Any change is measurable, sure. But if that measurement of deflection comes out to be tens of thousands times smaller than the deflection in the rest of the motorcycle, is it reasonable to think that a rider can feel it? What if you know that you've made changes to a triple clamp design that had 100x or more the difference than the above mentioned change, AND that it was tested by multiple top professional riders who did not notice any change in feel. Wouldn't it be safe to assume the first mentioned change, the one many order of magnitudes smaller...

Well, unlike most all other companies in the moto space, we're hardly hiding it. Have a look at our blog posts or social media to see many examples of the calculations, analysis, and physical testing we do to validate product performance. Test riders are incredibly valuable, as all the calculations in the world can only go so far. However, test riders, and track testing in general, are full of faults and uncontrolled variables. Gathering test rider feedback, while understanding those faults, AND understanding the engineering calculations behind a design are the keys to going faster. Simply listening to rider feedback...

Exactly, psychological effects are strong. Basically, if it can't be measured, then it can't be felt. There's no way around that. And if it's measured to be REALLY small, then the change in feel will also be REALLY small. Often times, it's so small that the change is overwhelmed by everything else that's flexing on the bike. Back to back testing of the changes is great. But the time delay between tests is enough to change the tire pressure 0.25 psi, which will make a 100x more of a difference in feel than adding a small chamfer on the triple...

Adding a groove internally will indeed change the "flex characteristics", however, that change is so incredibly small, there's no way it can be felt by even the most elite riders. If they were really going for a change in feel by adding the groove, they would put it on the outside, NOT the inside. The riders haven't found some magical change that mystifies engineers. The mind is a powerful thing, and if a rider knows that there's a "change", they will most certainly feel it, whether it actually changed anything or not.

Once the bolts are torqued down, the part of the clamp that surrounds the fork tube is essentially one piece with the fork tube. The profile of the clamp there will affect the overall stiffness of the fork tube, but it won’t affect the overall stiffness of the clamps much at all. It’s important to differentiate between the two as there will be two different effects to the ride and handling. Changes in the stiffness of the fork tube can indeed be very noticeable, as it can reduce the bushing binding if done correctly. In all cases, a fully split...

I’m afraid you have me confused with someone who knows what they’re talking about. I like to pretend, but Billy at Luxon is the real deal.

Yamaha is using custom ground eccentric bearings and races too. It takes a smaller lower stem diameter, with just a modified aluminum stem. But if the rider doesn't like the offset races, it makes more sense to stick with the stock setup. The titanium stem is heavier than aluminum.

That groove won't do much of anything for flex, it's weight removal only. Arguably, it helps isolate the torque of each bolt a tiny amount, but so long as it's not complely split, it won't do a very good job of that. Note that they don't complete it all the way around to keep water and dirt out of the groove.

Great catch, mxav8r. Someone will get their ass chewed-out for posting that video. For sure there is a pupose for the groove, it's for flex.

Bit of an idiot for taking a shot at Matthes. What's the point? You're going to hook your comeback wagon to Gypsy?

Part publicity stunt, part scare tactic. “Ride illegally on the streets and this is what will happen to your bike”. Because, you know, “ride illegally on the streets and we’ll lock you up” would be way too harsh.
