Dump the forks, slap a complete late-model front end on there. You'll upgrade the forks, brake, and bar position in one swoop. All Balls makes the conversion bearings. The 97 shock is a modern design, my friend that owns a suspension shop used a late-model YZ piston and Gold Valves in a 97 shock to make my rear suspension work really well.

if youve got a stock cylinder, have it bored to .040". they have "scallops" for decompression. once you bore it, they run much smoother. ive ridden and owned several. my favorite for moto was stock porting with bore job. some people port them to run smoother/easier. i never rode a flywheel weight on the dirt but it must help. i have one on my ice bike and it helped a ton, and it did seem to brake/slow down different.

This is the most perpetuated myth I've seen by people who have never ridden one. They're gentle giants and are quite honestly pretty darn easy to ride, just keep the bike a gear high and throw a flywheel weight on it to smooth the motor out a bit. I know plenty of older guys who trial ride them every weekend, and with proper technique they aren't difficult to master.

There were a few passes in that corner throughout the night where the outside rider had to break late and swerve and the inside rider was even closer. Barcia cut to the very bottom and IMO Jason had plenty of time to adjust had he been looking further ahead than his fender.
