Good, then please tell me why the cooling concept of the Varg is insufficient in your opinion? Where would be the benefit to use a water cooling system since the Varg‘s cells are directly connected to the battery housing that sits nicely in the oncoming air flow?

If, or until, we have Starks to measure, it is purely hypothetical what any aspect of their performance is. It's predicting the future: very hard.

In other EV performance applications though, the current draw rate required by a 60 hp motor, let alone 80 HP, from a 6kWh air cooled battery will have it overheated, and limited, in a few seconds.

In seconds.. how did even the Alta manage 10-15 min at full tilt then?

Whose Alta has been run at full tilt, 100% duty, for 15 minutes?

Show us the evidence?

Power attenuation to make a moto/race distance will be an aspect of electric racing we haven't seen with gas bikes in 40 years. It's just something different that will be dealt with.

Ryan, thanks for posting the interview. Excellent information there and good questions asked. Holy crap -  plastic tubes? These dudes are flat-out killing it in terms of original thinking. They make the rest of the industry look tired, lazy, and complacent by comparison. Anton Wass appears quite certain that he's got a game-changing marvel of a motocross bike on his hands. I wasn't exactly sure what his take was on racing against 450s, as opposed to simply racing against other electric bikes, but he's crystal-clear in speaking his mind: he wants the opportunity to lop the head off the King by beating them ALL, and he wants it sooner rather than later. They should hire DeCoster as their race team manager, then this place would REALLY melt down! Makes me chuckle at the thought.

Message to the "Basket Of Ignorables": now might be an excellent time to start planning for your future, as your opportunity to fritter away your life by conjuring up ever more farcical ways to prove that this bike is nothing more than a well-crafted mirage created by clever-thinking grifters juuuuust might be coming to an end.

Kyle978 talked about his and Josh Hills experience with the Alta in this thread and said that the battery ran hot after a 10-12 min moto. Keefer said it too. Are those guys not fast enough or put not enough load on the bike? What are you talking about?

Yeah, that's a fair test but that is intermittent use- only a small percentage of the time is at full power, full load.

Without detail we don't have about the limiting, it's just anecdotal, hearsay, not engineering fact.

You don’t get it?  He’s smarter and more clever than everyone else, but spends all of his days sharing his “wisdom” on Vital

did he ever think that by designing the bike at 80 hp that no one could ride it there, but simply riding it at something less than that will preserve the battery and keep it from over heating.  You know like they do most everything mechanical, over engineer it so it lasts for normal use.

What makes him the expert on E bikes?

Technology moves too fast to make a statement like that. I never thought I would see ev's with a range of over 300 miles. Let alone an ev truck. Remember when the first ev's wouldn't get 200 miles, some barely 100?

My point is, technology moves at warp speed. I wouldn't bet against e bikes getting longer range.

Just because he's the head of KTM doesn't make him the authority on everything e bike.

Btw, as a snowbird and 66 years old I probably ride as much as you do or more. And I also ride year round.

Congrats

The Stark is still being touted as the best MX bike ever to be built.

It has to be judged by the highest standards, even hypothetically. Wink

To me, that means pro speed on a 110 degree day, at 100% humidity, 30 minutes plus 2 and a sight lap. and a red flag restart: so in round figures, 40 minutes.

Oh, and a victory burnout and a two up ride back to the truckLaughing

Oh, if only a simple test of endurance could be what defines "the best MX bike ever to be built."  It doesn't. For example, how could any bike be "the best MX bike ever to be built" if it can't pass the test of never, ever seizing it's motor on the face of a jump and causing it's hapless rider horrific injury (as recently happened to Brandon Hartranft)? How could it be the best if it can't pass the test of never locking up its tranny a hundred yards from the checkers? How could it be the best if you can't tune its powerplant to whatever curve you desire at whatever time you desire it? How could it be the best if it can't pass the test of being able to be ridden stealthily at a track located in a suburban neighborhood? And lastly, how could it be the best if it can't pass the test of never boiling it's gas on the 110 degree, 100% humidity, 30 plus 2 plus sight lap plus red-flag restart plus victory burnout plus back to the truck ride you referenced in your typically under-thought post? The Varg clears all these hurdles with ease. Therefore: > Varg.

Put that in your pipe and smoke it.

Bring it to a to a track in Houston in June July August September those will be 100+ degree 90% humidity torture tests for it we had triple digits for 3 weeks straight last summer I’m Not saying anything negative abut the Stark I don’t know anything about it. I don’t have a dog in this.  I read one guy said this company and bike has bitch slapped every bike and every manufacturer on its first try. That’s an extremely bold claim. And isn’t the best thing bike none sense no bike is heads and shoulders above any other bike. It’s all personal preference.  And as far as it being so safe. All bikes break period end of story. This one will too and it can still have non manufacturing things happen to it like throwing a chain   Or breaking a chain. I hope you guys that get one this bike is everything you make it out to be and is fun to ride for you because that’s all that matters is you having fun on it.  I’ll be having fun on my  12 CRF 450 and my next new bike a 2024 KTM 300 when they get the mapping leaner.  Enjoy whatever bike you ride guys and gals. That’s why we do it.  Someone will pounce all over my reply because I didn’t bow down to this bike. Personally Stark would probably be able to possibly get more sales if they had a demo day.  I rode an Alta on a demo day, I was less than impressed. They only good thing about them that I see is they will bd good if noise is an issue. I’m a strictly motor cross track rider. Noise isn’t an issue. I ride at Rio Bravo and 3 Palms both are situated in places where noise isn’t an issue. I l love  the sound and smell of 2 strokes. Always will. If I had to be quiet or not ride I guess I’d go E bike. And going to watch a SX or MX national watching a gate of e bikes seems pretty boring to me.

A couple or few things, just in case you're new to this biblical-length thread.

1. Guys who like the Varg don't hate other bikes, it's the other way around. Myself, I have a brand new Heritage Edition Husky 125 in my barn just waiting for the weather to get warmer, and I have a bunch of other bikes too. I love each and every one, though all are far from flawless, and certainly none are what I would consider to be "the best MX bike ever to be built." For me, the one that comes closest to achieving that lofty goal would be my factory Mugen 1985 Honda CR125R. Again - for me.

2. No Varg buyer I know of thinks the Varg will do 100 degree, high humidity, 35-minute motos or all-afternoon romps around Lommel at pro-level speeds, and therefore, none of us are buying it with that intention. Myself, I just want to ride this terrific new bike while enjoying its groundbreaking innovations and considerable positives attributes. Heck, if truth be told, until this thread, I had no idea how many heat-loving, sand-surfing, mud-munching, 45 minutes standing-on-my-head pro-level riders there were out there. Turns out, there's THOUSANDS of them. I mean, who knew?

3. It's not "motor cross," it's "motocross."

Be well.

At this point just deliver the thing already.  I’m still baffled why there aren’t pics of at least 20 of them lined up.  We do now have a few artistic videos of various parts being installed on their Facebook site. Otherwise it’s STILL the 3 or 4 pics of the same 3 or 4 bikes being built from a year ago. When they arrive we can see what it is. I didn’t bother watching the video of when he says that will be since it’s already way beyond what he said delivery date would be just a short time ago.  Cycle News learned nothing from Dirt Rider pre-emptively naming the Cannondale “Bike of the Year”?  Which year???

Dude I've got so much heat for picking that bike😂 It was super fun to ride and definitely stood from everything I rode all year. But you're right, until they're on track it's basically the same case as the Cannondale.

How many employees does Stark have?I would assume need quite a bit on the factory floor assembling, finance, warranty, hr, etc. I assume all those individuals were on the recent tour that the Vital member attended? Once the first bike is delivered how fast will the subsequent units be delivered, that was not answered in the video. Are their models in a warehouse ready to ship, or will each unit be built and shipped 1 by 1? Was the goal to ever be a manufacturer? Or was the goal to develop the prototype and then be purchased by a KTM/Japanese Brand? Usually, the goal of invested start ups is to get acquired or to go public, their funding usually has a limited runway with an exit strategy. I want to see all companies succeed, running a startup is hard, I know, but just don't know if we are being told 100% truth yet. Time will tell.

Whoa slow down there dude. You’re putting stuff on me I didn’t say. All I said was it’s stupid hot in Houston in the summer fact. That’s in response to guys talking about it will run cool no Mayer what. I never said anything about riding it at pro level speeds for 35 minutes. No me. I’m lucky to do 5 laps in that kind of heat. I ride 2 or maybe 3 times and go home.  That’s the problem with these Biblical long threads as you said.   I didn’t trash anyone or anything. Not the Stark nothing.  I’ve never seen one much less ridden one.

I had no idea it’s motocross. No clue thanks for the information.  I was talk texting this. That’s what the phone came up with.  But I like it. Motor cross !!    I’m brand new to the sport. Lol

Aj Cat made a video at Club MX riding his Alta on the MX tracks. I think it went 6 laps.

I want to see all companies succeed, running a startup is hard, I know, but just don't know if we are being told 100% truth yet. Time will tell.

I've always had the theory that their plan all along was to get acquired (sell the technology) before they ever had to sell a bike.  And that is why they had such a premature announcement when they weren’t even close to ready to produce a bike, and why they  went all in on $100 deposits-and not $1000 deposits- (as a proof of concept and to gauge interest level), and why they keep kicking the can down the road for delivery dates, and seem so opaque in all their releases, pictures, etc. etc. (production lines with no tools, empty shelves etc)  They want someone to buy the technology, not sell the bikes on a large scale.  When the pandemic put the breaks on all potential VC acquisitions or a merger with an established manufacturer, they had to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to actually manufacture these bikes and build out a dealer network and that is taking way longer than they thought.

Or they came on the scene with such huge performance promises, and found out they couldn't replicate those promises on a large scale at the price point they thought...and rather than go to market with a much higher sale price, or much lower performance...they are kicking the can down the road on deliver dates trying figure out a solution to that problem (how to keep the price down, and the performance as promised).

Or the delayed delivery dates and vague updates are all part of their tabloid style, smoke and mirrors, marketing campaign to build hype on the bike...

Or they are just naive as to what it takes to get a brand new bike to market, and underestimated everything about the process, so its just taking longer as a result of their ineptness.

Who knows?

How can you guys confidentiality say that about a bike no one can talk about.

If I had customers like you guys I would be a millionaire.

Sorry sir, you will have to wait 2 years for you're home to be built. Don't worry, send me a deposit and it's the greatest home in the universe.

RaceFace is correct about turtlenecks.

Whose Alta has been run at full tilt, 100% duty, for 15 minutes?

Show us the evidence?

All jokes aside. It takes 2 years to build some homes.

Club MX pro track is, according to their website, 2:20-2:40 lap time. Can you do the math?

It will be interesting to see how the plastic tubes that save 2kg will resist pinch flats...

Also interesting was that Bryan placed his deposit 7hrs before the press release....I would like to know how he got the heads up, he must know a few people, good for him.
