DC ** ??...u need to help fix a fan problem...

I went to Dilla and the Wick....I stood in the same general area I always do and this year at the Wick just opposite of the top of the start fans had an EZ-up tied in the corner of the fenced in area...this blocked atleast 20-30 standing spots plus the surrounding people can't view because it's suck a view blocker. At Dilla it was pretty horrendous...half of the far hill where the pine trees are was filled with EZ -UPS....you literally couldn't see the whole rhythm section because there were so many of them. I thought they weren't allowed? I counted 10 in one spot...it sux as a fan...

I argee.....

At Southwick we saw a bunch of people with w 10x10 ez-up zip tied to the fence....caution tape on all 3 other sides.
Waste of space and blocks everyones view for 20-30ft behind it.

I feel free to stand under them, on blankets etc. I have never seen where admission entitles me to a 10x10 space.

You should see Freestone. They line the entire outside of the track. Pretty lame really.

At Millville this year, a group of total newbies lashed TWO EZ-ups to the fence, along the whoop entrance fence.
Easily blocked 30-40 casual views from the adjacent viewing area, not counting 20-30 folks that would have stood there along the fence.I see this as something that doesn't occur very often, but needs to be addressed.

Freestone IS outa hand, as you said 'disbanded'.

Yeah, Freestone has gotten worse every year it seems. They should not be allowed at all!

EZ ups really have no place at a national. Neither do econo-lounge lawn chars with 10' umbrellas attached to the arm.

I didn't go this year to Washougal.....but I know exactly what you guys are talking about. It's been a few years since I have seen people like " Parts unlimited" and so forth do this........but they had in the past......with some 50' long X 10' tall canopy......and it really sucked.

Personally.......if they are going to allow those things into the event , it should be a rule to keep them away from the fence line. Wish they would ban them all together......but a lot of tracks don't have the shaded areas like Washougal does........and people need shade. Hopefully Davey chimes in here. And good topic TPTurbo.

I will pass it on to the NPG and everyone here at MX Sports. I have seen the problem at races too but it's not really my place to police E-Z Ups at other folks' tracks...

I really wasn't bothered by it, but I did see the irony in it at Texas.

Thanks DC. Washougal is my only national for the year, and it's hard enough to see amongst the (beautiful) trees. EZ Ups and other tents don't help.

Red Bud had this SAME bullshit. We just stood up throughout the whole motos (that didn't suck) and then were promptly yelled at to sit down by someone under a big ass awning. I was pretty drunk and gave the usual, "RED BUDDD! GET PUMPED! COME ON!!!" and she STFU.

....you gotta sandwhich in that coooler lady?

My $.02
Let them put EZ ups up, but keep them at least 50 feet from any fence outlying the track so people can see.

Agree with this.. I'd put tents and umbrellas along the furthest viewing edge of the track -- on the top of a hill looking down.

Well, that sign *is* mounted on a gate...

This ain't a new problem. I remember people blocking out spectating areas back at the Hang Ten USGP at Carlsbad.

At Texas you were allowed to have easy ups around the outside perimeter, so we marked our spot at about 8am and owned it for the day. It was the inside of the track (where this entrance was) that EZups weren't permitted but as Texans usually do- (or can't read) (see sarcasm) some stretched the rules. But technically there were'nt any tents on that gateSmile

A Constructive thread with actual useful information about improving the Spectator's Conditions at a National?

Damn, that's nice.

Having areas "assigned" for Easy-Ups would be a good idea.

The Problem is...SOMEONE"s gonna Bitch when they give the Easy-Ups a specific Hillside that certain people think SHOULDN'T be assigned to the Easy-Ups.

From Hangtown to Unadilla I can see the need for them...especially those families with little ones.

This should be easy enough to fix.

Good luck Davey!

Do you think Texans are the only people that stretch the rules LOL? I always get a kick how people from Texas act like everyone else is just different because they arent from "TEXAS". I sometimes wonder if they have not ever been anywhere else lol....

I agree that the ez ups around the entire track are complete BS. I like to take and watch from a different location for each moto. And I am usually not to polite when some mini mom or drunk ass dad tells me that I cant stand under or near the tent. Uh I am pretty sure that I paid the exact same gate fee that you did. I am just not rude enough to think that I am more important than every other person that paid to get into the place. Unless I am in Texas that is :-)

I disagree. They are going to block people's view no matter what and they just take up too much space. That's just MHO.

Back in the day it was scaffolding....you want to talk about blocking the view! I do agree that something needs to be done to either limit the amount of them or the area they take up. Better yet limit the area and charge extra!

I was at Budds one year and they made me take down my ez-up. That was in 2004 and I haven't brought one to a national since then. However the last two years at Budds I keep seeing more and more pop up.

That was the major reason I stayed home this year. Last year I couldn't see jack squat because of all of the e z ups. That track is already not a very spectator friendly place and I figured I would at least be able to see the race on TV as opposed to 50 ft. sections of the track at a time.

Totally agree... at Red Bud it was so freaking hot that now way should they be outlawed... If someone had theirs right up against the fence I would walk right up and stand under it.

I know I might be in the minority in this thread DC but I think there is a place for them at the Nationals when we have scorching hot days. Maybe a buffer zone from the fence and or a centralized area in the infield but outlawing them is not the right move IMHO.

Mike, no way anyone would outlaw them! But a buffer zone from the fences like you mention in crowded areas so they don't block everyone's view sounds like a good idea....

At Lorett'a somebody duct taped one to the bleachers and it was there all week.

What is the proper protocol if the bleachers are pretty full and you sit under their awning and then the "awners" (or "ez uppers") come along?

If you give them an area to set them up in the spectator area and the wind comes up, it is going to get pretty ugly. I have seen those things go through a windshield in MX pits. Since the price has come down so much (

I looked at all the photos passed on to me from Paul Buckley , This was the only Pop-up we saw our security was supposed to hav all removed i gueess i will have to pass this photo on to them . We do not allow people to bring them into the event, As you can see in the photo alot of people could not veiw the race from there because of the banners on the fence up so high..
