 3? If that’s correct and he gets one 2nd to Sexton, he’s tied for the lead. If he and Sexton go 3-2 respectively for the last 2 rounds, he still loses. He needs a lot of help if he’s only at 90% IMO.

Yep, that was a good interview. AC gave a lot of info in a short amount of time. Sounds like Austin could use some patience. Hopefully he can soldier on. Interesting how Cianciarulo mentioned ACL may be rideable after 3 weeks. He’s certainly had his fair share.

I don't have any experience with knee injuries, but I give the kid credit for not giving up. Regardless of how it shakes out.

My prediction:

Does his thing and gets his title.
Then...
Gets the knee fixed and misses the outdoor races.

I have had partial tears a couple of times and while 'maybe' I could ride in three weeks there was no way I could be anywhere near full speed. Any wrong jab of the leg can end it.

But who knows what magical medical treatments they may have now.

If I were to bet though, I would say he won't be able to stay with Chase and Cooper.

BINGO

If he can holeshot and win in NJ, it will be a lot easier come Vegas. Sexton may only be good for a 3rd there behind AC and Ferrandis which will eliminate the point gap advantage of finishing first with your opponent numerous spots behind.

He has to try, i mean, by going for the op now means he is screwed for SX and the out doors. Try get the SX championship and then sit out the outdoors.

Right choice to give it a go and I sure as hell hope he pulls it off.
