Sounds like Kawi is restructuring the team some so I think everything has been true at certain points. He absolutely wanted to leave, had informal talks with other teams (PRMX, Yamaha, HEP/Suz/Tedder maybe), Kawi in the meantime got Malc as insurance and then started to implement changes to satisfy Chase (which take a while to get done in the corporate world) and in that time Chase realized how limited his options are, and that Kawi is actually changing his team, mechanic etc and they have a new bike, so his latest set of data to make a decision on tells...

The race sexton went to was basically in his hometown, minutes away from where he lived and had a track in his yard before moving to florida. I promise you his sponsors didn't care one way or the other if he was there. The winning 2 races thing as being evidence that the bike is fine is hilarious to me. Jett won 4 outdoors this year, does that mean everything was fine? Both achieved well below their ceiling and it is silly not to consider the causes of that.

I think at this point in his career that’s the exact reason you hire a guy like Malcolm, right? He is experienced and has had success on lots of brands, the guy has been around the block and elevated every program he has been a part of. Hopefully he helps Chase.

My theory is similar - in 2022 he gave Tomac all he could handle, nearly won the title, then won a bunch of SX races in ‘23, won the title (maybe a bit fortuitously but nonetheless showed the speed). Probably believed he was on a trajectory to clean up for the next 4-5 years. Along comes Jett and in ‘23 MX he can barely show him a wheel.
