KHNC Liked a reply to forum topic Why is McGrath "The King" in the Current Era?

Im glad someone posted this early. I was about to. The SX tracks of the 90's were brutal, especially on a 250. Even the AX tracks and the MX tracks all eventually wanted to copy SX layouts. Some brutal whoops and triples! I raced all of the 90's , into 2001. I hated hearing about fkn hondas and MC winning shit every damn week. But, he was the damn best, no question. Even though i still hate to admit it.

Honestly? Ease of service and simplicity. Springs have come a long way since the desmo was developed in the 60s and 70s, and are winning races every single weekend. Why would you want a brake actuated suspension system ? Or z spokes? Or a genesis 5 valve? If it's good enough to win,it won't be the valve closing method.

Tough to compare young generation to older generations in Moto, F1, NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, etc. McGrath is not only the King of SX, but is close the Man (RDecoster) in staying relevant a long time past retirement, and is still impacting the sport. It is also very special to see McGrath at Mammoth, World Vet, and local races. He is very approachable, easy going and talks with most fans at the track....and most importantly, almost all people have great things to say about him. The Greats are all great!

IF Jett wants to be considered a badass, he probably shouldn't be caught on camera literally crying like a 5 year old who just had a bully take away his basketball.

Well, so I don't offend anyone, I refer to a triple as a "multi-jump" - it's just more inclusive. But a quad is an easy answer - it's simply something that reduces your IQ when you ride it.

That's not actually a viable solution. The current YZ250 has had the same gearbox since 1999, with the exception of a ratio change (different part number) to 2nd gear. The two stroke has a weak gearbox. 3rd gear on the main shaft moves to engage dogs with 3rd and 4th gear... Those gears are prone to failure. The failure is a loose feeling when shifting, false neutrals and jumping out of gear under extreme loads (like jump faces). I replace the entire gearbox in my YZ250s with YZ450F parts from 2006 - 2009. You get the same ratios with four...

Sorry guys that anecdote was first cup of coffee. Place your cylinder head on the table with no cams, now try to open a valve with your thumb on the bucket. That's how much pressure is on that lower rocker, and has to be perfect. The opening clearance is essentially zero. As the valve and seat wear these clearances need...

I had a Ducati tech friend work out of my place for extra cash. There are twice as many shims of multiple types, and he would install a wedge/tool in there and spin the motor with a breaker bar and bang ,parts would fall out! Also, valve "clearances "are set at top and bottom...
