Bagget does not need to move up to take 4 or 6 or 8. He earned 12 as a career number last year but since he just won a national championship he is elligible to take a single digit # if he wants to. Or he can keep 12 if he wants.

Seriously? I know it's RC and all but the dude retired in 2007. They even shelved it for a couple years out of respect to the GOAT, good enough. You really think Blake or whoever should go and ask RC, "golly gee you're the greatest and all but can I use the number 4 now?"

Yeah honestly I thought about it and I said to myself I bet RV talked to MC when he was gonna run the 2. I guess it was the way it was worded in his post, asking if it was cool. Yeah I'm sure he would talk to RC but it's not like Ricky is gonna say, no you can't run the 4. But yeah you're right

I don't think it should be retired imo. There are not enough low numbers to be retiring any of them.

I like BB8. I suppose if you have the choice you picking the lowest number would be best.

RC ran 4 but he also ran other numbers in his career too. Admittedly he is most identifiable by the number "4". Personally though I think it's a total irrelevance. There are other things worth getting sentimental or upset over, but in this case it's just a number. It doesn't really mean anything if another rider uses 4 and it doesn't take away from what Ricky achieved. Not that Ricky would care but the idea that a rider should have to ask first as to not upset some of the fans, is beyond lame imo.

I'm not too keen on it either,I like the way it brings some guys out of retirement but there's 40 of the gate so leave them for how they finished the year before,outside that you can keep a number.I think he should be entitled to take any number that's free right now in this system though,call RC yes,but I think he will leave it anyway.

I am on the fence about retiring the #4. I mean anyone in the MX community sees the 4, they think about carmichael. Like someone else said, it would probably be better not to pick 4 because you WILL be living in that shadow. Also it would be a nice sign of respect to Carmichael if he talked to him about it. It is not something that he HAS to do or even SHOULD do, but that is what respect is about. Doing something out of reverance for another. Nothing wrong with that.
