Wanted to run this by the Pro Vitalmx all knowing members.
Heard a rumor today that Cooper Webb broke the production bike rule.
Used a 350 frame and a 450 motor.

I seriously doubt that. No way KTM is stupid enough to do that.

The 450 engine won’t bolt into the 350 chassis. The frame Cooper uses is modified but it’s within the rules.

Crossmember added in the front of the cradle and I’ve heard something else on the frame might be braced. Adding material is within the rules, taking it away isn’t though.

Example from Baggett’s frame.

Also... why would Webb use an engine that has 0 factory equipment experience. The 250,450 have years and years of factory race bike r&d, the 350 has none. That wouldnt be a good idea as theyd be starting from square one. Also isnt it legal anyways to use less displacement or do you mean using an engine in a bike it doesnt come in? Why if the 350 is legal wouldnt he just use one?

That’s not what the OP was referring to. He was stating they were using the 450 engine in the 250/350 frame.

I don’t believe the supposed rumor is true. It honestly doesn’t make sense.

Isn’t the geometry of the 450 and the 350 the same anyways?

On the gusset under the header, what did that help with the frame? Did it just make it stiffer or did it help with the twisting of the front end giving it a better feel and front bite?

My guess would be increased torsional rigidity.

Correct that would be in violation of the production rules. Not a production package motor and frame.

Wouldn't it be within the rules anyway? Any privateer could go grab a 350 frame with their Feld lime bonus and run the same set up.
