The Stark is still being touted as the best MX bike ever to be built. It has to be judged by the highest standards, even hypothetically. To me, that means pro speed on a 110 degree day, at 100% humidity, 30 minutes plus 2 and a sight lap. and a red flag restart: so in round figures, 40 minutes. Oh, and a victory burnout and a two up ride back to the truck

Yeah, that's a fair test but that is intermittent use- only a small percentage of the time is at full power, full load. Without detail we don't have about the limiting, it's just anecdotal, hearsay, not engineering fact.

The bottom line for Pit, and KTM is the same conundrum that Stark is probably facing. With current best battery technology if they make a bike that can do a 30 plus 2 with a sight lap and a red flag restart it will be so heavy and bulky it will not be competitive, and so expensive it will not be saleable. Don't take this personally, but that's a pretty flippant statement about someone who is arguably leading the best combined on/offroad motorcycle company on earth with respect to pushing the technological edge. The KTM group has some of the best talent on earth for pushing motorcycle development (and the powerplant technology that propels them). Like I've said previously, I hope Stark can back up their claims - I have at least 6 months of other customers' deliveries and reviews to scour over before I pull the trigger on mine. Have you seen, on RacerX there is a new interview about KTMs new HQ, much of the last part of the article is about their view on electric. It doesn't paint a good picture on E-dirtbikes, he basically says, they won't last 30min+2. Now, is that because KTM ow lagging behind or...? I've said previously that I have one on order, and I hope they are amazing. However....until they're in the wild, with real-world owners putting them through the ringer, I reserve a healthy level of skepticism as to the actual battery life.

If, or until, we have Starks to measure, it is purely hypothetical what any aspect of their performance is. It's predicting the future: very hard. In other EV performance applications though, the current draw rate required by a 60 hp motor, let alone 80 HP, from a 6kWh air cooled battery will have it overheated, and limited, in a few seconds.

Yes, 'claimed' is the operative word on every single aspect of the hypothetical Stark.

For a start no one, anywhere, is immersion cooling li-ion cells with water. Battery cases are cooled with glycol/water conventional coolant yes but cells need highly specialised, dielectric fluids for flooded cooling. Corrosion, conductivity 101 reasons. Because no Stark bikes exist in the wild for evaluation nobody really knows how good or bad they may be with regards to heat control. The point is that the temperature delta of a battery that needs to be kept at 50C for safety and efficiency is a lot less in 40 degree ambient conditions than an ICE bike that is running at 100C...

Why not reduce theoretical run times 10 or 20%? It makes more sense to do that. The proposed Stark has a much more powerful motor and is bigger and heavier with the same nominal 6 kWh.

From what I've been able to find from various sources, a typical ICE car takes ~300 gal to extinguish. Tests from fire departments show 6000 - 8000 gal for EV's, with some fires requiring up to 40,000 gal to fully extinguish. Hopefully fires are exceedingly rare, because full blown battery fires are no joke...

Are tracks going to have a way of dealing with fires if one of these battery packs combust from overheating/impact? From the looks of things even fire departments can't handle Tesla fires. How the "F" is a private track going to handle a lithium fire?
